How to import fandom and maybe other stuff from Norway
After Skam I know Norway became rather popular, and while you can take Norwegian courses, it doesn't help much if you can't actually use it (and know from own experience that talking Norwegian online to foreigners feels weird even if you know they understand Norwegian if they introduced themselves in English >////>, here on Tumblr I mostly write in English even to my Norwegian friends as it feels more natural). Some of you might even while not being interested in learning the language would like to import something fun to have something new and exciting in these often same-feeling days. Some of you might even just be after to support your favorite Norwegian artists. So if you are after more than just food on eBay, here ya go.
So, not many Norwegian online shops ships outside Norway as Norwegian shipping prices are pretty steep. So I've looked far and wide, and found 2 (4 if you include a sketchy souvenir shop I saw, but all the books they had were 2 translated Harry Potter books, riveting, and a grocery store so unless you are desperately after some weekly magazine do they not have much, unless you want some snacks, which is understandable). So the two I found are:
- Ivo Caprino
For you puppet/stop motion fans out there. They sell region free DVDs with Caprino's fairy tale inspired movies, and Flåklypa (my personal favorite). The DVDs include both sub and dub. Not much more can be said.
- Bokkilden
I didn't find this one on my own, it was Dina Norlund who found it. They have more than just books, so you can look at them too. But unfortunately the site, like the grocery store is it only available in Norwegian, but fear not! I have translated how to fill it here! After filling the cart:
I ordered a couple of books to some Youtubers I watch to test it, more about that below. They have no place to put state/province I thought (and you can't add it to zip/postal code as it only accepts numbers and one hypen), but the ekstraadresse (extra address) field I put it in there. In there it appeared two places, on top as a C/O, and further below right under the postal/zip code, then I clicked on endre adresse (edit address) and could remove the C/O field while the extra one below remained. Their shipping cost seems to be 200nok no matter what to other countries, just so you are aware.
As always, use a currency calculator when buying from other countries!
For those of you wanting to import something but doesn't want anything in Norwegian (yet), or you @fjordsoncomic fans out there, here are the volumes! In English! (they are in the souvenir section of book stores here)
Other recommendations from me personally:

Siri Pettersen (her first big book came out in English recently yes, so you can read them side by side if you want)
Kjell Aukrust
Jens Bjørneboe
Anne-Cath Vestly
Alf Prøysen
Ole Lund Kirkegård
Fjordson
You’re a puzzle, troublemaker.
I’ve rarely seen you, even in the home shared between us and the other gods. You flutter around a bit like a demented seagull, unpredictable. Granted I haven’t seen many purple seagulls in my short – it’s short compared to you guys, isn’t it – time here.
We might have met once, maybe twice. Never on purpose. I told you my name and you looked at me like a giant wave had crashed down on you, a swirling whirlpool of emotions in those sparkling emerald eyes that dulled the longer you looked at me. You smiled, but it was with gritted teeth.
You said your name as if you expected me to lash out at you. I still don’t know why. I’m dripping with seawater and there’s a rattle in my breathing that I didn’t put there. For hell sakes I’m wearing a wetsuit, bro. I’m not scary.
I’m told that you love to laugh. I’ve never once heard it. I’ve only seen dull emeralds and forced sugar. It doesn’t bother me that you don’t like me, just that I can’t think of a reason why. I’m younger, but so is that sheila you hang out with all the time. I’m not serious or overly responsible like the others, but you never liked them to begin with. So what is it? I can’t fix anything if I don’t know what I broke.
I’ve never asked anyone else. I’ve been too busy. But I still wonder whenever waves are hit by a storm, almost as if the lightning is meant to be a cue to something that should be familiar to me.
Don’t keep this secret from me, troublemaker.
Tell me why you dislike the ocean.
Hi, I have gotten a few pm's lately concerning Fjordson and what happened to it, and I feel like it's about time to clear that up. Fjordson started as a little passion project that turned into a webcomic, and I had a lot of fun making it and running it for as long as I did, but I quit because I got a "real" job and became kinda depressed and put most of my projects on hold. Then, out of the blue I was contacted from a publishing company in Norway (I'm Norwegian, lived in the US for school and work) who wanted to publish the comic, and have me make more books after that. Of course I said yes, quit my job in America and traveled back to Norway to pursue this. So now, Fjordson is not going to continue online but it's going to be published books written in Norwegian (which is a shame for english readers) but I'm hoping it can be published in English one day too. I'm sad I'll be losing readers who enjoyed Fjordson while it was online, but I'm hoping to bring the story back to english readers one day, and it'll be way better than it was when it was online. Also, a big details is that it has been renamed from Fjordson to "Northen lights" or "Nordlys" as it's named in Norwegian.
Thank you for everyone who followed the comic while it was up, hoping some of you will be able to get a hold of the printed version from the book store :)
I don’t really use Tumblr anymore, if you wanna see what I do on Instagram, follow me @malintfalch
Started my first day as a concept art intern at Zynga yesterday! Going to be there all summer. For anyone who has been waiting for Fjordson updates, it’s my next task to revive it again.
