"I don’t see what all the fuss is about Ralph," said the little blue mer-handyman.

He was being led through the southern currents by his larger friend, Ralph, who wasn’t so much a merman but more of a turtle-themed hybrid. He had shell-like plates along his back and waist that went into a large merman-like tail fin, with more small octagonal plates littering his arms, chest and even some tiny ones on his cheeks.

He and Felix, the son of the King of the Seven Seas, heir to the throne and Golden Hammer, had been friends ever since they were young boys, so when Ralph had snuck Felix out of a lecture from the King’s royal pain of an adviser, Gene, it wasn’t such an odd request. But after yesterday’s events, with Felix rescuing that blonde woman from nearly drowning in a shipwreck, he’d thought that he and Ralph agreed to lay low with the rule breaking. But Ralph had said this was urgent.

What could be more urgent that they would risk getting in trouble with his father?

"You drag me all the way here just to go to the Grotto? What for?" said Felix. He jumped when Ralph suddenly stopped him to wrap a bit of seaweed around his eyes. Felix was not amused in the slightest. "What in tarnation—!"

"Chill out Felix. And don’t peak! Don’t wanna ruin the surprise," said Ralph, sounding excited as he led Felix the rest of the way through the little handyman’s secret hide-away. "This way. C'mon, shake a tail fin."

"Alright alright, hold your seahorses," grumbled Felix, following the sound of Ralph’s voice blindly through the cavern. It didn’t take long before they made it to the alcove when Ralph told him to stop. Felix folded his arms and pouted, quite fed up with all the secrecy. "Ralph, if this is another one of your pranks—"

"No pranks Felix, honest," said Ralph. 

Felix could hear Ralph smiling in his voice. He also heard a stranger sound: the sound of something heavy and made of stone being dragged along the seabed.

"Okay, you can look now."

Felix sighed and undid his blindfold, full expecting his grotto to be reorganized in some weird way, like the many other times Ralph messed with his collection of human knicknacks without telling him. But what he did see was beyond his expectations. It made his jaw drop. It made his heart stop.

"…Oh my seas…"

Felix swam forward in a daze, staring open-mouthed at something he never thought he'd see again. It was a large marble statue of a woman with short hair, wearing the most stunning dress he had ever seen. It was actually quite gaudy in some respects, depicting the woman in a hollow, not-quite-there way that hardly captured the essence of the woman it was emulating. But to Felix is was nothing short of amazing, from the high definition of the statue's face to the dynamic pose. It was quite possibly the closest he'd ever get to the woman he'd rescue ever again.

"Where did you find it?" Felix sounded like he was somewhere between choked-up and ecstatic, Ralph meanwhile leaning very proudly against a shelf of dinglehoppers.

"Somewhere down by the trenches. Thing was so pristine, hard to believe it was almost struck by lightning-- OOF!"

Felix had flung his arms around the larger merman's neck, nearly sending the both of them spinning upside down.

"Heh, so you like it?" said Ralph.
