I've been trying to figure out how to articulate my interesting relationship with "Church" (the place) lately and this morning it finally hit me. I was listening to a song that reminded me of a time in my life when I was in DEEP pain and I was so desperate for Jesus to come and save me and he "didnt" and I was upset about that. So I use to go to church every week just desperate for whatever it was that I needed to do or say to get Jesus to finally come see about me in my pain. I thought I could fast and pray trouble away. I thought I could special offering my way to breakthrough. I thought I could run one more lap to a miracle. And I was so desperate - always so desperate for a #supernatural #miracle that I missed out on the miracle in discipline. The miracle in obedience. The miracle in #wisdom. The miracle in learning the lesson. The miracle in consistency. The miracle in #mindfulness. The miracle in knowing that joy and worthiness is now... not one more buck shout away. I still believe in fasting and praying - because "these kind" will only come out by fasting and praying but I do believe that some of my intention earlier in life was trying to manipulate God into loving me enough to do it my way when clearly my way would have me (redacted entire Shari was that I originally typed here 😬) You know what that is? 🤲🏿 Growth! 😹 I still believe in special offerings but not that the offering changed the thing, God had already done it and I didn't need to give away my light bill money to make it happen. And as the author of #FiveMilesToJesus I CERTAINLY believe in one more lap but not to make me more worthy... just to tone these thighs up on the way to the glory that God has already secured for me. I realized that church used to make me feel insufficient. And I REALLY miss, in a deep and passionate way, the corporate worship experience of my youth... but I don't miss feeling like I'm one more act of contrition away from worthiness when God called me worthy before I was formed in my mothers womb. #TheFreePeopleProject <- Holiness is still right because Wholeness is absolutely right!
