It’s just a funny little thing I started doing for the hell of it, and I’ve done it so much, that it’s just become an assumption that, unless explicitly stated otherwise, he will always have a fish-head in his pocket.

In the last game, he was kidnapped and separated from the group. He was locked in a cell and didn’t have his thieves tools with which he could have picked the lock. So what did he do? He checked his pocket, and found that his captures had left the fish-head alone (there was no way they were gonna touch that nasty thing). He took some of the bones from it and had enough to try picking the lock (with disadvantage) three times (each time I failed to pick the lock one of the bones snapped). 

He got it on the second try, and was able to escape.
