hey fun fact guys there's an alternate timeline for forest's whispers where only gil makes it out. if you even care
the 3 of them, in a sense, get labeled by the forest kind of genloss style. chip is both "the chosen" and "the fallen," jay is "the hero," and gil is "the fighter"
chip's labels come from that, in a sense, he chose to follow the forest's pull above the others (thats another topic i'll get into) and falls/dies to it in the end
gil's comes from the fact they're the one really fighting for everyone's survival, literally picking fights or just doing usual survival things
and jay's.
jay was initially meant to be a sacrifice, the "hero" of the story in a gl!charlie way. she was supposed to be taken, or killed, by the forest, lowering chip's will to live, bringing him closer to that "fallen" label, and heighten gil's fighting spirit, because now they have an actual casualty on their hands and have someone to fight to avenge, not just someone to fight to help survive
but she manages to escape that trap that was out for her, removing her of that "hero" label and leaving her there as someone who wasn't supposed to be a part of the forest's story
because, in a sense, the forest is like showfall, wanting its chosen few to play to the story it'd laid out perfectly and not truly knowing what to do when one of it's chosen breaks from that narrative
it didnt count on niklaus showing up either, which fucked up the killing off of chip, and that's why there's post-escape effects
the forest didnt know what else to do, in the sense that it could only leave lingering bits on its victims to remind them that that wasnt supposed to happen, they werent supposed to get out
only gil was.
and thats why theres an alternate timeline where they were the only one to get out thanks for coming to my incomprehensible tedtalk <- thought of the genloss paralells listening to the ost last night
