What we did on Monday - the Mittens and I spent about 45 minutes hiding in the bathroom during the derecho when it came through right about 12:30pm. The winds were UNREAL. And when the tornado sirens came back on and the wind changed pitch I grabbed the cats, a blanket, and the flashlight and headed for the bathroom. We’re ok and came out much luckier than most. The big ash out front only had very minor limb damage and the house appears to have no damage at all (except for green lilac leaves stuck all over the back of the house like green chicken pox). I was without power from about 12:30 Monday to 4pm Tuesday, so all the perishables in the fridge got tossed and I did some reading by hurricane lamp (super-pleased I remembered I had that since it threw light pretty well), and the Internet came up sometime Tuesday night/a Wednesday morning. Sending love and big hugs to everyone who came out of this much worse on Monday.
