This city has more shadows than Kat is comfortable with. Main streets and alleyways blur together. When she’s walking down a busy sidewalk, surrounded by people, it still feels like she’s in an alley somewhere, hiding.
Tonight, for the first time, she’s using it in her favor. She hadn’t felt confident in doing so, at first, but it’s impossible to ignore the headlines. It's always just a matter of time before she starts to dish out some vigilante justice of her own.
This particular alley is so narrow that the rain running down the brick walls reflect some of her red glow back at her. It has never been this easy for her to get around unseen, even at night, and she’s excited, but not nearly enough to feel at ease in the shadows. No matter how many times she checks the dark corners or looks over her shoulder, she can’t help but feel watched. It wouldn’t exactly be laying low, if someone saw her fight a burglar.
❝The dark is getting to me.❞
