Over the past weekend, Hurricane Harvey hit Texas hard, causing catastrophic flooding in the in southeastern parts of the state.

First responders have been and are doing everything they can to save those affected by the tropical storm, including moving the most helpless out of harm’s way. On August 24 and 25, flight crews worked for 18 hours, including through the night, to transport 10 newborns in neonatal intensive care from Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi to Cook Children’s in Fort Worth.

Officials say all of the babies are critically ill, which makes them especially vulnerable to Hurricane Harvey’s devastation. Thanks to the heroes below, however, all of the infants were evacuated to safety on four different planes.

One Step Closer to Star Trek's Universal Translator

RTT Mobile’s ELSA unit is on the frontlines law enforcement, EMTs, and other first responders communicate with non-native English speakers.

ELSA stands for Enabling Language Service Anywhere and connects users with live interpretors who can quickly translate, as well as record, 180 different languages and dialects into English.

The unit's design is rugged, ipod-esque, with just three buttons, built-in microphones, and a speaker. It uses existing wireless networks to connect users with translators in under 30 seconds.

ELSA interpreters work for Language Line Solutions, and many have specialized training in areas like business, medicine, and government which allows for assisting in much more complex situations that might require understanding of specific concepts and terminology.
