Thoughts on Nona the Ninth
Okay. I've had a few hours to sleep and mull things over.
First, it was a hell of a story and just makes the wait for Alecto even harder. I can see how some might not like it (admittedly, it was a bit slow at first for me) but I think I can see why it came into existence. (Only supposition on my part)
Kiriona Gaia is just... gender. Like, it did such a delicious mind-fuck for me hearing her referred to as "Prince." Interestingly, Ianthe didn't trigger that same response, even though she is also a Prince.
Nona as a person was another mind-fuck but from the perspective of my own personal fears. I have a deep fear of loosing my sense of self and identity. So for her to be who and what she is did a number on me.
Coronabeth irritated me. My vibe is that she is, at her very core, a survivor. She will do what ever it takes to stay alive. Join BoE? Let's go. Still not sure if she really wanted to go back to the Third or join Ianthe or if that was an actual BoE plot and not another betrayal.
Pyrrha Dve is just someone who needs a hug. She's been through so much and just let her be happy.
Nona deserves a birthday party.
I'm curious to see if Gideon's souls is still fully trapped in Harrow's body or if it was fragmented and now a piece of it resided in Kiriona. Excited to see that thread explored more.
John.... oh John. For all of his easy-going attitude and the fatherly figure aspect he takes on, I feel like he's a lot more evil than portrayed. I mean, "I picked you to change, and this is how you repay me?" That plus he admits that he's a monster for the initial act. I guess that I'm just curious to see where this all goes.
Paul. I'm wondering if, at this point, there is any version of perfect lyctorhood. It seems like what John and Alecto have is it (other than the whole Alecto issue in general) but at the same time, seeing Paul was an interesting twist. Will they function like what we expect Lyctors to or can they multi task?
Ultimately, I've still got a lot to work through and hopefully on the next listen to, I'll be able to pick up more.
But for now, that's all I've got.
Note: So, I listened to the stories on audiobook and had to borrow the books themselves to get the side stories. Which was a little frustrating because there was a lot I was missing lol
