Positive Member of the Month (PMOTM) QUESTIONS & FUN FACTS Name: Nigel Last name: Nyathi Stage name: Toon (or Lil Toon) Date of birth: 09 Jun 1995 Age: 19 Birth place: Bulawayo, Zimbabwe Height : I have no idea Star Sign: Gemini Relationship Status: Been single for as long as I can remember Favourite Colour: Green Favourite Artist or Music Group ? Eminem Who are you and what is your role in the First Positive cast ? I'm Toon and a whole cast of "fucked up". I'm an artist, the artist. What positive message do you have for your supporters ? That depends on what they're looking for. Nobody hears music the same way as the next. If everybody is hearing the same thing I've failed as an artist. That would mean I'm 2D. That's predictable, and I'm not predictable. Who is your celebrity crush ? They're all sex idols so obviously I want them all. From Beyonce down to Rihanna going past Nicki stopping along to get Iggy. Who inspires you to be you ? Musically? Slim Shady, Weezy, Kendrick, Lupe Fiasco, Kid CuDi and T. Klan. If we're talking about the people I meet then I'd say everyone I've ever met. Whether they left me bitter or empowered, they helped mold me. Social networks people can find you on ? I don't really do shit on social networking sites but every once in a while you can catch updates on T. Klan related shit on @TuneKlan on twitter and at tuneklanent.tumblr.com - that's about that though. I try to be about the music purely and not get gassed by the internet hype. What can you tell us about you that people don't know? I learn as y'all do. It's all in the music, you just gotta decode the shit. How did you join First Positive ? Marlon approached me. The idea sounded worth while so I tagged along. Where do you want to be in the next five years ? On top of the world, making stupid decisions and spending my youth and money like the typical drugged out public figure. More importantly, I see myself making my music and being recognised for the worker I am. What genre would you classify your music under ? It's definitely hip hop but sounds like "gangsta rap" and "psychedelic" met at a college party, fucked and the unwanted baby grew up powerful and met the equally great "horrorcore" and that resulting genius baby became my style. What is your favourite song currently? That's a difficult question but I'm always bumping "Drug Ballad", "Till I Collapse", "Role Model", "The Way I Am" and "Yellow Brick Road" all by Eminem. I've also got "The Rise of the Klan" on repeat. What is your favourite movie ? The Life of Walter Mittney, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and I know there's more but out of fear of forgetting and later regretting having left them out, let's go with "...and more." As an artist what is your songwriting technique ? Live my life as best as I can, going through the day-to-day but remaing as astute and analytical as possible. When I find a beat I fuck with, I'll get up and get some THC in my system before I dance around the room with the melody of the beat writing lyrics. Usually on what I wanted to do or say in any given situation that really stood out during my day-to-day. What inspires you to write songs the way you do ? The bar Eminem set for me. I've had other bars in the past but currently this is the highest bar I'm at. This is my competition. This man I've put myself against and constantly compare myself to is what inspires me to coin the shit I do. Where can people find you when you not in studio ? In my room, with my headphones on, writing lyrics for next time I'm in the studio. What do you do in your spare time ? I'm a really boring person to hang around. If we're not doing something which involves music then I usually just sit there zoned out day dreaming about a life I wish to live. I don't have too many friends because of this. I'm too awkward outside my comfort zone - yup you guessed it, music. Which entertainer would you love to work with ? I don't know if anyone is keeping score but I must have said Eminem's name more times than I've said my own but I would love to go in the booth one on one with the Rap God. Kendrick, Lorde and the Script also tickle my fancy but my list doesn't stretch too long nowadays. I feel like musicians have become really lazy in their art and work, more on their "image". When did you decide that you want to be an entertainer ? The serious decision was made in 2012 but since I had an uncle live with us who encouraged me to write I've been fascinated with making words rhyme. He probably used me writing lyrics as a way for me to practice reading and writing but my little young mind had its sights set on other horizons. I don't know what he'd think of this new me but those who stop moving get run over. What is your biggest fear ? Despite everything - my skill, talent and hard work - I don't make it. Maybe I can be president? Who is your role model ? Every person to have ever realise what makes them happy, work on it, get good, make a fuck load of cash and become success stories. Those people are my role models not because they're successes but because they fought the current and won. What are you currently working on ? Right now I'm just dealing with boring "nice guy" problems from bitches to bullies, but, you know I gotta keep that pen and pad within arms reach. What type of movies do you like? Movies that'll keep me "stoned", and won't let me burn out because I'm bored as fuck, are dope. Usually that's comedies, adventures, animations, horrors and chick flicks that don't make me wanna puke. Fuck a drama, pure romance, and those stupid true stories can make like their leads and go die. Which social network are you more on ? I guess it would be Facebook because it let's me stalk my exes. All one of them. What type of girl or guy do you like ? As a person, the one who isn't the cliche and doesn't let my foul mouth and dark humour blow our buzz. As a sex doll, a nice rack and pretty face with an ass proportional to her body. Where do you study ? Wits. What series do you like watching? I got a routine. At something past ten, I get grilled until 22:50 when "The Simpsons" starts and I watch a double episode of that which finishes and goes in to "Bones" just before "South Park". What have you managed to achieve so far this year ? Nothing at all. Music is a funny business. One moment you can't catch a break then the next thing you know you now have to learn your new number every month because your last phone would not shut the fuck up and kept ringing. Which place would you love to go and visit ? I already told the niggas, we gotta do a Cross Euro-America tour. Start in L.A, up to London, go past Spain, hit up Netherlands, down to Germany and close off in Cali. Every where else can sit down for a minute at the back with the rest of the basics. If you had to go on tour what will be the five essential things you would take ? In my requests I'd say the next gen consoles with every game they could get their hands on, a shitload of sour worms and popcorn (Salt & Vinegar only), a big buffet, some trippy ass lights and a dude we can send and boss around, no questions asked and at our complete discretion. How would you describe yourself to a blind person ? My outer case is really plain and boring. Nothing fancy or eye catching but my inner self is an explosion of colour, a ghost and some sort of omnipresent being bathed in an unexplainable aura. Emphasis on unexplainable. Mysterious and misunderstood. How do you intend on giving back to society ? If the opportunity presents itself I'll see but I'm a really self-oriented person. My entire youth as the "nice guy" has turned me in to the "I couldn't give a single fuck guy" and if my self interest benefits any third party - lucky them. What is your Positive Dream ? Ridiculous amounts of power. What makes you happy ? In all it's dramatic theatrics, I'm not too sure yet but music does something to me so I'm gonna follow it and see if it leads me to happiness and fulfilment. How does it feel like being the PMOTM ? I haven't done much yet but it's pretty dope to be the first. So I got that going for me. What does being the PMOTM mean to you ? The next person is my competition. If its me then I carry on as my own competition but I'm highly competitive and embrace the spirit. What is your favourite motto besides 'Doing it For The Art' ? "You'll either die the hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villian". The Joker said this and it's always stuck with me. In my life I see it in two ways; I might start off as the great rapper I promise but as with the case with a lot of greats, I might fall off and become what I hate most - some lazy corny cliche rapper. The other thing that rung as a possibility is my changing as I become the "villian" who values money over life. What words do you live by ? There is no such thing as "too much" if it's worth doing because anything worth doing is worth doing a lot. Even moderation must be taken in moderation.
