it just made me think back on my own experience with her work. my first 'danmei' if u could say was actually Linqi/spiritpact. idk if it is considered danmei, cause it's main source material is a manhua, with donghua/anime adaption. mdzs would have been my 5th or 6th one, but im not sure. it was after i finished all, except the live action, adaptation that i came to know abt svsss and tgcf.
mxtx works, they do have their charm. but personally, all the good points come from the subtexts - intentional and unintentional ones. if not for that, they kind of feel flat. for example, in mdzs, wwx's trauma regarding dogs. in the novel, it is mentioned a couple of times, but it is not delved that deep. it is even treated for jokes in a couple of scenes. but if we the readers make the active effort to think abt how much wwx suffered as a child, and how bad must his experience must have been to be terrified of them even into his adulthood.
svsss, i have my own thoughts abt it, but i will go on abt it some other day. i also didnt really like how she retroactively went and changed things in both svsss and tgcf. i understand changes made to comply with the censorship laws, but few changes felt really unnecessary. considering it has been years after the work has been finished.
i think her works have the potential, but she plays it safe when she could have taken a step further to explore.
