Hey! So I saw your really good drawing of Phichit, but I was also a little bit concerned because he was quite a bit lighter in your drawing than in the anime? It's always a bit disheartening to see characters getting whitewashed, and I just wanted to ask in case that wasn't intentional on your part.

Linguistics is super white, but as a black student, I feel it really comes down to whether I feel like they're interested in me with my racial identity or in spite of it. I want to be encouraged, not talked down to. It's also very important, in academia overall, to have VISIBLE black professors and researchers. I know I am not likely to see people who look like me in this field, but I will do everything I can so that future students will be.
Thank you! I wish you best of luck and fortitude going forward. And, I promise to join you in doing everything I can to make sure future students of linguistics see professors and researchers who look like them and represent them.
