Fire (Chapter One: Emmaleigh and Luke)
Those were the words that Calum used to describe Michael Clifford. He used the very words from Stephen King himself. But I never realized how accurate they were, though. That is, until I met the boy for myself. Calum had just told me that even though so many people surrounded Michael, that he was just alone, and all he really needed was someone.
“Guys! This is my friend Alexus.” Calum said, wrapping his arm around my waist, pulling me into his side.
“Ahh! The infamous Alexus! Hi, I’m Ashton!” Ashton chirped. I already knew who they were, because of how fond I was of the band, and how close I was with Calum himself. He practically only told stories of the tour when he was around me.
“I’m Luke.” He hummed, opening his arms for me. I smiled, and wrapped my arms around him.
“Michael.” The last one said. My eyes flickered from Luke, over to the tall boy with the skunk hair. I bit my lip, and noted his expression. He had a very small and fake smile playing on his lips. It was kind of like he didn’t really want to be here right now. I bit my lip and smiled at him. I could already tell that what Cal said was right. That Michael was alone, despite what appeared.
“Yeah, and I’m Emmaleigh.” A blonde mumbled from behind Michael. I glanced over his shoulder, and raised an eyebrow. There stood a girl, about five four, with (clearly) dyed blonde hair, and green eyes. She was pretty, yes, but in a fake way. Plus, something in the way she glared at me over his shoulder showed me that she wasn’t as pleasant as she seemed to be, and she didn’t seem to very pleasant at all. “Michael’s girlfriend.” The word slid off of her tongue like turpentine.
I nodded, and bit my lip, stepping back from Luke, and back towards Calum. “Oh, really? And why would you feel the need to inform me of that? I know who 5 Seconds of Summer are, considering my best friend is in it, so that means that I would ultimately know who they’re dating. So unless you sensed me as a competition, you wouldn’t have found it necessary to fill me in on that, would you?” I hummed, smiling innocently. Her eyes widened, and so did everyone else’s. Calum’s jaw dropped and he elbowed me in the side. I glanced over at him, and smirked. “Anyways, good to meet you boys.” I hummed, waving simply to Luke, Ashton, and Michael as I walked into the kitchen of their LA house. 5 Seconds of Summer were in LA for a month and Calum invited me, since my birthday was during that month, and he said he wasn’t missing it again this year. Also, I hadn’t met the boys yet, despite the years of them being friends, so I finally got to do that, too.
“What the fuck was that?” I heard from behind me, as I grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge. I turned around, and saw an amused Calum standing in the doorway of the kitchen. I glanced behind him and realized that nobody was behind him and I let out a giggle.
“Oh please, I saw through Emmaleigh Vaughns’ bullshit the very first time I saw a picture of her. She’s not as perfect as everyone thinks.” I mumbled, shrugging.
Calum bit his lip and nodded. “Ya know, you’re right. Emma’s not the best person, whenever Mikey’s not around… She’s fake. When Mikey’s around, she acts like she’s the spawn of Jesus.” He groaned.
“Poor Mikey...” I muttered, sighing softly. “Anyways… I’m going to get dressed, I’ve never been to the US, and I really want to go explore. Care to join?” I asked, raising an eyebrow. He shook his head.
“Nah, I’m just going to take a nap or something.”
I nodded, and frowned. “Fine… I’ll go ask Luke.” I said, walking into the living room. “Hemmings?” I hummed, taking a sip from my water.
He looked up from his conversation with Ashton, and raised an eyebrow. “Hey, Smith, what’s up?” He asked, smiling softly.
“Calum’s being a loser. Want to go hang out?” I hummed. He smiled and nodded.
“Yeah, sure. Where?” He asked, standing up.
“Dunno.. You just wanna go walk the streets of LA?” I hummed, shrugging.
“Yeah sure, of course. Just let me go change.” He said, smiling softly at me, and jogging up the steps. I walked up behind him, walking into my room, and changing. It was mid-July so it was mid-summer in the states, while back home it would be mid-winter. So I had to remember to pack warm clothes. I changed into a pair of high waisted jean shorts that showed off my long legs, with a Nirvana muscle tee. I brushed through my naturally dirty-blonde hair, and slid on my black vans. I grabbed my black sparkly backpack from Pink, and made sure I had everything I needed. I ran down the steps and into the living room. Michael and Emmaleigh were sitting on the couch, cuddled up. He looked so fond of her... if he only knew. Ashton was asleep in the recliner, and I smiled, softly. Luke came down a few minutes later, a Ramones’ tee, with a pair of dark jeans, and black vans.
“Ready to go?” I hummed, smiling. He nodded, smiling.
Luke and I walked out the door, after getting a look from Emmaleigh. We walked down the street, towards downtown LA. We decided to walk since it was such a nice day. When we got closer to downtown, there was already a mob of fans waiting. I groaned inwardly.
“How the hell did they know we were going to be out here?” Luke groaned. I pulled out my phone, and checked twitter.
@EmmaleighVaughns: ‘Guess who’s in downtown LA, shopping right now? Luke Hemmo and his new girlyfriend Lexus James (; It’s a date, ya feel?’
I groaned, and showed Luke the tweet. “Fuck, she’s a bitch.” He sighed.
I wasn’t known very well, but I still was, simply for being Calum’s best friend. We dated for a while but we ended up just staying friends, so I guess people knew me from that too.
“Luke!” Everyone started screaming, along with a few, “Lexus!” screams.
“Luke are you dating her?”
“Lexus are you and Luke dating?”
“Luke, where are the others?”
And suddenly we were surrounded by hundreds of screaming girls.
“God, that was fucking torture.” I groaned, as I walked into the house, dropping to the couch when I made it in the door.
Luke chuckled and shook his head. “Not so much, I enjoy that.. but the shopping, yes. We couldn’t even look at something without one of the fans trying to buy it for us.” He chuckled, siting down beside me.
“Mhm, today was fun though.” I hummed, laying my head on his shoulder.
“Very fun.” He chuckled, wrapping his arm around my shoulder.
The next thing I knew, my eyes were closed, and I didn’t remember a thing.
When I woke up, I kept my eyes closed because I heard the guys talking. My head was in somebody’s lap, and whoever was above me was playing with my hair.
“I think somebody likes her.” I heard Calum say from across the room.
“Nah.” Luke said, with a small chuckle. Wait, were they talking about... me?
“You’ve been looking at her like she’s pure fucking gold.” I heard Ashton say, from a distance. So either my head was in Luke or Michael’s lap. Hopefully it was Luke’s because I wasn’t sure if I even liked Michael yet. He didn’t make an effort to talk to me, but then again his bitch ass of a girlfriend was always around. So there was probably no way my head was in his lap.
“She is, though..” I heard a small whisper say from above me. Luke. Good. “I just mean that, she’s special, I can already tell... But we’re only friends. I just met her today.” He chuckled.
I groaned, sitting up sleepily, rubbing my eyes, so it looked like I just woke up.
“Mornin’ sleeping beauty.” Calum said, smiling widely at me from the recliner.
“Hi, Cal.” I muttered softly, stretching. I looked back at Luke and smiled.
“Hey..” He said, smiling. I nodded and smiled.
“Hi, Lukey.” I said, standing up. I looked over at Ashton who was sitting by Michael, who was looking around the room, uninterested in my waking up. “Hi, Ash.”
“Hi, Lex.” He laughed. Michael glanced up at him, raising an eyebrow.
I sighed as Michael got up and practically ran up the steps. I rolled my eyes and groaned.
“Be ready for a fun month, Lex.” Calum chuckled.
