but it has always been true that no one needs love to destroy them.

They always end up kissing the wrong person,

promising themselves not to get attached just this one more time.

You and I were no different.

In a moments company we shared the highs and lows,

the pains of past loves, mixed with the scent of fresh sea breeze in your car fogged our minds.

Yes we were years apart,

The crisp linen of your shirt and your confident stride, contrasted with the messy college bag I carried made it all clear.

But all that separated and collided our worlds all at once, mellowed down,

when your fingers traced the skin of my cheeks and I finally knew the taste of your mouth.

And it wasn’t long before I was on your lap your hands holding on to my waist,

as I finally kissed the  tiny freckle on your neck that had my eyes fixated on them since long.

However, I had a tough time reminding myself not to look into those eyes,

A fickle green color, reminiscent of the ocean I wasn’t allowed to drown in cause anyways the amber, not the ocean is my choice.

We shared two promises- one, I write you a poem the other being we never fall in love,

One promise I kept, one I still struggle to keep.
