So a really good project with nothing needed for it except some type of string or cord is fingerloop braiding.
this site has a bunch of resources and a series of videos to get you started! I've included the first one below that teaches you how to do a 5 loop fingerloop braid. I tried it out this afternoon and was able to make a cord myself within a very short span of time by just putting the cord holding loop around my foot and starting away.
