Sat down at my kitchen counter with my old iphone 13, a trade-in box from my carrier, and zero memory of which apple id password i'd set three phones ago
"this will take thirty seconds" i thought
reader, it did not take thirty seconds
—
things i did not know before this experience:
→ find my and activation lock are different things and both need to be off
→ stolen device protection adds a literal one-hour mandatory wait and there is no way around it
→ the toggle being off on the phone does not mean the device is removed from icloud
→ my mom had screen time restrictions on her phone that she set up years ago and completely forgot about which is why her toggle wouldn't move and why i spent twenty minutes confused

wrote up everything that went wrong so you don't have to figure it out standing at a carrier store
