Where Muses Sing ANOTHER MOMENT Where muses sing In black and white By day or night Whether wrong or right…
(Fanfic anon) Thanks! Any recommendations for some Killian-heavy episodes? I'm okay if he only says little things here and there, but it's going to come to a point where he has to say something long winded.
You’re very welcome! Off the top of my head, you could try “The Crocodile,” “Good Form,” “New York City Serenade,” “The Jolly Roger,” “The Apprentice,” “Poor Unfortunate Soul,” “The Dark Swan,” or “The Brothers Jones.” There’s also the phone message he leaves Emma in “Smash the Mirror,” if you’re looking for something more monologue-y.
If anyone else can think of others, please let us know!
I'm trying to write OUAT fanfiction (I've never written fanfics before) and the story focuses mostly on Henry. Killian also plays a major role in my story, but I'm having such a hard time getting his speech just right. Any pointers?
Aww, yay! New fic is always fun and the world could always use some more Captain Cobra. :)
For Killian, I try to make his speech patterns just a touch more formal than I would typically use. Like, let’s say Henry asks him to do something and he agrees. Instead of “Yeah, sure,” I’d have him say, “Of course, lad.” Or if he’s hungry, maybe he says to Emma, “Let’s head over to Granny’s, love. I’m unsure about you but I’m famished.”
It’s not ye olde Shakespeare’s English or anything, just enough propriety so that he doesn’t sound like he’s been speaking with the Land Without Magic’s speech patterns his whole life. I also tend to throw in alternative names for technology (“talking phone” for phone, obviously, but I also use “moving picture box” for television a lot) just to give the impression of someone still trying to figure out how this world works.
If you still have trouble finding his voice, maybe try putting on a Killian-heavy episode to listen to. I use my TV as background noise a lot of the time and I find it helps me pick up the characters’ voices because I’m just listening as opposed to fully watching.
Hope this helps! :)
