#finding ruby

If anyone is unfamiliar it’s my au where when yang went to her mom to find ruby, raven couldn’t make a portal to Qrow because of ozpin magically interfering years ago (security reasons) but she can tell her where in general he is so yang and Weiss have to do their own journey to get to their friends

(Also a bunch of my usual character headcannons and interpretation)

- Yang is one of those people who grows forever, like she has a million growth plates she gets it from her mom who’s also huge but the team never noticed cause they all lived with her and it would be slow, only hint would be that she complains about random aches sometimes but doesn’t say their growing pains or anything

- On that note yang lost a lot of muscle she’s been trying to gain back sense her injury however it’s hard to notice because she GREW sense the fall and is continuing to grow so when Weiss (kiddnapped) sees her walk into ravens camp the first thing she notices is how BIG she is now like she’s intimidating and yang was always intimidating but in her skill and charisma this is her scary and stoic and BIG (she’s still not ravens height tho)

- Weiss and Yang started out VERY rocky at first in school they did NOTTT like each other and both actually had some understandable reasons but slowly became more and more vaguely fond of each other but they never felt they truly got all that close especially compared to their relationships to Blake and Ruby (they had close moments and definitely crossed that boundary but never really communicated much about their original problems with each other which left a lot unresolved) however yang does see huntress team = family because of being raised (ish) by TEAM strq who is her entire family to be a huntress and Weiss sees yang as one of her only real connections with other people because of just being in team Rwby and also they both admire each other a lot very very secretly (Weiss less successfully)

- yang and Weiss have to ask around a lot to try and get info on Ruby and qrows whereabouts but their routinely in bandit/ criminal territory so yang takes charge a lot more (it’s crazy how easily she gets involved with criminals in cannon, it’s nothing to her, what’s yang doing when the team splits up? Fucking around with bandits or criminals MOST LIKELY)

- yang being an older sister and Weiss being a younger sister helps out how fast their good at cohabitating a lot, however it is clear they are projecting their desires for their sisters onto each other (yang more obviously Weiss is more projecting hopes for her relationship for her sister and her)

- Weiss has to hide being a Schnee NON NEGOTIABLE, Weiss is probablymad cause yang is known as the least subtle member of Rwby with her HAIR ON FIRE entrances but it’s definitely actually miss famous singer, songwriter, heiress Miss Schnee! Of atlas’s top fascists and there’s a reason she got kidnapped 0.5 seconds in to being a runaway

- freezerburn team attacks start getting CREATIVE

- yang and Weiss left home a lot earlier for timeline reasons so yang is still getting used to her prosthetic and it’s ROUGH and she is NOT chill about the idea of Weiss helping her out with any of that for a WHILEE like I think she’d actually get mad do NOT bring it up

- Weiss is dealing with a lot cause of her home life and her dad and how rough it all really was and she really wants to talk about it with yang especially after meeting Raven cause it makes her feel like there’s more of a possibility she’ll get it (she assumes the strq household is usually all fun and flowers, it’s NOT) but she doesn’t really know how to bring up “wow my RICH family kinda mad me sad :( my life is soooo hard to a girl who LOST HER LIMB” the awakenings she’s been having sense her early seasons confrontation with Blake has made her realize a LOT but also makes her think she’s STILL to dramatic about her own suffering (she’s not, abuse is real and bad and she experienced it)

- yangs cannon hallucinations and flashbacks? WAY WORSE in this AU she left the house WAYYY to early in recovery honestly she shouldn’t be driving but Weiss DEFINITELY can’t drive (not that yang would let her) Weiss eventually just figures out yang is either seeing things or having??? Some kind of episodes?? (Neither of their families were good with naming their mental problems or naming or talking about them) and she DOES bring it up because it genuinely interferes with things sometimes however yang is even less willing to engage in that conversation but feels REALLY bad about potentially putting Weiss in danger because of it

- Weiss and yang bond really quickly because they like to indulge in ego shit and bragging when they fight and they actually hype each other up a lot and they blend pretty well in conversations cause they’re both mean to losers, however they only start really bonding when they start talking about random excerpts from their pasts, nothing huge at first but yang talks about taking Ruby into the woods as a kid to get places and Weiss talks about her sister teaching her to fight and their in bars enough to make small jokes and comparisons to their alcoholic family members and they both start to piece together that maybe they actually had some similar traumas (neglect isolation, alcoholic caretakers family business expectations) and they have SOOOO much time alone to talk

- yang actually goes out of her way to try and avoid bringing up Weiss’s last name or dad or anything if she can and it’s because she doesn’t want Weiss to feel tied down to it by her and because she gets not wanting to talk about something that makes you feel like you’re something worse

- Weiss has her own new reactions to some things after being home again for a while of flinching and hidden nervousness and yang try’s REALLY hard to not fuck around with that but she’s a big load and currently very jumpy person

- ⬆️Weiss also does NOT want to talk about that specific issue she’s having

- yang and Weiss both try to cope with bad shit they went through busy thinking of them as either making them better (yang) or making them earn something (Weiss) like it makes them stronger or better for having lived through it instead of it just being a fucked yo thing that happened to them for no reason

However the very recent things are awful and ongoing and make them feel lesser and weak and wrong so they CANT cope that way and choose to ignore it for a while and are none to pleased at the fact the other is VISIBLY aware of what’s going on with them

- Weiss is kinda really attached to yang (try’s HARD to hide it) after missing genuine connections SO MUCH in atlas and also never REALLY feeling like a part of the team to the extent she wanted to and the fact that yang saved her and it’s just them alone and Weiss is genuinely really nervous that when they find Ruby Yangs just gonna kinda ditch the relationship she has been building with Weiss because obviously the point is Ruby the whole time their doing anything

- yang is really attached to Weiss because of usual abandonment issues

- yang very soon into their journey after Raven, during a conversation over the fact Weiss left before she got to see yang awake in the hospital, mentions the idea that Weiss could’ve just come home with her and Ruby, and does so in a manner where she seems to have assumed Weiss was aware that Ruby and her would’ve been fine with her just living in their house with them at any moment (yangs almost a little upset sounding at the idea Weiss knew about that and then went back to her abusive father anyway)

This is because yang and ruby have repeatedly offered Blake and Weiss the opportunity of staying in their house over any future brakes or anything and gave them an open invitation to the house but both Weiss and Blake assumed they were being polite, like possibly culturally in vale that was a polite thing to say to friends cause neither Blake or Weiss are from vale and just assume yang and ruby are the norm and there’s no WAY these two just offered schnee heiress and ex terrorist a open invite to live at their already to small house

Post this interaction they start to refer to all future plans with the general assumption Weiss now lives with the strq family instead of ever returning home to atlas (Weiss brings her sister up on occasion and yang says she can come cause obviously she understands the importance of sisters but Weiss is like “in charge” of dealing with her sense yang assumes she might be kinda racist and is not putting that on any random Faunus they meet)

- Weiss is a little mean about yangs ptsd because it’s GENUINELY affecting them sometimes and yang REFUSES to talk about it and Weiss is mad about it but knows she’s probably being to mean about something really fucked up (she’s NOT mean about the arm) purposely making her more upset and angry in hopes of getting yang to talk about it at ALL but the conversation doesn’t happen till like one night at like 3 am when they’re having some deep conversation about they’re shitty time being separated from the team and it’s quiet and non specific and they don’t bring it up the next day at all but it’s important it happened

- Weiss IS kinda fucked up about being kidnapped by Raven and is no longer chill with being alone in a lot of places anymore, she eventually gets used to it again but not super comfortably

- during one of their very late night talks Weiss confesses she had a small crush on Phyrra for a while but she feels really ashamed and awful when thinking about that after her death and they also never bring this up after that night but Weiss feels a lot better about it afterwards

- yang try’s to teach Weiss how to fight without her weapon and they both interpret this as a show of love because yang cares enough about Weiss’s safety and this is how yang shows love to Ruby and how winter shows love to Weiss
