One of the challenges of getting involved in the roleplaying hobby is finding stores that carry RPGs, or other gamers who also play RPGs or LARP. Thankfully, there are a lot of online resources available to help make meeting others a lot easier. The best part of all is that all of these sites are free of charge, so you don't have to choose. Sign up for them all, and increase your chances of finding the perfect group to game with!

You've probably been asked this before, but do you have any advice for finding/forming a gaming group? I kind of want to run and/or play in some in-person campaigns when I get back to university. (I've played and GM'd online many a time)
I’m a big fan of using Meetup to find gaming groups, so I usually try to encourage folks to use that. Mainly, it’s because I organize some games through Meetup and I keep wanting to meet a new player that says “Tumblr sent me here.”
Other people have had luck using the message boards at Giant in the Playground or RPGGameFind. Some google-fu also revealed NearbyGamers and a subforum at RPG.net.
If that doesn’t work, you can also use google maps. Just lookup your current location and try to “Search Nearby” for “Dungeons and Dragons.” This will show you the local hobby stores that sell d&d stuff, and those shop owners probably know of local games looking for players, or players looking for a GM.
If all else fails, since you’re at university you can just do what I did to get started. Talk about lord of the rings and star wars in your classes’til you find fellow nerds. Then ask, “Hey, have you ever played d&d?”
