Many people seem almost allergic to the term 'scientific consensus'. I blame it on the misplaced idea that scientists aim to uphold a consensus at all costs and outsiders are held back. Scientists try to shoot holes in the predominant theory all the time, it's the highest prize!
The scientific consensus is regularly updated once data becomes available that challenges it. If your theory or idea can't predict new data *and* explain previous results it can go in the bin. This process has brought you the modern world. Get used to it.
