Unexpected but totally satisfying to me would be if Finn got his shit together and came up with a life plan (California?). And he and Rachel realized that their goals and lives aren't compatible, but that doesn't make either one of them a bad person. And they split up amicably so that they, as individuals, can both chase their dreams and be the best versions of themselves without holding each other back. 

Because as wrong as I think Finn is for Rachel, she's just as wrong for him. I think that if he followed her to New York - with no plan - in order for her to pursue her goals, he'd ultimately wind up unhappy and resentful. I'd love to see them come up with a direction for Finn's character - on his own - without just tagging along on someone else's dream.
