Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8Â Part 9
A groan passed Y/Nâs lips as she tried to stretch out. It had only been minutes since Lex had snapped her neck. It was at that moment she was glad that she had taken that potion so long ago.Â
âI figured you would have been out for hours.â The words held no relief, no happiness that she was okay. If anything Y/N easily picked up on the undertones of anger and disbelief.Â
Y/N hissed against the ropes as she pulled at them again, determined to get them off. âI took a potion after I left Lex and the witch.â She noted as she looked over at Elijah for only a moment before attempting to look at what she was doing. âI knew one day they would come for me and I expected something worse when I drank it.â
She hissed at the pain again as she yanked her hand through the ropes. One hand was free before she braced herself through the pain and pulled the other one out. Her hands were raw as she moved to pull herself free from the ropes around her ankle.Â
With her being weaker than necessary, she knew it was going to take longer for her to heal. With every touch of the vervain ropes, it only made matters worse. But she needed to get out of them in order to fix the mess she was currently in.Â
Once freed, she stumbled over to the switch that controlled the misters over Elijahâs cell. Within seconds, the mist had stopped, allowing Elijah a chance to breathe without taking in vervain. Grabbing a rag, Y/N walked over and wrapped it around the cell door before pulling it open.Â
âWere you ever going to tell me?â Elijah asked as he looked over at her.Â
âI promise Iâll explain myself after we go and stop Lex.â She said with a pleading look.Â
Y/N knew that what Lex had revealed was enough to throw everything out the window. She had kept that secret for so long from Elijah and she hoped it would never have to come out but there it was, out in the open because she had gotten her memories back.Â
Once Elijah felt strong enough to move, he stood rather quickly before walking over to her. âThere is no âweâ that will be stopping him. You wanted this, you go stop him. I need to worry about my family.â
Y/N bit down on her lip as she watched him for a moment before nodding. She knew that she had deserved it. âHope is safe. He canât do the spell without me.â
His eyes narrowed and his jaw ticked as he looked at her. For a split second, Y/N had actually been afraid of the Original in front of her. âThen maybe I should just kill you to get it over with. You donât have a potion this time to come back.â
âYou could,â She said, not allowing herself to shrink in fear. âBut we both know you wonât.â
Without saying anything, Elijah moved past her, his shoulder connecting with hers, before leaving her alone.
 _____
âThis has been here the whole time?â Victoria asked as she flipped through the pages of the grimoire she found a few minutes ago.Â
âI didnât think anything of it.â Rebekah said as she picked up a random object from the box. âIt had been sent to me a few months after the whole ordeal. I just tossed it up here assuming that Y/N would be back soon so I could give it to her since it was Alyssaâs.â
Putting the grimoire back, Victoria picked up an envelope and opened it. A letter had been inside of it and as her eyes began to scan over the words, they widened.Â
âThis was for you to read.â She said looking at Rebekah. Taking the letter, Rebekah began reading the letter.Â
Bex,Â
If you are reading this, something happened to me. Itâs why you are getting this. Y/N had entrusted me with keeping something safe. If I didnât hear from her, I was supposed to burn it. She never said what I was supposed to do with it if something happened to me. So Iâm taking the extra step. Inside this box is a cloaked grimoire. Donât remove the silk that covers it. Y/N was running from someone that needed this grimoire. Uncovering it means theyâll find it and try using it. Y/N was clear that she couldnât be found in the same place with it. Keep it safe and hidden. If anything happens to Y/N, burn it.
Alyssa
âCover that grimoire back up and letâs get out of here.â Rebekah said quickly as she grabbed the silk that Victoria had tossed aside.
âWhat is it?â Victoria asked as she did as instructed.Â
âY/N wasnât taken because of what happened between her and Klaus. She had been running when she came to New Orleans. That grimoire and her canât be in the same place. Weâve just told whoever is looking for it where it is.â Rebekah pulled the covered grimoire out of Victoriaâs hands and rushed out of the room.Â
âKlaus!â Elijahâs voice could be heard as they left the room they had been in. âHope!"Â
As they made their way into the courtyard, Elijah had been walking into it. "What the hell happened?â Rebekah asked as she looked around. âWhere is Y/N?â
âAt the moment that is the least of my concerns.â He spat. Both Rebekah and Victoriaâs eyes widened at his words.Â
âThen what is your concern?â Klaus asked as he walked in. âDid you two have a lovers spat already? Have my reasons for wanting her gone been justified?"Â
Elijah shook his head, not giving into the words his brother had been saying. "Where is Hope?â
âWhatâs going on?â Hope asked as she came running down the stairs.
Elijah had been about to explain when he noticed what was in his sisterâs hand. âPlease tell me that is not a grimoire that Alyssa had."Â
"How did you know that?â Victoria asked.Â
âBecause he just learned how the most recent love of his life had intended to be a part of a ritual that you all just made so much easier to do.â Lex said from the corner of the compound he had entered from. One by one other vampires and witches slowly entered the compound, proving that they were surrounded.
_______
âY/N what the hell happened?â Marcel asked the moment he found her walking into his loft. He ran over to her and helped her over to the armchair before rushing to grab a blood bag for her.Â
âThatâs a very long story. But for right now, I need the box I left with you.â She said as she took the blood bag from him and began drinking from it.Â
Her words had caught him off guard for a moment. âYou got your memories back.â
âI did.â She said in between drinks. "But we can talk about that later. For now I need that box and your help.â
Marcel nodded and left her side for a moment. As he came back, he held out the box for her to take. Without hesitation, she took and opened the box and pulled out the dark object it held inside. To anyone else that had no knowledge of dark objects would think it was just a palm sized metal ball. But the soft blue glow it emitted while Y/N held it was anything but ordinary. After being apart from it for so long, the objectâs light brightened, recognizing her blood.Â
âHow did you manage to get that?â Marcel asked as he knelt down in front of her, looking at the ball.
A small smirk pulled at her lips. âA friend of mine made it for the very reason I need it today.â
Confusion grew on Marcelâs face. âWhat reason is that?â
âDo you remember what I said about wanting an out from a destiny I created?â She asked as she looked up at him.Â
The conversation had been a vague memory. Marcel and Y/N had been drinking one night when she first came into the city. At the time he believed it was just her drunken state. âYou were afraid a mistake had been made. One that would cost a life.â
âThis is saving that life if my plan didnât work.â Her words were soft. The idea of this fixing her mistakes needed to work. If not everything she had put into place all those years ago would have been for nothing.Â
Y/N had watched as Klaus had walked into Rousseauâs. While she had been sitting at the bar, she watched as he made his way to sit in the back corner booth. By the looks of things, he had been wanting to be left alone. But Y/N knew she had come into town to do this. There was no chickening out now.Â
Standing from her spot, she began walking over to him. She thought of many ways to tell him. But no matter how many times she mentally had the conversation in her head, it wasnât the same. As she reached the booth, she confidently took a seat across from him.Â
Klausâ eyebrow raised as he watched as he did so. âIâm sorry love, but Iâm not interested.â
Y/N rolled her eyes at that. âWhat I have to say, Iâm willing to bet youâll be interested.â Klaus had been about to protest, but she stopped him. âItâs about your daughter.â
Y/N could see the mix of emotions pass over Klausâs eyes. âMy daughter was killed. And Iâd really appreciate it if you didnât come over assuming you know things.â The venom in his words was clear to Y/N.
She sighed and pulled out a piece of paper from her pocket. She knew at some point that piece of information would be needed for this conversation. She placed it on the table and slid it on the table.Â
Klaus stared at the paper for a moment. His eyes widened at the information that had been neatly written on it. âWhere did you get this?â He asked as he picked up the paper.Â
âIâll tell you all you need to know.â She said knowing there was no backing out of this. âBut Iâm sure this is not something youâd want to be spoken about here.â
Klaus looked around, suddenly remembering that they were in a public place. He nodded his head and got up out of his seat without a word. Y/N took that as a que to follow him. It wasnât long after that Y/N had found herself in Klausâ study.Â
âWhat is it that you know?â Klaus demanded the moment the door had been closed. âWeâve gone through great lengths to ensure no one knew about this and here you show up with this information.â
âWeâve known since Rebekah came within the limits of the coven I used to work for. Someone such as your sister isnât something they tend to ignore. Especially when she isnât alone.â Y/N took it slowly. She needed Klaus to understand that she wasnât here to threaten him, but here to help him. âThe coven leader is one youâve crossed paths with before, as well as mine. The plan was that we were supposed to get your daughter and to use her magic against you.â
The glare that formed on Klausâs face sent a chill through Y/N. She was becoming afraid of they hybrid standing in front of her. But no matter how much more she grew afraid, this all needed to come out in the open. If she died today, her conscience would be cleared.Â
âI am assuming there is a point to all of this if you are willingly telling me.â Klaus took a step towards her and it took everything in her to not take a step back.
âIn the beginning I had been on board with it. That you of all people should suffer just as I have. The closer we come to getting things ready I learned that we wouldnât just be taking her power. I wouldnât be able to live with myself if I had gone through with it. No one deserves to have their child taken away from them like that. So I took the grimoire and took myself out of the equation?â
âHow exactly were you a part of the equation?â He asked as he took a few more steps closer to her.Â
The distance between them had closed and Y/N tried her best to stand her ground and not back away from him. She knew that there was a possibility that sheâd be dead after this. That she accepted. Sheâd take that over hurting the child.Â
âIâm the first of your line to escape your sire line. Iâm also tied to your family in more ways than one when it comes to the death toll youâve created. While at the beginning of it, I called it an eye for an eye. But the mother in me can not let you or even Hayley go through that as I did.â
The moment the words left her mouth, a gasp followed, Klaus forcing his hand into her chest. The way his hand closed over her heart Y/N had known that he was doing what he thought was best. She didnât blame him.Â
âD-do it.â She said struggling through the pain. â I deserve it. B-but youâll never find out how to stop it w-without me.â
Klaus eyed her for a moment before pulling his arm out her chest, leaving her heart intact. âTell me everything you know. Then Iâll decide if your life is worth sparing.â
_____
Klaus rolled his eyes as he watched the vampires surround them. How many times had he been in this exact spot and those that threatened him never learned. One would think after so many times words would spread that one shouldnât attempt to take over in his home.Â
âI would ask where Y/N was, but something tells me she wasnât welcomed.â Lex came to a stop right in front of the Mikaelsons.Â
Klaus chuckled. âRight.â He said with a shake of his head as he moved in front of his family, stepping right in front of Lex. âThis whole âcome after my daughterâ thing, Y/N mentioned itâŠwas it forty years ago? You lot are really pushing your luck. You have what, less than a week to complete this little ritual of yours? â He waved his hand slightly.Â
âStill plenty of time to be rid of you.â Lex said with a shrug. Klaus knowing about the ritual wasnât a surprise. He had expected that to have been one of the first things Y/N had told him when she came to New Orleans all those years ago. He still had several surprises up his sleeves.
âYou canât do this without her.â Klaus said with a shrug. âWith her being your temporary sire and all.â
âWhat?â Both Elijah and Victoria asked at the same time.Â
That was something the majority of the Mikaelsons had no idea about. Even when Y/N had told him all about it, he never told his family. That was a detail that he could use when the time was right. And by the looks of things, that was going to come into play today.Â
Klausâs smirk was the only answer they received before he looked back at Lex. âIf I remember correctly, it was the pages of this grimoire,â he pointed to the one Rebekah held in her arms, âmy daughterâs blood, and Y/Nâs blood that would be my end. Though, my daughterâs blood changed the moment she transitioned ten years ago.â He shrugged slightly. âThat puts a damper in your plans, doesnât it?â
Lex chuckled as he took a step closer to Klaus. âThat doesnât matter.â He shrugged his shoulders as he looked to those that were behind him. âWe both know she is still very much the tribrid she is. The magic that courses through her veins is what makes it the perfect weapon against you.â
âThatâs enough.â Y/N said as she pushed her way through the crowd, moving to stand right in between Lex and Klaus. âItâs over Lex. You know you wonât be getting what you want out of this.â
âAnd there she is.â Lex said with a smirk on his face as he took in her appearance. âI knew it would be only a matter of time before you showed up. Now how about we not make this any more difficult? If everyone does as they are supposed to, only two of us get hurt.â
âThere is a problem with your plan.â Y/N said with a shrug of her shoulders.Â
Lex scoffed. âI highly doubt that. With as many times as weâve been over the plan. Itâs foolproof.â
âYou believe it is, but there are a few tricks up my sleeves that will prevent it from working.â At her words, a small smirk pulled at Klausâs lips.Â
He knew what would happen next. This had been the very plan that Y/N had come up with when she came to him. It was foolproof on their part. As long as Klaus and Y/N did as they agreed, there would be no ritual tonight. The only ones that would be hurt from this would be the ones that stood against them.Â
Pulling the dark object from her jacket pocket, she held it for Lex to see. âIâve been just as busy as youâve been, Lex. While youâve been gathering your followers, Iâve been collecting things that Iâve left behind well before my memory was wiped.â
âWhere the hell did you get that?â Lex asked as he eyes the object in her hand.
âI have friends in high places, remember?â She said as she took a step closer to him. âIt would be such a shame if this were to break around us, right?â
âYou wouldnât dare.â His eyes narrowed as they moved from the object to her.Â
âWhy not?â She asked. âIâve apparently got nothing to live for anymore. You took everything from me. An eternity of torment with my sireline wouldnât be the most horrible thing Iâve experienced.â
Lex laughed. âAnd yet you still stand to protect them even if you say you have nothing to live for. If that was really the case, you would have still been on our side.âY/N shook her head. âAt least Iâd go with a clear conscience.â
Lex stepped up to her so they were standing face to face. âWell then, I look forward to killing you along with Klaus.â Quickly one hand grabbed at the dark object while his other shoved into her chest grabbing a hold of her heart. Y/Nâs hand tightened around the object even through the pain.
A gasp passed her lips and Y/N could hear the others yell in protest. Even through the pain a smirk pulled onto her lips. âE-even after a-all this time. Y-you still never learn.âÂ
Lex shook his head. âBy the looks of things, I have the upper hand. Iâm sure seeing you with my hand wrapped around your heart will get a few of them to my will.â
âGuess again.âKlausâs voice that filled the air followed by the sound of a heart being ripped out of a chest.
âWhat the hell?!â Victoria screamed at Klaus the moment Y/N fell to the ground in front of Klaus and Lex. A moment later the sound of the object falling to the ground could be heard as it fell out of Lexâs grasp. While it looked solid beforehand, the moment it hit the floor, it shattered. A green glow began to flow from the broken pieces.Â
A smirk pulled at Klausâ lips as he looked at the shocked expression on Lexâs face. âShe did say youâd never see it coming.â
Just as early when the dark object recognized Y/nâs blood, it recognized the rest of her sireline that stood in the room with Lex. One by one the vampires fell as the eerie glow reached them. Just as Y/N had mentioned, eternity of torment laid ahead for her sireline. And if this had worked, Y/N would have been spared from it.Â
âWell that was rather satisfying to watch.â Klaus said once there wasnât a single vampire standing before him.Â
âCare to explain why you couldnât do that without killing Y/N?â Rebekah asked, still not sure if she even believed what she had seen. But there was the proof lying before her.Â
âSheâll be fine, it was all a part of the plan.â Klaus rolled his eyes.Â
Elijah took a step closer to Klaus. âShe had her neck snapped earlier, that potion wonât work.â No matter how angry he had been with Y/N, he never wanted to see her die at the hands of his brother. The anger that filled him was enough to want to shove his brother through a wall.Â
Klaus put his bloodied hand on Elijahâs shoulder. âTrust me, sheâll live. And when she wakes, you two can go back to being the rather annoying thorn in my side.â As if on queue, a gasp left Y/Nâs lips as she sat up. Her hands went up to her chest, feeling for the gaping hole that had been there before. But she had been healed. The only evidence that proved it happened was the drying blood stain on her clothes and the hole in them.Â
âY/N!â Victoria said as she ran for her best friend and wrapped her arms around her. âDo you know how stupid you are?â
A smile pulled at Y/Nâs lips as she hugged Victoria back. âVery.â She said softly.Â
âI should kill you again for pulling that.â Victoria gave her a fake glare before the both of them started smiling at each other. Standing up, Victoria placed a hand out for Y/N to take to pull her up. Y/N happily took it and stood up.Â
As she turned and looked at the others, there were several expressions on their faces. Rebekah and Hope were relieved that Y/N had been okay. Klaus looked as he normally did and even rolled his eyes when Y/Nâs own eyes landed on him. It was Elijahâs expression that made her bite down on her lip, afraid of what words lied behind the expression.Â
Klaus walked up to her Y/N and placed her hand on her shoulder. âThank you for keeping to your promise.â
Y/N nodded her head. âNo problem. Though something tells me this doesnât put me on your good side.â
Klaus chuckled as he removed his hand. âYouâll never be on my good side. Iâm letting you live, but the next time you try to cross me, I will not hesitate.â
âTrust me, Iâve learned my lesson.â She nodded once more. As he left her side, she looked for Elijah. But at some point as Klaus spoke to her for those few minutes, he left.Â
âGive him time.â Rebekah said as she placed her hand on Y/Nâs back. âThis is a lot for all of us to take in.â
_____
The cool air kissed Y/Nâs skin as she stood out on the balcony of the old room she had once shared with Elijah. Things had changed so much since the last time she had stood in that very spot. As much as she hoped that things wouldnât be completely shattered, there was so much that needed to be fixed. There were bound to be a few missed cracks.Â
Maybe this time she would be different. Maybe they all would be able to get past this. But if today was any indication, the chances of that were slim.Â
"This whole time, he knew.â Elijahâs voice filled the room, interrupting Y/Nâs thoughts.âDid you ever think to include me?â
Y/N nodded her head slightly, her Y/E/C eyes never once moving from the night life. âThere were several times I wanted to tell you. But much like how many things were not your secret to tell, that was no longer my mistake to tell. I fulfilled the reason for coming to New Orleans all those years ago."Â
"And what was I?â He asked as he took a step towards her. âA means to keep tabs on the family?â
That made Y/N turn around quickly. âWhat happened between us was never forced on my part and you know it. I came here expecting to die at the hands of your brother for even being tied to this. Meeting you at Aliceâs,â she sighed softly at the memory. âThat was unexpected. And when I found out you were the Elijah, I should have been worried and ran the other way. But you knew nothing. You loved me for who I was at that moment, not because of all the dark secrets of my past.â
Y/N shook her head as she watched Elijah take a few more steps towards her. The truth was she had never expected to fall for the man in front of her. But every time she wanted to tell him every part of her past, there would be something that held more importance.Â
Eventually the thought of telling him was forgotten as life had moved on for ten years. Hope came home safely during that time. And while Klaus always kept a watchful eye over Y/N to ensure she wouldnât turn against the family, life moved on.Â
âIf I had known, I would have taken more caution letting you in. Every warning my brother had given me about you was because of the information you had given him and I never knew it.â He shook his head and turned away from her.Â
Y/N scoffed. âI fixed my mistakes. Iâm sorry it wasnât with you that I needed to fix it with. And in case youâve forgotten, I once again helped to protect your family or does that no longer matter to you.â
Elijah narrowed his eyes at her. âYou wouldnât have to help protect it if you didnât have a hand in creating the problem in the first place.â
Her eyebrow raised at his words. âClearly Iâm now the enemy in your eyes.â She said as she took a few steps towards him. âWhy not just do what you do best and get rid of the threat? It wouldnât be hard to do seeing as Iâm standing right here.â
âThatâs enough.â Elijah said as Y/N stopped right in front of him. No matter how angry he was with her at that moment, he wouldnât do that to her. Y/N had been right. Heâd never be able to take her life. He cared too much about her to be the one to do it.Â
She sighed, taking a moment to calm herself down. If this was going to be anything like last time, fighting would end badly.Â
âTell me how I can fix this.â She pleaded. She needed this fixed between them. She needed things to be okay. âBecause the thought of you continuing to look at me as you are now, I couldnât handle it."Â Â Elijah shook his head at her not knowing what to say at first. How could something like this be fixed? After all this time, he couldnât even begin to think of exactly how this could be fixed. "There is nothing you can do to fix this. The damage has already been done.â
âThen what would you have me do?â She asked, a heavy feeling filled her chest at his words.  Elijah took a moment to think about what she was asking him. There had been nothing in the last 30 years that changed his feelings for her. He still loved her and he believed those feelings would never go away. But the betrayal and hurt he felt in the last few days was hard to ignore. The first thing he thought of, he couldnât believe it himself. But there it was.Â
âLeave.â The words were firm. Though it wasnât hard for either of them to hear the slight broken tone in them. âThis time, donât look back.â
