“Happy Christmas, Gav,” she said in return, offering him a bright smile. Why was she standing off to the side? She’d started to feel a little hot, after perhaps one too many mulled ciders, and needed a little air. She didn’t mind her little slice of solitude being invaded by Gav, but as she’d been smiling up at him she suddenly realized why no one else might have joined her.
Above them hung a sprig of mistletoe and the blush in her cheeks brought about by alcohol deepened. She blinked, gaze meeting his, and she was about to say something about not having noticed the mistletoe before, but the words died on her lips. The kiss to her cheek was chaste, but it made her blush harder all the same.
She smiled shyly and with only a moment of hesitation reached for him, pulling him down to her level to return the favor. Maybe with another drink she’d have been brave enough to kiss him properly.
