NEW YORK | Box office Top 20: ‘Night School’ is No. 1

NEW YORK — Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish‘s “Night School” opened with $27.3 million in North American ticket sales, making it the first straight-up comedy to debut No. 1 at the box office since Melissa McCarthy’s “The Boss” in April 2016.

NEW YORK | Box office top 20: 'The Predator' takes down 'The Nun'

NEW YORK — “The Predator” topped the North American box office despite controversy over the casting of a registered sex offender, though ticket sales were still modest for the new $88 million installment in the action sci-fi franchise.

The 20th Century Fox release, directed by Shane Black, debuted with $24.6 million domestically, according to final box-office figures Monday. In the weeks ahead of opening, Fox said that it cut a scene from “The Predator” with actor Steven Wilder Striegel after co-star Olivia Munn brought Striegel’s background to the studio’s attention.

The fallout led to Black apologizing for casting his longtime friend for one scene, and a chaotic premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival where Munn said she wasn’t being supported by much of her cast.

“The Predator” unseated Warner Bros.’ fast-falling “The Nun” from the no. 1 spot after the horror film’s $53.5 million opening weekend.

Lionsgate’s neo-noir “A Simple Favor,” starring Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick, surpassed expectations to debut with $16 million.

Sadie glanced down at the picture of Sadie and her father. Sadie was sitting on her dads lap as they both smiled their goofy smile. Sadie sighed softly "I hope you are proud of me, daddy." Sadie whispered as she looked up at ceiling. "I'm trying my best and.." She trailed off shaking her head. "I miss you." She put the picture in the last box she had to pack. Sadie then stood up and glanced around her empty room, all her things were packed and at the apartment her and Owen were going to be sharing. Seeing the room she had lived the past eighteen years in empty was heart breaking. She took a deep breath before picking up the box before leaving the home.
