My thoughts on the Venom movie.
t The first time I went to see Venom I was already looking forward to it because of the audience reviews saying that if you went and watched Venom as a rom-com, it was much funnier. For me, I hadn’t watched any of the trailers I just knew I liked the characters and that’s why I was going to see it. Obviously, this already makes me biased to already liking the movie but this is what I thought about it:
In my opinion, I thought the character interaction was really fun, comical and true to how I would imagine people to react in those situations. The acting was really believable and all the characters were really civil and epithetic for one another compared to some movies where the Ex is introduced to the new partner and they fight or hate each other, this wasn’t the case in Venom.
I found it very funny! It was my type of humour for sure, kind of crude and a little grotesque but I found it very entertaining. The CGI wasn’t the best out there however it didn’t distract me from being immersed in the film at all.
The second time I went to watch I had spoken to a few classmates who thought the editing was bad as the film cut out 40 minutes of film footage and she thought it was noticeable. So when I went again I kept my eyes out for this but to be honest I couldn’t tell personally so maybe I don’t have an eye for it. I did think however that there was some unnecessary back and forth with the camera on the chase scene. The camera was trying to follow the main characters motorbike and then two large cars flying over a hill and crashing down, however, this just made me feel very sick watching it the second time. I feel like perhaps the director was just trying to catch a cool action scene but really it went past so fast and there was so much swishing left to right of the camera that I don’t feel I got anything from that scene that was intended. Unless vertigo was intended.
One of the other things I noticed was that the character venom very quickly went from wanting to take over the planet to wanting to protect it without an explanation at all...I can only theorise why this might be but even then it wasn’t explained in the movie.
Despite this, I still really like the film a lot. For me, the entertainment of the characters was enough to overlook the some of the downsides and I would happily watch it again.
Lastly, this was a video I watched that explained why the critic review and audience review are so very different:

THE GOOD, THE BAD, THE UNKNOWN – Film
Analysis
BAD
STRANGE MAGIC
I found this film by accident whilst searching the internet for an interesting movie to watch when I was bored. It is one of the worst animated movies I’ve ever seen, mainly because it’s a copy of “Arthur and the Invisibles”. The story revolves around two characters, princess Marianne and Bog King “the bad guy” and both of them are just like princess Selenia and Maltazar, in looks and characters. When I was watching the movie my reaction was basically: “OHHH!!!! COME ON!!! REALLY????!!”. This whole movie looks for me like a VERY BAD fan fiction, where someone wanted Selenia and Maltazar to end up together so they made this film.
The animation itself is good, with it being the best for the wings movement. I think the facial expressions were also well animated. The film has two colour palettes- a vivid one for the fairies world and a murky one for the dark forests and they both work together quite well, but there is nothing memorable about them. The shots are also pretty average, of course there is a variety between long pans with wide shots and close-ups, but the film makers failed in catching the viewers attention. The use of lighting, colour contrast and eye lines could be much better. Even the majority of the songs in the movie are not original and most of the don’t even fit with the film, they are there just because everyone knows them, so the film makers probably thought that it would make the audience empathize with the movie better.
