It was just a little cold, yet Samandriel was acting as if you were dying of cancer. The second you had sneezed on your date (really. you just had to go and get sick on your first date with a freakin angel.), he instantly wisked you back to your house. He covered you in warm blankets and turned the fan on before popping into the kitchen to make chicken noodle soup. As he was preoccupied with figuring out the microwave, you slipped off the bed, your feet naturally sliding into your pink bunny slippers, and padded into the kitchen.
Any noises that mightâve been made by you were muffled by his muttering as he poked random buttons. Well, almost any noises; your giant sneeze was pretty obvious.
Samandriel whipped around and stared at you in horror. â(Y/N), what are you doing out of bed!?â he cried, instantly by your side and tugging you back to your room. âYouâre sick! You need to rest! I can take care of this!â
âIâm not dying, Samandriel,â you chuckled, hardly resisting his tugging. âI just want to make sure you donât accidently smite my microwave. Again.â
âThat was an accident,â he mumbled, his face turning bright red. You couldnât help it; you leaned over and kissed him gently on the cheek - if it was even possible, his cheeks reddened even further. Whatever he had been going to say was lost in a jumble of enochian as he set you down on the bed.
âHow about we make a deal?â you suggested, your eyes twinkling. The angel nodded and snapped his jaw shut. âIâll be a good little girl and let you take care of me if you be my boyfriend.â
âAr gohulim, paaoxt, gmicalzo gohed,â he smiled as he tucked you under the blankets before repeating it in english. âThat it is said, let it remain, in power and presence everlasting.â He hesitantly placed a kiss on your forehead before heading back into the kitchen to resume making your soup. This time, you stayed in bed and waited for your angel.

âNeed some help here!â
Samâs shout had you on your feet in an instant. You ran out of your room and down the hall, skidding to a stop when you saw Sam and his brother laying out a very injured Samandriel in one of the bunkerâs unused bedrooms.
âWhat happened?âÂ
Sam looked up, his face tired and etched with worry. âRowena. She hit him with a hefty dose of magic.â
Damn it. You really needed to find a way to kill that bitch.
âWhat can I do to help?â You felt tears forming in your eyes as you looked down at the unconscious angel, but quickly blinked them away.
âFirst aid kit from the bathroom.â
Nodding, you hurried off to get what Dean had asked for.
Once the brothers had patched Samandriel up as best they could, they headed back out. Rowena was still wreaking havoc and needed to be stopped. This left you alone to keep an eye on the injured angel.
âNo!â
Alarmed, you rushed to Samandrielâs room. Upon entering, you saw him thrashing around on the bed. He still appeared to be unconscious, probably having a nightmare about all heâd just endured.
âSamandriel?â You inched closer to the bed, not sure if you should wake him. âSamandriel?â You reached out and brushed your fingers along his hand.
The moment your skin made contact with his, he opened his eyes, wide, and started gasping for breath.
âSamandriel?â
â______?â He tried to sit up, only to fall back, groaning in pain.
âDonâtââ you frowned, unsure of what to do. âDonât try to sit up. You were hit by some pretty nasty magic and you need to heal first.â
He nodded weakly.
âCan I get you anything?â
He shook his head. âI feelâŠI feel this overwhelming urge to sleep.â
âThen sleep.â You shrugged.
âAngels do not sleep.â
âWell,â you bit your lip. âThen donât sleep?â
He barked out a laugh before groaning again. âThank you.â
âI havenât done anything.â
âWell, thank you for being here to watch over me.â
Blush crept up to your cheeks.
You looked up from your notes just in time to see Samandriel collapse against the door frame. You jumped up, moving quickly to help him to a chair. âWhat are you doing out of bed?â
âIâve been in bed for days now. Tired of looking at the walls.â
âOh.â
âItâs only nice when youâre in there with me.â
Your face began to heat as you ducked your head. âCan I get you anything?â
âNo.â He sighed, sinking into the cushions of the chair. âHave the Winchesters been able to defeat the witch?â
âNo,â you sighed. âThey called yesterday and they have me looking up some stuff, but so far, I havenât found much to help them.â
âPerhaps I can assist you?â
Your blush was going to wind up permanently staining your cheeks red. âItâs OK, Samandriel. You should probably rest up some more.â
âI donât mind.â The angel bit his lip.
Maybe he was just as unsure of all this as you were.
âUmâŠOK.â
For three days straight, Samandriel was with you while you researched. Sometimes, heâd help look through books and notes. Other times, heâd be too drained, still recovering from whatever Rowena had done to him, but heâd still sit with you and keep you company.
It was nice.
âIâm fine!â
You looked up from your book to see Sam helping a limping Dean into the library. âWhat happened to you?â
âNothing!â Dean snapped. âIâm perfectly fine.â
âYou broke your leg, dumbass.â Sam retorted, rolling his eyes. âYou got any ice packs, ______? We gotta get the swelling down.â
âYeah. Hang on.â You set your book aside and hurried to the kitchen. You were surprised to see Samandriel already there. âAre you OK?â
âMuch better.â He frowned, taking in your rushed appearance. âAre you alright?â
âIâm fine. Itâs Dean who broke his leg. He needs some ice packs.â You grabbed what you needed from the freezer and started back towards the library. âGuys?â They were nowhere in sight.
âDeanâs room!â Sam shouted.
âOf course.â You shook your head and made your way towards his bedroom. âHere we go.â
âThanks, ______.â Dean sighed as the ice hit his skin. âShit, thatâs cold.â
âItâs ice, Dean. An integral part of ice is usually cold.â
Sam chuckled and even Dean smiled at your sarcasm. It wasnât often that you broke out of your shell around them, and it made them happy when you did.
âThanks, doc.â
âWeâll need to set his leg. But we canât do that without an x-ray machine or whatever it is doctors use.â You paused. âOh. Wait. Hang on a sec.â You hurried out of the room and back towards the kitchen. âSamandriel?â
He looked like he was puzzling over something. âYes?â
âAre you feeling well enough to heal Deanâs leg? If not, thatâs totally fine, but if you could use your--â
He huffed. âItâs fine. I will heal Deanâs leg.â He disappeared and reappeared before you had time to decipher his tone. âDean Winchester is healed.â
Then he disappeared again.
Weird.
As soon as Dean and Sam headed off for another hunt, Samandriel popped back into the bunker, acting as if he hadnât been gone for over a week. It was puzzling, but you enjoyed the angelâs company too much to question it. After all, Cas popped in and out. Maybe it was just an angel thing?
Except, it seemed like every time Sam and Dean were home, Samandriel would disappear. And then, once they were gone, heâd be back. It didnât make much sense.
âSamandriel, wherever you are, we need you to get your feathery ass down here.â Dean called out to the ceiling.
âWhat is it?â The young angel snapped seconds after he appeared.
âLook, kid, we need to talk.â
âI am not a child, Dean Winchester. I am still, very much, an angel of the Lord.â
Dean rolled his eyes.
âItâs about ______.â Sam interjected.
âWhat is wrong with ______?â Worry laced Samandrielâs voice.
Dean and Sam shared a look.
âSee, itâs like this.â Dean began. â______ feels like you keep ditching, anytime weâre at home. But thatâs crazy, right? You wouldnât skip out just âcause Sam and I are around. Right?â
âI do not like seeing you with ______.â Samandriel admitted with a sigh. âI do not understand why I get so angry, so I distance myself.â
Another look passed between Sam and Dean, this time, with a smirk.
âSo, you like spending time with ______?â Sam asked.
âVery much so.â
âAnd you get jealous whenever weâre around ______?â
Samandriel cocked his head to the side. âIs that what I am feeling?â
Dean grinned. âSounds to me like you might be in love.â
âOh.â
âOh?â Sam was confused. âThatâs all love gets...âohâ?â
âWhat am I supposed to do about it?â Samandriel was genuine in his curiosity.
âYou march right up to ______ and say âI love you.â Itâs not rocket science.â Dean scoffed.
âVery well.â Samandriel disappeared.
âI didnât mean--â Dean began, too late. â--right this second.â
âWell, at least ______ will stop sulking.â Sam shrugged.
You were trying not to mope over the fact that Sam and Dean would be at the bunker for another week. That meant it would be at least that long, if not longer, before you got to see Samandriel.
A distraction. Thatâs what you needed. Something to get your mind off your problems. Maybe you could go for a drive or something. Getting some fresh air might help to clear your thoughts.
â______?â
Scratch that. Samandriel was here. Wait...Samandriel was here? Now?
âAre you OK?â He looked very nervous.
His steps were very determined as he moved to stand right in front of you. âI love you.â Then he was gone.
âWhat...what just happened?â you asked to your empty room.
A moment later, Samandriel reappeared. âI apologize. Dean did not tell me it was proper etiquette to stay after I said that to you.â
âDean? He put you up to this?â You started to get angry.
âNo.â Samandriel shook his head. âHe was merely helping me tell you how I feel. I left to make sure Iâd done it correctly, but he told me I was supposed to stay with you after I said it.â
âSo...you love me?â Your heart began to beat wildly. Was this why heâd been so weird lately?
âForgive me, ______, for my âweirdâ behavior. The Winchesters helped me realize that what I was feeling was jealousy. I did not like seeing you with them.â
âYou know, I live here. Iâm going to be around them.â
His brow furrowed. âI understand. I am just unsure of how to make these feelings of jealousy disappear.â
âYou have nothing to be jealous over.â You smiled. âSam and Dean are like brothers.â
âThat is good to hear.â He returned your smile.
âSo, hereâs no need for you to be jealous.â You reached out and took his hands in yours. âAs for that other feeling...do you know why itâs proper etiquette to stay after you tell someone you love them?â
He shook his head.
âSo they can say it back.â You leaned up and pressed a kiss to his lips. âI love you, too.â

Summary/Request:Â âhello honeyy~~ i was wondering if you could write an oneshot where the reader isnât personally acquainted with Gabriel, bust she recognizes him from his Casa Erotica movies when they meet for the first time? He doesnât know how to react neither does the Winchester boys. Dean would laugh his ass off and Sam would stare at the floor nervously, embarrassed. Maybe some smut at the end? thank youâ

You awoke to Dean shouting, which wasnât all that strange, he did happen to be one of those quick-to-anger types.  Groaning,  you shuffled out of bed, dressed in a flannel shirt you stole from Dean and shorts.  Following the sound of Deanâs voice, you walked into the library.
âWhat are you going on about now?â You shouted over Dean, as he hadnât noticed you walk in.  âYou know we all got to bed very late, because you,â you rounded to Dean, pointing your finger at him, before continuing your rant,  "insisted we could get to the Bunker before night fell. Is it too much to ask that you keep it down?"
The room instantly fell silent, and all eyes rested on you. And thatâs when you realized Dean wasnât yelling at Sam, there was someone else in the room.
âWell, youâre a feisty one, arenât ya?â Â
You turned to your left to see a man with honey colored hair and a smirk on his face. You stared at him for a moment, your eyebrows furrowed. You knew him fromâŠ. somewhere. But you werenât sure where.
Sam looked between you two, before clearing his throat. âSorry about that Y/N, but as Dean said before, Gabriel, you canât just pop up uninvited.â
Gabriel? Gabriel⊠No bells were ringing, and you were still having a silent staring contest with him.
Gabriel turned to Dean, âDean-o, I couldnât give a damn if you wanted me here or not.â
Dean grumbled a few choice words before settling into a chair next to Sam. Â
Gabriel turned his attention back to you, looking you from head to toe before slowly dragging his eyes up to your own. âBecause I believe we havenât met,â he continued with a grin, shortening the distance between you with three steps.
âYeah, letâs keep it that way, angel boy,â Dean decided,  turning back to share a look with Sam.
âOh my god,â you whispered as it finally clicked. This Gabriel starred in many films, like sexy films. You suddenly thought back to all those nights in motels, watching Casa Erotica while the boys were out.  Oh god, this is awkward, do something, say something!
  âY/N? You okay?â
You blinked and glanced to Sam , who was gently shaking your shoulder.
âYeah, yeah, Iâm fine. Iâm just really tired.â
Meanwhile, Gabriel, who may have been reading through your mind, laughed out loud. âWait, youâve seen those? You watch porn? My day keeps getting better and better.â
Dean turned to Gabriel, âWhat the hell are you talking about now?â
Gabriel pointed to you, âI may not know her, but she definitely knows me.â
You flushed red, and avoided looking anyone in the eyes.
âY/N, what is he talking about?â Sam questioned.
You looked up at him, wishing this entire situation had never happened. âCasa Erotica,â you finally whispered.
Dean busted up at that point, throwing back his head, while Sam removed his hand from your shoulder and looked to floor, trying to think of something to say.
âJesus, Y/N, Casa Erotica?â Dean laughed, looking to you.
âWhatever Dean, you watch porn too!â You shouted at him.
âYeah, Iâll give you that, but not porn with Gabriel in it!â
âWoah, woah, woah, donât hate on my work,â Gabe cut in, âbased on some certain memories, Y/N here really enjoyed it.â He added with a wink.
âAnd thatâs my cue. I canât watch this anymore. Dean, letâs grab something to eat, â Sam shook his head and walked out of the library.
Dean looked between your embarrassed expression and Gabrielâs delighted one before following Sam out, still chuckling to himself.
You buried your head into your hands. âI think thatâs just about the most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to me, ever.â
"C'mon Sugar, no one should feel guilty about their pleasures," Gabriel replied, stepping closer to you and placing his hand on your shoulder.
You looked up from your hands to his whiskey colored eyes, trying to read the situation. Finally you groaned, âI do, is the problem, I feel guilty that Iâve seen you in rather compromising positions and I donât even know anything about you.â
Gabriel raised an eyebrow, âIf thatâs your only problem, thatâs an easy fix. We could start over if youâd like? Pretend this whole pornstar thing didnât happen,â he suggested. âAlthough I must say Iâm glad you liked it,â he added.
You flushed at the last comment, but nodded your head in agreement, âYeah, okay, letâs do that.â
Gabriel grinned and offered his hand to you, âWell in that case, my name is Gabriel.â
You took his extended hand and shook it, âAnd Iâm Y/N.â  You noticed that he held your hand a bit longer than normal. âSo tell me about yourself, Gabriel.â
âSugar, my lifeâs story would be nothing compared to yours. And you can call me Gabe,â he replied, waving off your question with his hand.
âOh I doubt that, I believe earlier Dean called you âangel boyâ,â you countered.
âNot just any old angel, sugar, Iâm an archangel,â he smirked, taking a small step closer to you.
You looked up into his eyes. âOh, I donât think Iâve met an archangel before,â you breathed out, the sudden proximity intoxicating.
âAre you saying Iâm your first?â He joked, and you flushed red, glancing down. He gently grabbed your chin, pulling you up to look at him. You trailed your eyes from his pink lips to his eyes, and without a second thought you leaned up and pressed your lips to his.
Gabriel surprised you by returning the kiss with a newfound vigor, as he moved his hands to your waist, tugging you closer. You smiled into his lips, and threaded your hands into his hair, tugging slightly. He moaned slightly as you tugged, and you took the opportunity to deepen the kiss.
You pulled away, out of breath, and looked up with half-lidded eyes to Gabriel. His mouth was slightly open, shocked or something else, you couldnât tell; however, his eyes were dark, lust-blown.
You kissed him again, this time it was hungrier, messier. You heard Gabe click his fingers together, and rush of wind followed. Surprised, you opened your eyes to find yourself in your bedroom. Grinning you walked over to your bed, pulling Gabe down on top of you, reaching up to capture his lips again.
His hands wandered down your body, landing on the waistband of your shorts, but he paused before pulling them down. He pulled away and looked at you.âAre you sure, sugar?â
You raised your eyebrows, âGabe, Iâve seen enough to know I want this,â you lifted and pressed your hips against his needily. âI want you,â you added lowly, unbuttoning and pulling off your shirt.
He chuckled to himself before complying and shimmying down your shorts and panties, and shedding himself of his own shirt. Smirking, he leant down and placed a short kiss on your lips, and when he pulled away you whined, but that turned into a moan when he planted his lips on your neck.
He trailed lower, stopping to lavish your breasts with wet kisses, before continuing down. He skipped to your inner thighs, before placing butterfly kisses up until he reached your slit. His breath fanned out, so close yet so far. You desperately bucked your hips, trying to get more contact.
Gabriel pulled back, a smug grin on his face, âSteady,â he chided, and placed his firm hands on your hips.
You breathly agreed, and threaded your fingers into his hair. In the next moment, Gabriel leaned down and pressed his tongue to your pussy. He hummed lowly as you gently tugged his honey locks, the sensations spurring you both on. You moaned as he slowly drew one of his hands away from your hip, and brought it down to play with your clit. You gripped his hair and grit your teeth as he worked you to the edge.
You open your mouth to warn him, but all that comes out are whimpers as his tongue swirls around your wet cunt. He lets out a pleased groan as you come, crying out and squirming beneath him.
Releasing your hips from his grip, he pulled himself up to your face, bracing himself on his forearms. You lean up, placing kisses to his collarbones, trailing up to his ear. "So are you going to take your pants off and fuck me, or what?"
And with another snap his pants were gone, and his lips were pressed aggressively to yours. Internally, you were priding yourself that you had managed to say anything at all. There was no doubt in your mind that Gabriel was the best you'd ever had. And you hadn't even gotten to the best part yet.
Gabriel was laughing slightly when he pulled away. "You think too loud," he explained.
âWell, are you going to prove my theory or just lay there?â
Gabriel narrowed his eyes at you, and with a low growl,  he pushed himself into you.
You cried out, your hands reaching out for something to anchor you, as he pumped in and out. Your hands found his sturdy shoulders, your nails digging into them.
Gabriel leaned his head down to the crook of your neck, placing kisses to your flushed skin. You moaned loudly as Gabriel trailed a hand down to press his thumb to your clit, the other threading into your hair and tugging.
The combination of his hot skin touching yours and his groans had you shivering with pleasure, crying out his name. Gabriel came soon after you, your name and a foreign language falling from his lips like a prayer.
Moments later, he moves next to you, throwing his arm around you. You cuddle up next to him, your hand tracing patterns on his chest. He looks at you and places a kiss to your forehead.
Without looking at him, you speak up, âYou know, the boys will be out for a little while longer, Dean hasnât eaten in at least 12 hours.â
Gabriel laughed, âThen I suggest you prepare yourself for round 2, sugar.â

According to legend, a long, long time ago, in the land of Asgard, lived a boy. Â Now, this was not just any boy. Â Rather, he was the son of a god and goddess. Â This boy lived with his mother and father in this magical land. Â He grew up brave and strong. Â When the boy was grown, he was said to be so beautiful and amazing that he actually gave off a glow. Â He was loved by one and all.
Well, all except one.
When the boy began to have dreams of his death, his mother went to everything, great and small, and procured a promise that they would never harm her son. Â From the birds that flew overhead, to the trees of the forest, everything promised to bring no harm to the boy.
Well, all except one.
The boyâs mother neglected to garner a vow from the mistletoe plant, believing it too small to ever be able to cause anyone problems. Â When Loki learned of her oversight, he crafted a spear from the mistletoe plant. Â He convinced a blind god to test the boyâs immortality. Â For surely, nothing could harm him. Â This god, not knowing what the spear was made of, threw it at the boy.
The boy died.

It had taken you four months find all the ingredients to complete the summoning. Â Four long months since Sam had given you the news of Gabrielâs death through a phone call. Â Four months of waking up alone after sobbing yourself to sleep. Â Four months of barely eating, your appetite having completely deserted you. Â Four months of devoting yourself to researching exactly what youâd need to summon the goddess who might be your only means of getting back the angel you loved.
You watched the flame from the candle eat up the parchment in your hand. Â When the heat began to lick at your fingers, you tossed the paper into the cauldron.
â______.â
âKali.â
âWhy have you summoned me, huntress?â One of the goddessâs perfectly arched eyebrows lifted.
âTo right a wrong.â You were not going to be intimidated, at least, not on the outside. Â Inside, you were terrified six ways to Sunday, but you refused to let it show.
âAnd what is your perceived wrong?â The corner of her mouth lifted into a smirk.
âYou know the wrong Iâm talking about, Kali.â The hunter in you hated to address her with reverence. Â But that was only hurting your chances of getting her help. Â You tried to keep from panicking at the thought of her refusing to do this.
âIâm afraid I donât, human,â she folded her arms across her chest, a hint of humor in her eyes, âbut feel free to enlighten me.â
Your pride would have to take a back seat if you ever wanted him back. âLoki.â
âWho?â
âLoki. Â Trickster. Â Whatever the hell you know him as.â
âAh, you mean Gabriel.â
You couldnât mask your look of shock quickly enough.
âWhat? Â You think an archangel could hide his true identity from me?â She scoffed. Â âYou forget, ______, he was mine long before he was yours.â
âThatâs great and all, but I donât feel like going all âJerry Springerâ here.â You tamped down your jealousy. Â âGabriel didnât deserve to die. Â I need your help getting him back.â
âWhat makes you think Iâll help you?â
âBecause thatâs what you doâright wrongs and shit.â Â You paused. Â âYou can do this, right?â
âYou misunderstand. Â I am capable of completing this task. Â What makes you think I will?â
Fuck. Â âKali, please.â Â You searched your thoughts, frantically. Â âI brought this to you because youâre the only one powerful enough to do this.â Â Maybe playing to her ego would help persuade her.
âTrue.â Her smile unnerved you. Â âWhat will you give me in exchange?â
âWhat do you want?â
âRetribution.â
âWhat?â Now it was your turn to cock an eyebrow.
She ignored your question. Â âIs it a deal?â
Your hunter instincts screamed that this was a bad idea. Â A horrible, awful, bad idea. Â Only idiots made deals with supernatural creatures.
Still, you found yourself nodding. Â You finally understood why Dean made that crossroads deal. Â If it meant getting Gabriel back with you, what did it matter how you did it?
âI will just need a small sample of his blood.â
You began to reach for the tiny vial heâd given you to summon him in case you ever found yourself in serious trouble and he wasnât with you. Â Heâd meant it to be used if you were in danger, but that didnât matter anymore. Â He wasnât with you, and that was more than enough reason to use his blood.
Surprisingly, she waved you off. Â She held out her palm and a smearing of red blossomed on her fingertips as she began to chant. The ground beneath your feet began to shake as her volume increased. Â Her body began to glow and you could just make out the two extra arms, as well as her third eye.
A flash of light had you squeezing your eyes shut. Â Then everything stopped. Â The ground stopped shaking, the glow had vanished, and her chanting had faded out. Â You opened your eyes to see Gabriel sprawled out on the ground, the outline of his wings charred onto the floor. Â
You couldnât breathe.
Until he bolted upright, gasping in a lungful of air.
Tears had been falling from your eyes, but you hadnât realized it until you locked eyes with the archangel. Â Seeing him looking completely confused and utterly adorable had you grinning. Â Your grin was contagious, as he returned your smile, pushing himself up to his feet. Â God, looking at himâhe was sunshine and happiness and everything youâd missed these last four dark months. Â It was as if your heart finally started beating again.
âIâve missed you, so much.â It was the only thing you could think to say.
He pulled you to him, crushing his lips against yours. Â He still tasted like chocolate.
âIâd say I missed you, too.â He pulled back. âBut Iâve been dead.â Â You immediately balled your fist and punched his shoulder.
âThat is not funny,â you choked out, bunching the front of his shirt in your other hand. Â âYou left me alone. Â I spent fourâfour months,â you started crying, âDo youâdo you have any ideaâI didnât want to keep going.â
â______, donât talk like that.â He cupped your face and wiped your tears away with his thumbs.
â______.â Â Shit! Â Kali was right behind you.
âWe are done here, Kali.â Â Gabriel pulled you so that he was standing between you and the goddess.
âIâm afraid not, Gabriel.â Â Kali taunted. Â âShe must hold up her end of the bargain.â
âBargain?â Â Gabriel spun around to face you. Â âYou made a deal?â
âYes.â Â You nodded. Â âAnd she did her part, so itâs time for me to do mine.â Â You werenât going to apologize. Â You peered around Gabriel. Â âWhat do you want me to do?â
âYou donât get to have her, Kali.â
âShe made a deal.â
âCall it off.â Gabriel snapped.
âNo!â Â What the hell was he saying? Â âIf she calls it off, youâre dead.â
He grabbed your shoulders, as if trying to shake sense into you. âIf this ends badly, youâre dead!â
âI canâtâI canât do this without you, Gabriel!â
âWhat makes you think I want to do this without you, ______?â Â His eyes were wide with fear and anger.
Kali ignored both of you. Â âBaldur. Â His soul rests with Hel.â
âYou mean in hell, right?â
She rolled her eyes. Â âWith, you stupid human. Â With. Â You might know Hel as Death.â Â She looked at Gabriel. Â âHonestly, I do not know what you see in her.â
âEnd the deal now, Kali.â Â Gabriel held up his hand.
âOr what? Â Youâll destroy me?â Â She laughed. Â âI think youâll find your powers have diminished immensely, Loki.â
He snapped his fingers. Â Nothing happened.
âI was able to resurrect you, yes. Â But not as an archangel.â Â Her lips twisted as if sheâd tasted something unpleasant. Â âNot even I have the ability to give you your complete powers back.â
âFuck! Â What the fuck possessed you to make a deal?â Gabriel growled at you. Â âHow could you think Iâm worth making a deal over?â
âHow are you not worth making a deal over, Gabriel?â Â
Heâd been your life for almost two years. Â You loved him with every fiber of your being. Â Nothing was worth losing him.
You watched as a sense of wonder and amazement filled his eyes. Â
He pressed a hard kiss to your lips. Â âWe do this together.â Â He turned to face Kali. Â âWeâll retrieve Baldur.â
âIf you fail,â Kali directed her statement to you, âYou belong to me. Â You have 48 hours.â
***
You waited anxiously as Gabriel finished the summoning. Â This could be it. Â Once you got Death to release Baldur, you were in the clear. Â Free to be with Gabriel forever.
âI do hope you have a reason for summoning me.â Â A slender, pale man stood before you, dressed in a black suit, and staring at both you and Gabriel, rather crossly. Â âGabriel.â
âUm, yeah.â
Gabrielâs sudden nervousness caught you off-guard.  Still, you had a reason for summoning him.  âDeath, uhâŠâ you began.
âWait your turn.â Death glared at you before turning his attention solely onto Gabriel. Â âI ought to end you right now, for all the trouble youâve caused me. Â Although it does delight me to see that youâre not at full capacity.â
Oh shit. Â Terror began to creep up your spine.
âLook, if this is about me pretending to be deadââ
âWhat else would I be upset with you about, boy?â Â Death rolled his eyes. Â âWould you kindly tell me why youâve summoned me? Â I have more important things to do with my time than to waste it on a protozoan and an infantile angel.â
âUm, sirâwe are here on behalf of Kali.â Â You tried to sound more confident than you felt, but even you could hear the fear in your voice. Â This wasnât just some random monsterâthis was Death-capital D and all. Â âSheâs requested that we retrieve Baldur from you.â
âAnd why isnât she here, asking me herself?â Â Death cocked an eyebrow.
âIâuhâI donât know, sir.â
Death turned back to Gabriel. Â âJust like old times, Loki. Â This is the second time someone has asked me to turn over that arrogant little worm to them. Â Although, I must admit, Iâm surprised that youâre the one asking for him. Â If I recall, you were the reason I had him last time.â
âWhat?â Â You looked at Gabriel who only shrugged helplessly. Â âLook, uh, sirânot to be rude or anythingââ
âA bit late for that.â
âWe just need Baldur.â
âAnd why should I just hand over Baldur to you?â
âIâuhâshit. Â I donât know.â
Death sighed as if just speaking to you was taxing on him. Â âBring me mistletoe and I will release Baldur.â
âSeriously? Â Just mistletoe? Â Thatâll be eaââ
âBring me the mistletoe that once pierced Baldur and sent him to me the first time.â
âHow the hell are we supposed to do that?â Gabriel snapped. Â âItâs not like the mistletoe was preserved or anything.â
âWhy must they always be so petulant?â Death shook his head, annoyed. Â âFrigg kept the mistletoe that took her son from her. Â Bring me that mistletoe and I will give you Baldur.â Â
And just like that, Death was gone.
âThere has to be another way!â Â Gabriel shouted at the empty space Death had occupied. Â âShit, ______.â He turned to you, his face ashen. Â âThereâs no way sheâs going to give that up to me.â
Your tried to reign in your thoughts. Â This was it. Â Youâd failed before you even got started. Â You were going to die. Â But, at least youâd gotten Gabriel back for a little while. Â Maybe that could be enough.
Gabriel grabbed you by the shoulders. Â âI am not letting you die, do you understand me?â
âHow?â Â You felt tears sliding down your face. Â Who were you kidding? Â Forever would never be enough with Gabriel. Â âGabriel, Iââ
âYou! Â Sheâll give it to you!â He sounded near hysterical. Â âIâll take you to Frigg and sheâll give you the mistletoe.â
âPlease, Gabriel, donâtââ
âNo!â The venom in his voice startled you. Â âLook, Iâm still Lokiâsort of. Â Iâll take you to Frigg as Idun, and sheâll give you the mistletoe.â
âWhat?â
âJust trust me.â Â He kissed you, his desperation pouring out through his embrace. Â âIâm not letting Kali have you.â
Deep in your heart, you knew he was grasping at straws. Â Still, you found yourself nodding. Â âOK.â
***
Gabriel had given you a crash course in Norse gods and goddesses.  Apparently, during his time as Loki, heâd already killed Baldur once.  Or, rather, heâd tricked another god to kill him with mistletoe.  It was all a big mess.  And he was going to have you masquerading as some goddess heâd kidnapped after heâd tricked her into some marriage andâŠyeah.  None of it made much sense, but you figured it didnât have to.
Still, nothing could have prepared you for the grandiose setting you found yourself in. Â Â Asgard was indescribable.
âLoki.â
Something about how she said his name made you want to run. Â Sheâd know this was all a ruse and sheâd kill you before you could even speak.
âFrigg.â Â There was definitely no love lost between the two of them.
âAnd this, Idun, of what business do you have with this trickster?â Â
Holy shit. Â Gabriel had told you he could have Frigg believing you were this goddess, but youâd been skeptical. Â How in the world had he managed this?
You bowed your head, just as Gabriel had told you to do. Â âI have come with newsâyour son, Baldur, has fallen to Hel once more.â
âYou have taken my son from me again?â Â The womanâs entire body began to glow. Â Shitâshe was going to kill both of you.
âActually, Frigg, it was Lucifer who took Baldur from you this time.â Â You bit your lip to keep it from trembling. Â Where the hell had your brave hunter-side gone?
âLuciferâthe angel?â
âCutting to the chase, Friggâwe have a way to get Baldur back. Â We just need the mistletoe he was stabbed with the first time around.â Â Gabriel stepped in, saving you from having to get all that out.
âMistletoe? Â The mistletoe you so painstakingly carved into a spear to end my sonâs lifeâthat mistletoe?â
âHel gave us his word that he will deliver Baldur the moment we have given him that particular bit of mistletoe.â Â You needed to suck it up and put your game face on. Â Lives were at stakeânamely, your own, and possibly Gabrielâs. Â âSo, we have come for it.â
âWhy?â
âTo bring your son back?â Â What part of this was she not getting.
âWhy are you so interested in bringing my son back, human?â
Fuck. Â Fucking fuck. Â You glanced at Gabriel in fear before turning back to the goddess. Â âLook, your majestyâIâm just here because I want to fix this. Â Baldur shouldnât be dead, but neither should Gabriel, and Iâm just trying to make it so everyone is OK.â Â *Please donât let her kill me*
The goddess snapped her fingers and a deadly looking spear, covered in mistletoe, now rested in your hands.
âYou will take this, and you will retrieve my son, and neither of you will set foot in Asgard again.â
âFriggââ Gabrielâs voice was gone. Â Howâ?
âIf either of you step into Asgard, I will find you. Â And I will kill you. Â Do you understand?â
You nodded. Â Gabriel glared daggers at the woman.
âAre you aware of my powers, human?â
âYou can see everyoneâs destiny.â Â And rob Gabriel of his voice.
âYou have informed her well, Loki.â Â There was still disdain in her voice. Â âI never reveal destinies, but I will tell you this.â She looked on you with a sort of pity. Â âBeware of your connection with this trickster. Â He has been the downfall of many, and he will be yours as well.â
âWhat theââ
In the next instant, you were back inside the warehouse where youâd originally summoned Kali.
ââfuck is that supposed to mean?â
âWe will get this all straightened out, ______. Â I promise.â Â Gabriel had his voice back. Â He took the spear from your hands and set it aside. Â âIâm not letting anything happen to you.â He pulled you into his arms. âEven if I have to bind Death, myself.â
âI do hope it wonât come to that.â Â Death appeared before you, causing you to jump.
Seriously, why couldnât anyone announce they were coming?
âAnd what would the fun in that be?â Â Death sighed. Â âIâm afraid I cannot accept this mistletoe.â
âWhat?â Â You looked over in horror. Â âBut we went to Asgard and Frigg gave it to me!â
Death turned to Gabriel, the spear in his hands. Â âIâm surprised you donât recognize that this isnât your handiwork.â
Gabriel took the spear from Death and examined it. Â âShit!â Â And he disappeared. Â A second later, he was back. Â âI canâtâI canât get in.â Â He looked you in the eye and you finally noticed the hope that had been there since heâd first re-awoken had started to die out.
âSince you have nothing for me, I will be keeping Baldur.â Â Death was gone again.
âIâll talk to Kali again,â Gabriel reasoned quickly, trying to come up with any possible way to save you. Â âYou tried. Â That has to count for something.â
âGabriel,â you bit your lip, willing your poker-face to stay intact. Â âMaybe itâs time we face facts. Â We failed.â Â Your strong facade began to break and your bottom lip began to tremble.
âNO!â Â This time, he actually did shake you. Â âIâm not losing you. Â Do you understand that? Â I canât do this without you.â
âSweetheart,â you were crying again as you reached up and cupped his face in your hand. Â âYou did this without me for eons. Â One little blip in time isnât going to make that huge of a difference.â
He took your hand from his face and placed it against his chest. Â âDo you feel this? Â This thing beats because of you, for you. Â I love you, ______. Â Kali isnât taking you from me.â
âThat was almost beautiful.â Â Both you and Gabriel jumped at the sound of Kaliâs voice. Â âAnd yes, I must commend you for trying. Â However, the deal was for Baldur, not for effort.â Â She raised her hand towards you.
âKali, donât do this. Â Please.â Â Gabriel stepped between you and Kali.
You felt a sudden stab of pain in your stomach and you doubled over. Â Fuck, nothing had ever hurt this bad. Â It was as if a fire had started in your gut and was trying to burn you, from the inside, out.
â______!â Gabriel was at your side, holding you. Â âStop it, now!â Â He turned his attention completely to you. Â â______, Iââ
âI suppose youâre wondering how it is that I came to be in possession of the archangelâs blood.â Kaliâs voice had both you and Gabriel turning your attention to her. Â
It took a moment for your brain to stop focusing on your pain and to register what she was saying. Â Yeah, it had been curious that she hadnât needed Gabrielâs blood from you. But that hadnât exactly crossed your mind since heâd been back. Â Why was she bringing this up now?
âAs he was with me shortly before he met his demise, I felt it would be wiseâas one never knows when theyâll need an archangelâs blood.â
âKaliââ Gabriel began.
âWith?â you coughed out and blood spilled from your lips. Â
â______, babyââ
âI believe you asked me to go to Pandora with you, right, Gabriel?â
You watched as the angel paled, confirming everything Kali was saying.
You closed your eyes, not wanting to see anymore. Â Wasnât it enough that she was killing you? Â Did she have to break your heart as well?
Gabriel had told you about his previous relationship with the beautiful goddess. Â Heâd said he had once believed heâd been in love with her. Â Of course, heâd also said that heâd been wrong, that what heâd felt for you made him realize heâd never actually been in love with Kali.
But heâd been with her just before heâd died. Â Heâd told you he had to go help rescue Sam and Dean. Â But instead, heâd been with Kali. Â Sheâd gotten some of his blood. Â And heâd offered to whisk her away to Pandora instead of trying to save humanity like heâd promised you he would.
âIââ You felt a dull ache in your head, accompanying the unbearable pain in your stomach, just before several images popped into your mind. Â Kali wearing practically nothing. Gabriel holding a red rose. A heated embrace. Gabriel helping Kali to her feet while shielding her from Luciferâs wrath, archangel blade at the ready. Â Your fingers went to your temple, unsure of which part of you was hurting worse.
âSweetheart, listen, whatever sheâs showing youâ.â Gabriel took your hand in his and it took everything in you not to jerk back from his touch.
âI, umâI think I shouldâŠâ  You pulled free of his grasp and backed away. Â
You didnât make it very far before you collapsed from the pain. Â How could everything hurt so completely? Â Gabriel had led you to believe your love for him was reciprocated. Â And here you were, dying because of it.
â______, please!â Gabriel pulled you into his arms, cradling you to him. Â You closed your eyes, unable to look at him without feeling your heart break even more. Â âPlease, sweetheartâI needed to get back Sam and Deanâs blood. Â She bound them to her and Lucifer was coming. Â I was trying to save them.â
âGabriel, really, itâs OK.â Actually, it was anything but OK. Â You opened your eyes, but kept your gaze from landing on his face. Â âIf you loâifâ,â you sucked in a deep breath even as another wave of pain washed over you. âIf youâre in love with her, sheâs the one you need to be with.â Â Your own words cut at you.
âDo you really think you werenât the only thing I was thinking of while I was staring my brother down?â He reached out and lifted your chin with his fingers. Â The look of panic on his face was breaking your heart all over again. Â âDean may have been the one who called me out on being afraid to stand up to my brothers, but youâyou are the one who gave me a reason to believe I could stand up to them.â
âGabrielââ Â An incredible weight had set itself on your chest, making it impossible to draw in another breath.
âDonât you fucking die on me, ______. Â You fight whatever sheâs doing to you.â Â He tore his gaze away from you to glare at Kali. Â âPlease, Kaliâtake me, donât do this. Â Take me instead, please!â Â
âIâm sorry, Gabriel, but a deal is a deal.â Â She closed her fist.
You were able to take in one more gulp of air, and then everything got dark, fast. Â The last thing you saw was Gabriel, tears flowing freely, screaming at you to wake up.
***
Kali disappeared as soon as the last bit of life left your body.
Gabriel clung to you, calling on any power he had left to try and revive you, but to no avail. Â You were gone.
Blinded by rage and guilt and a slew of other emotions he didnât have a name for, Gabriel took off for Heaven. Â He no longer had the power of an archangel, but he wasnât about to let that keep him from you.
***
âGabriel, you are alive?â Â Hannah was the first of his angelic siblings to greet him as he began his frantic search. Â âBut you died!â
âWhere is she?â
âWhere is who, brother? Â And why do you no longer have the power of an archangel?â
â______! Â Where is her heaven?â Â He didnât have time for dealing with anything other than finding you.
âIâI do not know.â Hannah was puzzled and a bit taken aback by Gabrielâs behavior. Â âPerhaps it is writtenââ
âSheâs new. Â Not even an hour, Earth-time. Â Where would I find her?â
âThereâs an infinite number of places she could be.â
Growling, he took off, desperate to find you. Â You had just sacrificed your life to save himâsomething no one else had ever done for him before. Â You had given him a home free of judgement and had given him love without expectation. Â This was the kind of love his Father had wanted for all his creations. Â There was no way he was letting something as simple as death keep him from having itâfrom being with you.
***
Finally, Gabriel made it through the entirety of Heaven. Â Heâd never done that before, and found himself getting weary with every passing moment that he couldnât find you. Â He wasnât even sure how long it had been, on Earth, since youâd died in his arms. Â But still, he couldnât locate you.
***
âAlright, Death,â Gabriel finished the summoning and waited for the old man to appear.
âYou are looking ghastly,â Death said as he manifested in the room with Gabriel.
Gabriel could admit, even he thought heâd looked better. Â The search had taken its toll on him and his vessel had aged with each new heaven he encountered that wasnât yours. Â Instead of the vibrant archangel heâd once been, his eyes had bags under them, his frame had shrunken, and his skin had become so pale. Â But that didnât matter now.
âWhere is she?â
âWhere is who?â Â Death absently picked at his nails.
â______, you bastard. Â Where is she?â Â He grabbed Death by the lapels of his coat.
Death simply rolled his eyes and brushed Gabriel off of him. Â âI believe you will find her in Hell.â
âWhat?â Â If it was possible, Gabriel paled further. Â âNoâthereâs no way sheâd wind up in Hell. Â She didnât make a deal with a demon, she made it with Kali!â
âYou, more than most, know itâs always a bad idea to make a deal with anything supernatural.â Â Deathâs lips twitched. Â âPity you didnât pass that information on to her.â
Before Death had the chance to disappear, Gabriel, in hysterics, grabbed him once more. Â âYou donât understand. Â She died for me. Â No one has ever loved me enough to do that. Â I canât just let her stay in Hell.â
âThereâs nothing I can do about that.â
âThenâthen letâs trade. Â Let me give you my life. Â My soul for hers.â Â He couldnât leave you down there. Â Just the thought of you being there felt like a vice-grip on his heart.
âYou donât have a soul.â
âThen my grace. Â Please, anything. Â Anything I have is yours. Â Justâjust give her back to me, please.â
âIâm in deliveries. Â Not returns.â Â Death brushed him off once more. Â âIf you want her back, youâll have to retrieve her yourself.â
âBut I canâtââ
Death vanished.
ââdo that anymore!â Â
In anger, Gabriel punched the wall closest to him. Â As expected, he didnât feel it, but he wished he could. Â Maybe it would detract even a fraction of how awful he felt.
Youâd given up your life for him. Â Youâd given up your life and your place in Heaven to save him. Â He still struggled to wrap his brain around that. Â How could anyone find him worthy of such a sacrifice? Â Even when heâd died on the floor of that hotel conference room, heâd done it to save humankind. Â Yes, youâd been on his mind and in his heart when that angel blade had pierced him. But what, exactly, had he done to deserve your selflessness?
***
Gabriel struggled with every bit of his being not to be consumed by the darkness that surrounded him. Â The wrongness of what he was doing clung to him like a second skinâangels didnât belong in Hell. Â But then again, neither did you.
âThere is an angel among demons.â One of the demons sneered at him before lashing out with a dagger.
In a matter of moments, Gabriel had the demon pinned and shoved its own blade through its skull. Â âWhere is ______?â he bellowed at the demons surrounding him.
Instead of answering, the demons began to move towards him, drawing closer and closer, weapons at the ready.
With a bright flare of grace, Gabriel decimated the majority of the group. Â Gabriel cornered the remaining few. Â âWhere is she?â
âShe is one of us. Â We will not lose another.â Â The demons gnashed their teeth at him. Â âWe will bury you, angel.â
Gabriel screamed out in anger before dropping his angel blade from his sleeve and slaying the demons heâd cornered.
***
He lost track of time and of the number of demons he killed trying to find you. Â The despair seeped into his lungs, tore at his wings, ate at his grace. Â There was no hope left to give of finding you. Â Still, he kept up the search. Â It was as if Hell had reprogrammed him, and all he knew how to do was look for you.
It wasnât until he felt a pull on the last shreds of grace that he realized heâd found you. Â Your soul was dark, nasty with hate and vile, but somehow, he was able to recognize you.
â______!â
âAngel.â You hissed, drawing a weapon. Â Dark thoughts flooded through you and you longed to sink your blade into the angel. Â Wanted to feel his blood running through your fingertips. Â Wanted to watch the grace burn out of him when you twisted your knife deeper.
âI found you.â
âCongratulations.â Â You swung out, catching him off guard and slicing into his forearm.
âWhat the hell?â Â He jerked back, cradling his injured arm. Â â______, Iâm here to take you home.â
âYou overestimate me, angel. Â I am home.â Â How dare this creature presume anything about you? Â You swung again, but he dodged you.
â______, please. Â Let me get you out of here.â Â He reached for you and you took advantage of his movements, striking him in the shoulder. Â âFuck!â
âYou do not belong here.â
âNeither do you.â Â This time, he was quicker than you, and two fingers were pressed to your forehead.
Nothing happened.
âYouâre too late, angel. Â Whatever was left of my soul has long-since burned out.â Â His expression fueled your desire to hurt him. Â You lashed out, bringing your blade down against his wing.
The sound Gabriel released shook all the way down to the remaining pieces of you still left. Â The complete anguish that ripped from him began to mend you. Â For the first time in what felt like ages, it was like you were able to open your eyes after years of sleeping.
âGabriel?â Â Your weapon clattered to the ground. Â âOh my god, Gabriel!â Â You were both overjoyed and mortified to see what youâd done to your angel.
â______?â He gritted his teeth in pain, but you could still see the faint traces of relief at the corners of his mouth. Â
âOh, Gabriel.â Â You could feel your soul begin to put yourself back together again. Â You started crying as you took in the bloody and broken angel in front of you. Â âHow did you get here?â
He shrugged the shoulder you hadnât stabbed. Â âCouldnât just leave you here.â
You wanted to take him into your arms and offer him any sort of comfort. Â Heâd come all this way, just for you. Â He loved you that muchâto travel through the depths of Hell to find you.
But now was not the time for love and comfort. Â The darkness that had encompassed you for years crept up around you and the angel. Â âYou shouldnât have come, Gabriel.â Â You wiped your eyes and picked up your blade. Â âIt already had me. Â Now it will get you as well.â You took your stance, ready to hold it at bay so Gabriel could make his escape. Â âGo, before itâs too late for you.â
His angel blade dropped to his hand and he gingerly took your free hand in his wounded one. Â âIf it takes you, then it will take me as well.â

"The threat must be eradicated as swiftly as possible."
Balthazar rolled his eyes at the angel in front of him. Â Humans with an angel blade wasn't anything to rejoice over, but even a fledgling would know that these humans harming angels with said blade would be a huge problem that needed to be taken care of.
"I've got it." He responded with little concern. It wasn't that he wasn't worried--he just hated that his brother seemed to think he was too thick to understand.
"It is of utmost importance that you proceed with caution."
"Really? Because it's not like five wounded angels is a big deal or anything."
"Brother, I am not sure you are taking this matter as seriously as you should."
"No, I think I am. I think it's you, standing here, insulting my intelligence, who is not taking this the right way."
"Balthazar, I was the one who gave the orders." Michael was suddenly in front of him, and Balthazar and the other angel immediately bowed their heads, showing reverence. "I do not want any more of our brothers and sisters to fall victim to these humans. It is important that we handle this matter as swiftly and efficiently as possible so as not to cause any more concern than absolutely necessary."
"Right." Balthazar sighed. He missed serving under Gabriel's command--at least that archangel knew how to have fun.
"Make sure that you stay safe. It would do Heaven no good to have more incapacitated soldiers.â
With that, Michael was gone.
âLove you, too, brother.â Balthazar griped, rolling his eyes, yet again. Â âWhat I donât understand is...if Michael has sent other angels after these humans already, why am I the only one being sent out? Â Why not just wipe these bugs off the planet and be done with it?â
âMichael wants you to handle it because you are the best candidate for infiltrating their ranks. Â The others who have been sent were detected immediately as angels and are now being treated for their injuries.â
âGreat. Â So when they skewer me, I hope Michael has at least a few kind words to say to commemorate me.â
The other angel nodded. Â âGodspeed.â Â And was gone.
âSeriously?â
You felt the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Â Someone was following you. Â Instinctively, you reached into your jacket and wrapped your fingers around the hilt of the blade you kept there. Â You kept your other hand loose, ready to snatch your gun out of its holster if thatâs what the threat required.
âHello?â
The accent threw you and you hesitated a moment before ducking completely into the shadows. Â Once you knew you could do so without being seen, you turned and waited, watching as a man cautiously stepped closer to where you were hiding.
âHello? Â Did someone come this way?â The idiot called out into the night. Â âLook, Iâm just trying to find my way back to the interstate. Â I thought I saw someone coming this way...and now Iâm pretty sure Iâm just shouting at nothing. Â So if thereâs someone out there, could you please at least acknowledge me so I donât feel like a complete imbecile?â
It felt like several minutes passed before he finally gave up and headed back the way he came. Â You followed him, making sure to stay hidden, as he made his way back to the road. Â There sat a rather expensive looking vehicle--or, rather, what had been an expensive looking vehicle. Â
The glow from the closest streetlight showed that the two tires in your view had been slashed. Â The driverâs window had been smashed in and the paint job had been etched into. Â
âDamn it!â The man ran the last few steps to his car, spewing a stream of profanity as he circled around it, taking in all of the damage. Â âI was gone for five fucking minutes!â
Sighing, you stepped out of the shadows. Â âLooks like you left your car in the wrong spot.â
The man jumped at the sound of your voice, and it helped to ease your suspicions. Â Creatures could hear you coming. Â And demons and angels simply sensed your presence. Â So this guy had to be human.
âI knew I saw someone!â He whipped around and you could see the rage in his features. Â âWhy wouldnât you answer me? Â I could have been back to my car and these--these hooligans wouldnât have had time to damage it!â
âYou really think Iâm just going to let some strange guy with an accent get the jump on me?â You glared at him, keeping track of his every movement. Â Just because he wasnât a supernatural being didnât mean he wasnât a threat. Â âItâs bad enough, having to walk by myself in the dark. Â How was I supposed to know you werenât going to hurt me?â
His rage faded into something akin to sympathy. Â âAnd yet, you decided to come out now?â
âWell,â you looked down at his broken car before shrugging. Â âYou seem to be having a bit of bad luck, what with getting lost and then this. Â I figure, if you did try to attack me, youâd probably trip over your own feet.â
He barked out a sardonic laugh. Â âThatâs probably true.â He looked back over his car and groaned. Â âWhat am I supposed to do now?â
âCall a taxi?â
âYes, and Iâm sure your taxi drivers here take euros.â Â He ran his hand through his hair. Â âI should have known not to max out my credit on this worthless piece of junk.â He kicked the closest flattened tire.
âProbably would have been smart.â You nodded.
âI need to call the sheriff and the insurance company.â Â He reached into his pocket before frantically patting down his jacket and pants. Â âShit!â Â He leaned through the busted window and glanced around the car. Â âShit shit shit!â
âHere.â You pulled out your own cell phone and handed it to him.
He nodded his thanks as he began punching in numbers. Â He held the phone to his ear and frowned. Â âForgive my ignorance, but what is the emergency number here?â
â9-1-1.â You couldnât help but smile.
You werenât sure what made you stay through the police reports and the tow truck, but you did, sitting on the curb, watching the fluster of activity that had nearby residents poking their heads out of their windows to see what all the excitement was about.
âNo one saw anything!â He flopped down on the curb next to you, frustration radiating off in every direction.
âItâs the middle of the night. Â Not many people out and about now, unless theyâre up to no good.â
âYouâre out and about.â He pointed out, cocking an eyebrow.
âTrue.â You shrugged. Â âSo are you.â
âI was just looking for help.â
âMaybe I was just trying to get home.â
He studied you for a moment. Â âSo you live around here?â
âNo.â You shook your head. Â âJust passing through town. Â I was on my way back to my motel room, though.â
âWell, thank you for helping me out...eventually. Â Iâd offer you a ride to your motel, but, uh...yeah.â
âIâm good.â You smiled.
âDonât suppose youâd be alright with me following you back to your motel, would you?â
âWhy?â
âWell, I was supposed to make it to Boise tonight, but it doesnât look like thatâs going to happen. Â And sleeping right here doesnât seem preferable.â
âHow are you going to rent a room if all you have is euros?â
His face fell. Â âYou think maybe theyâll take pity on a lost boy so far from home?â
This had you laughing. Â âYou can always try.â
On the way to the motel, you both introduced yourselves properly. Â You learned his name was Ian and that you liked the way your name sounded in his accent. Â When you finally made it back, you left him to fend for himself with the clerk and headed to your own room.
âWhat a freaking night.â You sighed as you got ready for bed. Â You tucked your blade and your gun away, but still within easy reach.
Just before you crawled onto the less-than-comfortable mattress, there was a knock on your door. Â You grabbed your gun and edged cautiously towards the door. Â Looking through the peep-hole, you noticed it was Ian standing on the other side.
âJust a sec!â You hurried back to hide your gun before opening the door. Â âDâyou get a room?â
âYes. Â Iâm right next door to you. Â I hope you donât mind--I asked the young man at the desk which room you were in. Â Itâs always nice to see a familiar face in the morning.â
âLook, Ian--Iâm only in town until I finish the job Iâm currently on. Â And youâre off to Boise. Â I donât want you to get the wrong idea--I donât do friends.â
âEverybody needs friends.â
He looked so damned earnest that you almost wanted to believe him.
âSorry, bucko. Â It doesnât work like that. Â Not for me.â Â You started to close the door but he put his foot out to block it. Â âLook, I donât know what you want, but whatever it is, you wonât find it here.â
âJust breakfast. Â Thatâs all. Â Iâll have my cousin wire me some money and Iâll even pay.â
You were about to decline when your stomach began to rumble. Â Apparently, the mention of food reminded your body that it had been a few hours since your last meal, and it would be at least another twenty-four hours before you could collect payment and eat again.
âFine. Â But after that, you go your way, and I go mine.â
âSounds perfect.â
Breakfast the next morning went as well as could be expected. Â You ate, let Ian do most of the talking, shot him down anytime he tried to flirt with you...it wasnât terrible, just a little too close to normal for your tastes. Â Your life hadnât been normal for a long time. Â And it wasnât going to be all apple pies and white-picket fences after one meal.
When Ian bid you adieu--literally, you went back to your motel and got to work.Â
A fellow hunter had called you last week to see if you could take care of a rogue vampire here. Â Usually, one vampire wouldnât be too much trouble for any hunter with experience, but some of the happenings in the area had you worried. Â If it was just a vampire, it wouldnât explain the reports of sulfur saturating the air whenever a body was found. Â Something demonic was happening, and you needed to figure out what.
You didnât leave your motel room until after eleven that evening. Â According to the reports youâd read, the kills happened at night, so youâd waited. Â Then youâd packed up your blade and your gun and headed to the location of the last death. Â Hopefully, with Ian long gone, you wouldnât be interrupted again.
âMother fucker.â Of course--right in the middle of an intersection. Â âAlright, you little blood-sucker. Â Time to come out and play.â
âYou know, most hunters--smart hunters--they actually hunt. Â They donât go right into the devilâs lair.â
The air filled with the smell of sulfur. Â Your hands immediately went to your blade and your gun, drawing both of them out. Â The vampireâs eyes widened and he began to back away from you.
âWhy must you always--what is this?â Â The newly manifested demon took one look at you and turned to glare at the vampire. Â âYou summon me to fight a human with an angel blade?!?!â Â He advanced on the vampire. Â âDo you have any idea how deadly those things are to my kind?â
âI--I didnât--â The vampire stuttered and held his hands up in submission.
The demon groaned before snapping his fingers, completely disintegrating the vampire. Â âRight. Â Well, Iâll be off then.â
Before he could disappear, you pulled the trigger of your gun, the bullet hit him square in the chest. Â
âOK, now youâve just gone and pissed me off.â Â The demon snapped his fingers again, but nothing happened. Â He stared at his hand for a moment and tried snapping again. Â Still nothing.
âDemon trap etched on the bullet.â Â Your lips slid into a sly smile. Â You needed to remember to thank those hunter-brothers the next time you ran into them for passing this idea on to you.
âDamn it!â
You advanced on the demon and had your blade ready to strike--
â______!â
Ianâs voice distracted you just enough that you were suddenly tumbling backwards, thanks to the punch the demon had landed on your cheek.
âFuck!â Â You looked up to see the demon grinning at you. Â You shook off the dizziness that had accompanied the blow and pushed yourself up from the ground. Â Then you jammed the angel blade into his gut, enjoying the satisfaction of watching him sizzle out.
âWhat the hell?â
âWhat the hell are you doing here, Ian? Â Youâre supposed to be in Boise.â Â You yanked your blade from the body and spun to face him. Â
His eyes were wide in horror. Â âYou just killed--â
âA demon. Â I just killed a demon. Â Now, what the hell are you doing here?â Â The last thing you needed was to have law enforcement on your tail. Â What the fuck was this guyâs problem?
âI came--holy shit--I came to see if I could persuade you to join me in Boise next weekend and--fuck, you just killed someone.â
âDeep breaths, man. Â He was a demon. Â You know--like from hell.â Â What on earth made you tell him that? Â You were a seasoned hunter. Â You knew better than just dropping the truth on a civilian.
âA demon?â Â He said it slowly, as if trying to process it. Â âA demon--was that what was killing all those people in town?â
âYou know about that?â
âI may be a tourist, but I still read the news. Â Thereâs this app on my phone that told me all the news of the towns Iâd be travel--â he shook his head. Â âAnd you just killed him. Â Maybe youâre the one killing all those people.â
âFuck, I need a drink.â Â You groaned. Â âIf you read anything about the deaths in town, youâd know they were all caused by exsanguination, not stabbing. Â This guy was aiding and abetting a vampire.â
âVampire?â Â He scoffed. Â âDid you just say vampire? Â Are you on some kind of medication or something?â
âLook, believe it or not. Â I donât care. Â But give it a few days and thereâll be a new article on how the âmysterious deathsâ suddenly stopped.â
âYeah, when they have you behind bars.â Â He began to pat down his pockets. Â âShit.â
âForgot your phone got jacked?â Â You smiled.
âUm...______, you...â he started to back away from you. Â âYou donât want to kill me. Â I promise, I wonât say anything to anyone.â
âWould you relax? Â Iâm not going to kill you. Â Unless youâre some sort of supernatural creature, youâre fine.â
He eyed you with suspicion. Â âSeriously?â
You sighed, tucking your gun and blade away. Â âHonest. Â Iâm here to slay demons and vampires. Â Not stupid humans with horrible timing.â
âVampires?â
You nodded. Â âAnd demons. Â You saw the way he kinda sparked when I stabbed him, right?â
âYeah.â
âDemon. Â Thatâs what happens when they get stabbed with the blade I have.â
âWhatâs so special about the blade you have?â
âItâs--â how to explain this? âItâs a special blade. Â Takes care of all the supernatural baddies.â
âAnd this--chasing down demons and vampires--this is what you do? Â You just travel around and save people with this special blade you have?â
âYeah.â
âIs this why you think you have to go the âno friendsâ route?â
âHunting these creatures...doesnât allow for a lot of friends. Â Either they donât believe me and think Iâm crazy or they get killed. Â So, itâs better just to not have any.â
âMust get lonely.â
âMeh.â Â You shrugged and began walking. Â You were surprised when Ian followed you. Â âOK, dude--you just saw me kill someone. Â Why the hell are you still bothering me?â
âI--I know itâs mad, but my mother, she believed in things like this. Â Swore my entire life that supernatural creatures existed. Â She said she was a witch, herself, so she knew these things were real. Â I just--I donât think youâre crazy. Â But something about you--you have me so completely transfixed on you, I couldnât stop thinking about you the entire drive out of this town. Â I had to come back. Â Screw the mileage on the rental--I had to come back to see you.â
âIan,â you sighed and bit your lip. Â What the hell about him had you so transfixed as well? Â âI canât. Â I canât risk your life.â
âIâm not asking you to. Â Just--Boise, this weekend? Â Please?â
âIâll think about it.â
You stared at the piece of paper with Ianâs hotel information on it. Â Youâd thrown it in the motelâs waste basket at least a hundred times since heâd given it to you. Â Each time, you hadnât gone five minutes before retrieving it.
But there you were, Sunday evening, standing in the hallway in front of his room. Â You tried to force your brain to stop overthinking as you reached up and knocked.
â______?â
âHey.â
âI didnât--I wasnât sure you were going to come.â Â He smiled warmly. Â âCome in?â
âI canât--I canât stay long. Â I have another job I have to head to.â Â You followed him into the fancy digs of his room, trying not to gawk at the lavishness. Â âThat motel room you had next to me must have given you nightmares if this is what youâre used to.â
âA little.â
You smiled at the face he made. Â âI just needed to say, thanks for the offer. Â I just canât do the friends thing. Â I canât risk getting attatched and losing anyone else.â
âA lover?â
âNo--she was my best friend...â you paused. Â âActually, she was more like a sister. Â We grew up together. Â And then, one day,â you sighed. Â âI donât know why Iâm telling you all this.â
âMight help to get it off your chest.â Â He offered with a hopeful smile.
âMaybe.â Â You sighed again. Â âThey kept calling her an âabomination.â Â Said she didnât deserve to live. Â That she should never have been born. Â That her mother was a lowly human and should never have been bred.â
âWhat?â
âHer father was an angel. Â Not the man I knew to be her dad--her actual father. Â Heâd had some sort of relationship with Macyâs mom and Macy was a ânephilim.ââ Â Tears began to spill from your eyes. Â âThey didnât even care that I was there, in the apartment with her. Â Told me I would serve as a warning to all humans who dared to believe they were worthy of an angel. Â Left me with these.â Â You lifted up the side of your shirt to show him the scars from where they had slashed you with their blades.
âFuck.â
You took several moments to get your emotions back under control before you spoke again. Â âHer mom came to visit me in the hospital. Â Said she never thought Michael would let something like this happen to Macy. Â Then she gave me the blade I have. Â I donât know how she got it, and she wouldnât tell me. Â She just told me she wanted me to be safe.â
âMichael. Â As in, archangel Michael?â
âYeah.â
His brow furrowed. Â âThat still doesnât explain how you got started hunting these creatures.â
âA hunter--this old guy--came to the hospital to interview me. Â Said he was with the FBI. Â I asked him what the hell the FBI was interested in me for.â Â You rolled your eyes at the memory. Â âHe had some bullshit answer, but I knew something was off about him. Â Long story short--I managed to convince him to take me on as an apprentice. Â He thought I was off my rocker--kept saying angels didnât exist, but he still trained me. Â And now, here I am. Â Hunting solo.â
He took a few minutes to digest everything youâd told him. Â When he was still silent, you stood to leave. Â This wouldnât be the first time someone thought you were insane.
â______, wait.â Â He stood and took your hands in his. Â âThis is just--itâs a lot to take in. Â Itâs not that I donât believe you--â
âYou just donât believe me.â Â You tried to pull your hands from his, but he held firm.
âNot at all.â He insisted. Â âI mean, if demons exist, surely the stories I learned, whenever my grandmother would drag me to church, are true as well.â
âI thought you said your mother was a witch.â
âMy fatherâs mother--she wanted to save me from the pits of hell my mother was trying to drag me to.â Â He flashed a sad smile. Â âI believe you. Â Completely. Â Itâs just...hard to wrap my mind around the idea that angels would do something like this. Â The Bible makes them out to be such caring and compassionate beings.â
âItâs what I learned when I was young.â
âWere you ever able to find them? Â The angels who killed your friend?â
You shook your head. Â âNo. Â But the angels know I have this blade. Â A few of them have tried to take it from me.â
âAnd you killed them like you killed that demon?â
âNo. Â Wounded them, yes. Â They underestimated me.â Â You bit your lip. Â âI know I canât take on the hordes of heaven. Â I wouldnât want to, even if I could. Â I would love to see the angels who murdered Macy meet her fate, but Iâve wised up enough to know thatâs not going to happen--at least, not at my hand. Â Iâve accepted it. Â I just--I want to be left alone, to do what I do. Â I canât save Macy, and I canât bring her back. Â But I can save other people. Â I can save someone from going through what I did. Â From losing what I lost.â
âSo, whatâs stopping you?â
âThe angels donât want me to have the blade. Â They think it makes me too powerful. Â Too much of a threat. Â Maybe theyâre overestimating me now.â Â You shrugged. Â âBut this--this is why I canât do the friends thing. Â I wonât risk losing anyone else should more angels decide to take me out completely. Â I donât want anyone else to go through what I did, should they get caught on the sidelines.â
âThen teach me. Â Teach me to hunt like that old man taught you.â
âDid your witch-mother put some kind of âstupidâ curse on you?â You threw your hands up in exasperation. Â âI just got through telling you why this wonât work. Â And why the hell are you so interested in being around me, anyway? Â A week ago, you didnât even know I existed.â
He smiled. Â âYou stayed.â
âWhat?â
âYou loaned me your mobile and you stayed through the mess with the police and you let me follow you to your motel room even though I was just some strange guy with an accent. Â Not many people in this world who would do that. Â But you did. Â You care about other people. Â If more people cared the way you do, can you imagine how much better life would be, for everyone?â
âAre you some sort of undercover evangelist or something?â
He blushed. Â âNo--I just--I want to do that. Â I want to give people that hope you gave me when you held out your phone to me. Â You made me feel like maybe there was something worth hoping for, even while everything around me had just gone to hell.â
âIan--â
âPlease? Â Just on a trial basis, at least?â
You smiled at the hopefulness in his voice. Â This must have been how Rufus felt when youâd begged him to teach you how to hunt. Â And just like him, in spite of all the misgivings, you nodded.
Six months later...
âIan, get out here and help me!â
You and Ian had found a small house for rent just outside of Boise and set up a home-base of sorts. Â You still traveled around and hunted, but now, with the money Ian had from selling whatever business heâd had, you could afford a more permanent roof over your head and a steadier influx of groceries.
And said groceries needed to be moved from your truck to the kitchen.
âThat man better be glad I love him.â You mumbled to yourself when he still hadnât arrived to help.
The love thing--that had surprised the hell out of you. Â Honestly, it still kind of surprised you, and scared you. Â You hadnât meant to fall for him. Â Love was just one more complication you didnât need. Â But heâd managed to weasel his way into your heart. Â The little shit.
With your hands full, you headed to the front door. Â It took a bit of juggling, but you managed to get the door unlocked and open. Â As soon as you stepped inside, a chill ran up your spine. Â You dropped the bags as quickly and quietly as possible before hovering your hand near your blade.
âWhat is the meaning of this?â Â The male voice was off. Â Something about it made your skin crawl.
In the living room, Ian was standing next to a man youâd never seen before. Â And for whatever reason, the man was wearing a suit.
â______.â Ian paled. âGet out, now.â
You were not about to leave him alone with whoever this fucker was. Â âIan--â
âIan?â Â The other man scoffed. Â âIan? Â That is the best you could come up with?â
âBrother, please, donât do this.â Â Ian moved to stand between you and...his brother? Â Heâd never mentioned having a brother.
âYou were supposed to eradicate the threat, not form relations with them.â Â The man eyed you over Ianâs shoulder. Â âWhere are the others?â
âOthers?â Nothing about this was making sense.
âWhy yes. Â The others in your group.â
âWhat group? Â Ian--â
âYouâre here for the angel blade? Â Take it. Â Just leave ______ out of this.â
An angel. Â Of course. Â The suit and the way he spoke should have clued you in. Â You must have gotten soft with all this fancy living. Â But what had Ian called him...oh, right...
âBrother? Â You--youâre a fucking angel?!?!â
âYou didnât know?â Â The angel looked at you before turning back to Ian. Â âMichael was right in sending you, Balthazar, if you were able to go this long without being detected.â
âMichael? Â Youâre working for--fuck!â Â You yanked the blade out, ready to fight. Â âYou want it? Â Come and get it.â
Ian--Balthazar turned to face you. Â â______, donât. Â Please.â
âAll this time--all this time I thought...and you were an angel. Â You sick son of a bitch. Â You made me think you loved me. Â Made me think I loved you. Â And all this time, you were one of them.â
âI do love you.â Â You rolled your eyes. Â âAnd I wanted to tell you. Â So many times. Â But I just didnât think youâd be able to get past what happened to Macy.â Â He turned back to his brother. Â âYou want an angel blade?â Â One immediately fell from his sleeve. Â âTake mine.â Â He thrust the blade at the other angel. Â âTake it and go.â
âBaltha--â
âAnd you tell Michael he is going to have to answer a few questions I have for him.â
âYou have no place, making demands of Michael.â
Suddenly, he was in the other angelâs face. Â âHe had a daughter, and he let her die. Â Michael is no more holier than any one of us.â Â Youâd never seen Ia--Balthazar that angry before and you felt yourself cower along with the other angel. Â âGo. Â And any other angel that comes for ______âs blade will have to go through me to get it.â
A few beats of silence passed before the other angel nodded and disappeared. Â With a heavy sigh, Balthazar turned and faced you, fear etched in his features.
âHow do I even begin to apologize for what Iâve done?â
âYou were sent here to kill me.â Â It wasnât a question, but he nodded anyway. Â âEverything from the night we met to now, it was all just a scam.â
âNo.â
âYou are a fucking angel. Â You hid that from me.â Â You growled. Â There really werenât words to describe the agony you were in. Â How did betrayal have such a physical pain to it? Â âThis was all some sort of elaborate set-up to âeradicateâ me.â Â You flipped the blade in your hand and thrust it, hilt first, towards him. Â âDo it.â
â______--â
âJust fucking do it, Balthazar. Â End it. Â Thereâs no way it could hurt worse than what youâve already done to me.â
He took the blade and flung it down to the floor. Â âI love you, ______. Â Even if Michael himself came right now, hordes of heaven behind him, thereâs no way I could hurt you.â
âYou already have.â Â
The two of you stared at each other in silence for a while.
âYes, I was sent to kill the group of humans with the angel blade. Â I staged the car jacking because I knew you were part of the group. Â I needed to get you to get me into the group. Â I was going to use you and then take you out with the rest of them. Â But then you handed me your phone. Â Just something about you--I knew right then and there that I had to make sure you stayed safe, no matter what. Â I followed you when you went after that vampire. Â But then that demon showed up--and you were still by yourself. Â I thought the rest of your group should have been there by that point, but it was just you, and you killed that demon like it was something you did every day. Â I needed to learn more about you. Â Needed to figure out why you were working alone and with an angel blade. Â I honestly never expected you to show up at my hotel room. Â Asking you to come had been me grasping at straws, not sure how I was going to arrange our next meeting without it looking too suspicious.â
You didnât want to hear this. Â Most of you didnât. Â A small part of you--the part of your heart that hadnât completely shattered, wanted to listen to what he had to say. Â That small part needed to know it hadnât all been a scam.
âBut you came, and you told me everything. Â When you showed me what those other angels did to you...I knew there was no way I was turning you in. Â And then when you told me Macy had been Michaelâs daughter--______, I donât know how to make this right. Â I know I lied about a lot of things, but I never lied about loving you. Â I never meant to hurt you.â Â He reached for your hands. Â âTell me what I can do to fix this.â
You looked over his face. Â He looked so sincere, sounded like he meant every word heâd said. Â Fuck, you wanted to believe him. Â But you couldnât. Â He was an angel. Â An angel that had been sent to kill you. Â
Heâd lied, about so much. Â And even if heâd been honest about loving you, your whole relationship with him was based on this twisted deception, even the love. Â That was probably what hurt the most--all of his lies had flowed so easily from his lips. Â This could just be another part of it. Â This could all just be another part of his dishonesty.
âI donât know if you can.â Â You sucked in a deep breath. Â You needed to get away, get some distance. Â Maybe then you could begin to sort through the chaos that had taken over your brain. Â âI think I should go.â
âNo. Â I will.â Â You shrugged and pulled your hands from his. Â âIâm truly sorry, ______.â Â And he was gone.
Four weeks later...
You blinked back your tears as you sat up in bed. Â Every morning was the same. Â You woke up reaching for a man who wouldnât be there--a man that never actually existed. Â You might have even been able to convince yourself youâd imagined it all, except for the angel warding Balthazar had put up on the walls one night while youâd been asleep.
Dragging yourself out of your cocoon, you heard your phone buzz. Â You elected to ignore it--Balthazar had respected your wishes for no contact, and the only people who knew your number were other hunters. Â Your heart just wasnât into hunting anymore. Â No, the pieces of that were still with the angel whoâd broken it.
Your phone buzzed again, and again. Â After the fifth call, you snatched it up.
âWhat?â You snapped.
â______?â Â You didnât recognize the number or the voice.
âYeah?â Â
âMy name is Castiel. Â I have been directed to not tell you that Iâm an angel of the Lord.â Â You could hear shouting in the background. Â âOh, right. Â I mean, I am calling about a hunting matter. Â Because Iâm a hunter. Â Not an angel.â
âAlright, hunter-not-angel Castiel. Â What do you want?â
âMy broth--friend, uh, Bal--I am trying. Â I do not understand why I need to lie. Â But isnât lying how you wound up in this mess to begin with?â Â He seemed to be talking to someone else, but his voice was still loud and clear in your ear.
âMay I please speak to Balthazar?â Â That name still felt funny on your lips, but the sound of it--yeah, it fit him better than Ian.
âYes.â
â______?â Balthazar sounded nervous.
âWhy?â
âWhy what? Â Why am I calling? Â Why did I lie? Â Why do I love you?â Â He gave you no chance to answer. Â âIâm calling because I need to make sure youâre alright. Â I lied because I foolishly thought I needed to follow the orders Iâd been given. Â You are more important to me than any orders Iâve ever been given. Â And I love you because...because you are the first, last, and only thing Iâve ever wanted to give up being an angel for. Â Because you are always in my thoughts and I still find myself making decisions based on what you would want. Â Because itâs been four weeks and I want to smite myself for ever causing you any sort of pain. Â I love you because--â
âI miss you.â You admitted quietly, cutting off his declaration.
And it was the truth.  You missed his laugh and how he loved to tease you when you woke up grumpy.  You missed how he would butcher Shakespeare and watch your favorite movies with you after a long hunt.  You missed how safe he made you feel, even though youâd always thought youâd been the more experienced warrior.
You heard a sound of surprise escape from him. Â âI can make it up to you. Â Just tell me--anything--anything I can do to make it up to you.â
âMaybe we can start with breakfast? Â See where we go from there?â

Angel:Â Michael
Words:Â 1450
Author: Scruff
Warning(s):Â mild swearing, cheesy-fluffiness
Note(s): I know the request is for Thanksgiving, but I hope it works just as well now. I'm going off the idea that, being an angel, Michael is kosher (if I messed it up, let me know). Also, the 'traditional southern New-Year's meal' consists of everything I've eaten for New Year's lunch every year I can remember. I know it can be a little different for each southern (US) family, but this is what my family does (we're from Georgia, in case you were wondering)
Happy New Years!!!

You dropped the grocery bags in your hands and glared at the archangel currently spraying fire-retardant into your stove.
âWhat the hell, Michael? Â I step out to pick up a few things and youâve damn near burned my kitchen down!â Â You could barely see him through the smoke and the spray.
âOh--hi, ______.â He turned to look at you as soon as the air had cleared, blush creeping up to his cheeks. Â âI didnât hear you come in. Â What are you doing here?â
âI live here, Michael. Â What are you doing, there?â
âI um...I was trying to bake some cookies.â Â
You cocked an eyebrow. Â âCookies?â
âWell, yes. Â You said your sister was bringing her children and I thought they might enjoy a treat.â
âWhy didnât you just wait until I got back?â You were trying to hang on to your anger, but his hopeful look was quickly melting your heart.
âI wanted it to be a surprise.â Â He reached in and pulled out your baking pan--that was now covered in charred lumps. Â âSurprise?â
âMichael, itâs just New Years. Â They arenât expecting us to go all out.â Â
This was how it had been for a while now. Â Thanksgiving at your parents, as your dad made the most amazing pumpkin cheesecakes anyone had ever tasted; Christmas, being more geared to children, at your sisterâs, spoiling her two kids; New Years at your place, laid back and relaxed.
This would be Michaelâs first New Yearâs lunch with you.
âI know that. Â I am sorry about your oven.â Â He frowned. Â âAnd your pan.â
âHey, you know what--I think itâs a great idea.â Â He shook his head. Â âNo, Iâm serious. Â I think itâs sweet that you thought of my niece and nephew like that.â Â You took the fire extinguisher from his hands. Â âHow about we try again?â Â He nodded, one corner of his mouth lifting. Â âThen you can help me with everything else.â
.
âI donât understand why you think I need this.â Michael stared curiously at the scaling knife youâd just handed him.
âItâs for taking the scales off.â You nodded to the fish that was laying on the cutting board on the counter, one beady little eye staring blankly up. Â âYouâre also probably going to want gloves.â
âIs this what you went to the market for?â
âWell, yeah. Â I know you donât eat ham, so I figured fish would work just as well for you.â
âI donât need to eat anything, ______.â
You frowned. Â âI know, but...itâs tradition.â Â You didnât know how else to explain it. Â You just knew youâd be spending the whole day trying to hide your disappointment if he didnât want in. Â
âYou wish for me to partake in your family tradition?â
âYeah. Â Like when we went for Christmas and Thanksgiving. Â Youâre part of my family, now, and I donât want you to be left out.â Â He smiled before pressing a sweet kiss to your lips.
âYou know, I could just take care of this, quite easily.â Â He waved his hand over the fish and it was suddenly turned into a completely baked fish, steam still rising from it.
âThatâs no good. Â If you want the luck from it, youâve got to prepare it yourself.â Â He sighed and snapped his fingers, returning the fish to itâs original scaliness. Â
âAs an archangel, I do not believe in this thing you call âluck.ââ Â You frowned. Â âWould it be better if I said that I do not need luck, for I have you?â Â There was a definite twinkle in his eyes.
âMuch.â You grinned. Â âBut you still have to gut the fish.â
âFine.â
He started working on his fish while you began to rummage around the kitchen, gathering the ingredients for corn bread. Â He may be eating fish, but the rest of your family was going to want the traditional southern New Yearâs lunch tomorrow--ham, rice, black-eyed peas, stewed tomatoes, collard greens, and corn bread. Â You needed to get as much done now, so that tomorrow wouldnât be such a rush.
âI now understand why people choose to buy fillets that have already been prepared,â he groused. Â You looked over to see a very mangled piece of fish sitting at the end of his scaling knife.
âYou killed it!â
â______, it was already dead when you brought it home.â He looked at you like youâd lost your mind.
âNo, I mean--you were just supposed to take the scales off. Â You werenât supposed to try and take the meat from the bones.â Â You stepped over, trying to see if any part of the fish was salvageable. Â
âI know it is hard believe, but I have never actually skinned a fish before.â
You couldnât help it. Â You started laughing. Â âYou donât skin a fish that has scales.â Â The angry look on his face only made you want to laugh harder. Â âYou know what...â You got your laughter under control after a few moments. Â âMaybe it would be best if you just,â you waved your hand around, âdid your little magic thing and got your fish done.â
âIt is not magic.â Â His anger had faded into a pout. Â âItâs grace. Â And I am not going to use it to prepare this fish. Â I want the luck from it.â
âYou know that whole luck thing is just a silly superstition, right?â Â You pressed your lips together to keep from laughing again. Â His pout deepened. Â âAlright. Â You salvage as much as you can and put it in a bowl. Â Weâll make a casserole or something.â Â He was still looking a little grumbly, so you leaned over and kissed his cheek. Â âItâll work out. Â Promise.â Â Finally, he smiled.
.
âMom, Dad, you remember Michael.â Â Michael offered his hand to both of your parents.
âHoney, youâve brought him to every family function for the past six months. Â I know weâre old, but weâre not senile,â your mom chastised gently. Â Instead of shaking his hand, she wrapped him in a hug. Â âHow are you doing, dear?â
âAs long as Iâm not cooking, I seem to be doing well.â Â You snorted a laugh. Â âThankfully, I have ______ to supervise me in the kitchen.â
âAnd I keep the fire extinguisher handy, just in case.â
âI see Michael is about as handy in the kitchen as I am.â Â Your mom hugged you after she released Michael.
âYouâre going to have to step up your game, young man,â your dad said, shaking Michaelâs hand. Â âNothing like the feeling of being able to provide a good meal for your loved ones.â
You frowned at your father. Â The âLâ word hadnât been exchanged between you and Michael. Â Youâd certainly felt it--made sure to show it, and you knew Michael was on the same page as you, but actually saying it--that hadnât happened. Â Leave it to your family to try and push the issue.
âUncle Mike!â Â Your niece and nephew broke tension youâd been feeling as they raced to see who could tackle Michael in a hug first.
âHey, guys...Michael made something for you. Â Itâs in the kitchen. Â You can each have one before lunch.â Â They squealed and ran towards your kitchen. Â You looked over to see that Michael didnât seem the least bit affected by their misnomer. Â But that meant--great--now your sister was going to try and play match-maker too.
âHey, Mom, Pops.â Â Your sister poked her head in through the front door. Â â______, howâre you doing, kiddo?â
âKiddo? Â Iâm older than you, stupid.â Â Sheâd gotten caught trying to meddle, and she was using this as a diversion tactic. Â âAnd why are you having your children call him âuncleâ?â
âItâs alright, ______.â Michael smiled warmly. Â âI like it.â He paused, that twinkle back in his eyes. Â âI feel like it should be my permanent title.â
âAnd thatâs our cue.â Â You were grateful that your mom had the presence of mind to herd your dad and sister out of the room. Â As it was, your brain had temporarily shut down and you just continued to stare at Michael.
âI think this is where you are supposed to say something,â he prompted.
âYou--you want to be their uncle?â You stuttered, mentally slapping yourself for having responded with that. Â âI mean--you and me and...â
âEternity is a long time, ______. Â I cannot think of a better way to spend it than with you.â Â He took your hands in his before leaning down and kissing you. Â âSo?â
âI love you.â Â He was practically glowing at your admission. Â âAnd if this is your idea of a proposal, then yes. Â My answer is yes.â
âI love you, too.â Â He kissed you again, lifting your hands to his shoulders before wrapping his own around your waist. Â
It had been a while since you had seen Gabriel. He wouldnât answer your prayers or texts. You knew he probably had some angel business to do, but he could at least have called to reassure you that heâs ok, right?
âYou ok there, Y/N? You look like youâre about to hit something.â Dean said, looking over his computer screen.
âYeah. Fine.â You mumbled back. âActually, how long has it been since youâve heard from Cas?â You asked, looking at him.
âUhâŠwellâŠâ He mumbled as he struggled to remember. âA couple weeks ago, I believe.â You sighed and looked away. Itâs like all the angels in Heaven just disappeared off the face ofâŠwellâŠHeaven.
âWhy do you ask?â You looked at him again. It was like Deanâs emerald green eyes were piercing into your soul.
âItâsâŠitâs Gabe. I havenât heard from him in a while. He hasnât answered my callsâŠmy textsâŠHell, even my prayers. I was hoping that Cas might know whatâs up.â
âIâm sure there is a logical explanation for why heâs not here.â He tried to reassure you.
âYeah. Youâre right. Heâs probably totally ok with some bimbo in a cheap motel drowning out the memories of us in booze and sweets.â You spat out.
âHold up, you donât actually think heâd do that to you, would you?â Sam finally piped up.
âI donât know what to think, Sam. Itâs either that orâŠor heâsâŠâ You stood up and shook your head. You walked to your room, ignoring the Winchesterâs protests.
Once you got to your room, you slammed your door, thanking whatever God is left up in Heaven you are finally alone. You threw yourself on your bed and just let yourself fall asleep. Itâs been a long day, you earned at least one decent nightâs sleep.
You woke up to the sound of flapping wings and a bright light. You sat up, confused and shield your eyes from the piercing light. As soon as the lights dimmed down, you moved your hand. Your eyes widened as you focused on the Archangel before you, dressed in his full glory.
âG-GabrielâŠâ You managed to whisper. He was dressed in a white robe with a golden crown. What really struck you was his wings. It wasnât the fact that he had four of them or that the golden feathers seemed to flutter in some unseen breeze, no. It was the fact that you could see them.
âY/N,â He smiled down at you. âIâm so sorry for being gone. I just got so caught up in the celebration up in Heaven.â He seemed to be almost in a drunken state of joy.
âCelebration?â You asked, utterly confused. âCelebration for what?â
âOh, my wonderful sugarcube. Heâs returned! My father has finally come back to Heaven!â He seemed to just overflow with happiness.
âWaitâŠGodâŠis back in Heaven?â You asked, absolutely stunned. He nodded and moved closer to sit beside you on the bed.
âI have missed you.â He whispered, letting a hand run through your hair.
âI thought you forgot about me.â You sheepishly admitted.
âForgot about you?â He chuckled. âHow could I ever forget about the sweetest, most beautiful girl who has ever allowed me to be gifted with her presence every single day?â You smiled. You were a little put off because of how he was acting.
âGabriel? Are you feeling alright?â He smiled at you.
âIâm feeling perfect. Fatherâs return has affected us, though. His presence has filled us with all sorts of emotions that weâve never felt before. Itâs a little overwhelmingâŠâ You laughed.
âI see. So youâre temporarily human?â You asked with a smile. He nodded.
âI wanted to spend these remaining feelings with you. I want to feel the love I have for you the way you do for me. I want to be able to feel all of your emotions. I want to feel you emotionally.â He pressed his forehead to yours.
âMay I hold you?â He whispered. You smiled and nodded, biting your lip. He pulled you to his chest and laid back, holding you close.
âI love you, Y/N. I hope you never forget that.â
âI love you too, Gabriel.â He smiled and slowly pressed his lips to the top of your head as you fell asleep in a delightful bliss.
