When one thinks of the Jewish and Latino community, one doesn’t usually think of them as one single group. Nor does this group receive large propaganda. But recent events (the presidential election) has made this group of people feel threatened. Outcome? People who are both Latino and Jewish are rising up and fighting the discrimination that has skyrocketed in the past few months. Those who are Jewish and Latino find themselves in a difficult position where they are not in one group, but two groups that they associate themselves with that are being oppressed. Velez, a Jewish Latina says, “ My family has made a promise, To stand, to fight, to refuse to look away. To make it possible for other families, generations from now, to hold their children where I held mine. Even when we are scared. I am a Jew. I am a Latina. I will not debate this, for oppression is not debatable. And I will not be silenced.”
