i don't monhun personally so like smite me if i'm wrong but the Impression ive gathered from a while of being digital neighbors with several fans is the monsters are like basically characters in their own right with how they carry across between games . Which is why i feel like the fact that they bapped The monsters themselves onto terra for the crossover does make a difference . Like sure they're not humanoids saying words but you know them

It’s so much so that until very recently, human characters weren’t even named; they HAVE in-universe names, they just aren’t important at all so everyone was referred to by a title or job (“Eager Hunter”, “First Captain”). The iconic parts of MH are the monsters and the gear you make from their parts, and we got both of those things.
