About SPN reactions to J2M interviews. Opinions. They are opinions you do not have to like. That’s okay...
If an SPN actor voices an opinion abt a show they worked (10 yrs, 15 yrs etc)Â I'll notice people reacting in a way that reminds me of the people who think someone is wrong or being mean or hurtful on purpose, when they are only disagreeing. If it's an opinion about a fic show and how you simply disagree w an actor's views, cool. But I see people saying that they are hurt or crying. There are deep connections and we (most of us?) see ourselves in SPN characters & don't like to see them mistreated or dismissed.Â
But it's my opinion that we all need to take care of ourselves & remember J2M don't say things to purposely hurt us or deserve death threats (seriously?!) or fans telling them "You shouldn't say this. Delete this. This is wrong. This is insensitive."Â
Why are they the only actors who get scolded? That's where things get unfair, to me (only?). It reminds me of helicopter-parenting.. I’m not the only fan to note entitlement exists in a part of the fandom. Being upset or disagreeing does not equal entitlement. Surprise or pure shock that someone is voicing a different opinion than yours, without immediately getting online so you can connect and correct their opinion, is entitlement. Expecting all fans to get on board with throwing Jared hate and threatening to not watch Walker because of an SPN-related comment is....well, not anything. So why bother?
U are valid and always will be. Remember that an actor's opinion about a fictional show should not have so much influence, because you have a mind of your own.Â
Things were interpreted in such a way by a lot of fans (who agree w you, who disagree, etc), that you don't need the actors’ opinions to validate or match up with your own. Times are stressful right now and I'll be honest and say I'm in a privileged position, so I know that if Jared doesn't say something I like, it's not a reason for me to be upset.Â
I get worried about fans who are putting too much weight on their interviews. Especially, when the show has completed it’s run, and recently but not literally yesterday.Â
The most positive thing I can think of suggesting to off-set any upset or hurt is to simply follow Shoshannah's work, to show support for her. It's just an idea, I'm not right. Just want to help de-stress the fandom, because sometimes I get concerned for both fandom and cast of SPN. Be good to yourself!Â
Don’t tell actor’s how to think. Don’t send death threats. Leave their families alone. Please.Â
Remember that this show represented a lot and important conversations have come from the show, but the Buzz Feed article was the best way to deal with it (for example).Â
I’m sorry people are hurt, but be proud of your stance on LGBTQ+, know that SPN has been outed for mistreatment of (a lot of) characters on the show, and that an actor’s words are their thoughts, not yours. Someone disagreeing with you about a fictional show, is just that. I promise, you’re okay. You’re good for caring, but in some people’s cases, tears MAY not be necessary.Â

Note: I wouldn’t be surprised if SPN conventions all come with moderators and fans are no longer allowed to ask questions or interact with the actors, like in the past. Let’s be honest. Some people are crossing the line. Some are forgetting that when people disagree, it’s not an attack against them personally. Please, take care! I don’t think that anything said by J2M is meant to hurt. Because they are just opinions.
