Fibreshed Knitalong Week 1 Joining in this global knitalong project exploring designing fashion with a smaller footprint. The purpose of fibreshed projects is to use fibres, yarn and dyes which are local…within 200/500km. Thus reducing the footprint created when creating garments, I find this to be a much more mindful way to create. As I have been purchasing wool or fibres I have been conscious of asking exactly where the fleece was grown. Steph and Ryan breed some beautiful corriedale speed, mainly coloured, in Langwarrin, 20 minutes from home. I bought the fleece, not knowing what I would make, but when the knitalong came up I thought it could work. The fleece ranges from silvery grey to black. I have spent this week spinning and plying. I washed/scoured my first batch ready to start knitting. The yarn really plumped up after the wash, looking forward to seeing it dry.
