The Snake 🐍
Turns out i did take some progress for the snake basket before my camera died! So, carrying on from the working progress report of the Lion here is what me and Scott (he’s in the photos) got up too on the sssssssnake.
We sculpted from polystyrene the two dome like shapes for the basket and removed the centre of one of them. This was because it was to be the base and it needed to be able to house the snake nicely. This round basket eventually sits on a crate which was a similar design to the one used for the Lion. A crew member will sit in the Crate and reach up through the basket to operate the snake puppet, which is why there needed to be a big hole in the bottom of the base.
The carved Polystyrene had pipe lagging taped around the rims and was then was covered in Plug sealer (the red stuff). Plug sealer hardens but doesn’t melt the polystyrene and can help with sticking bits together, its messy and needs sanding afterwards a little, but it helps keep the shape and stops the resin distorting the sculpt when fibreglassing.
After fibreglassing we sanded/filled as required and attached the two parts together before fitting a heavy duty hinge. It was primed ready for painting and that is as far as i got with that job unfortunately, the rest was completed by SC amongst others.
If you wanna check out Scott’s work then here you go (https://www.facebook.com/scott.coombes.3386/media_set?set=a.107614116384417.1073741827.100014074866544&type=3)
I’ll post pictures of the final pieces when i find some. ✌️
