Did some character designs for this fic I’m writing, and thought I might share for the five other Zombie Apocalypse AU lovers lol. God, I wish I could draw.

Sky:

Was a fighter pilot for Her Majesty’s Royal Air Force

Originally from the city

Helped found ‘Skyloft’, an illustrious airborne safe haven that is supposedly the only human civilisation left completely free of infected

Wields a sword!!!! Insanely good fighter, despite very little swordplay training

Sun was an engineer for the same base, now lives on Skyloft too

Time:

Previously a farmer at Lon Lon Ranch alongside Malon

Human/Hylian by birth, but raised rurally by his Kokiri foster family. He still has a tinge of a Kokiri accent

He and Malon stayed pretty much to themselves throughout most of the apocalypse until pillagers came for the farm

Mainly uses a wood axe to fight since that’s what he’s used to, pretty decent fighter but has tired with age

Malon fights too, and is fairly good at it, though she uses a longbow (like in that one art of Jojo’s hehe)

Has that ‘apocalypse dad’ vibe to him lol

Twilight:

Time and Malon’s nephew

Lived and worked as a Ranchhand in Ordon village with his father Rustl, mother Uli, siblings, and girlfriend Midna

All his village (including Midna) died very early on in the apocalypse, Twi blames himself

Has been travelling ever since, no real aim in mind

Has a dog named Wolfie!! Who was gifted to him by Midna

Found Wild and nursed him back to health, they now travel as a duo

Uses a shotgun like the farmer that he is, though hates having to actually wield it. Great fighter when he needs to be, though won’t if he doesn’t have to

Wild:

Worked as a security guard for a laboratory called the Royal Sheikah Research Centre

His friends Mipha, Revali, Daruk, Urbosa, Zelda and Impa all worked there too

Amputee, lost his right arm in a workplace accident, uses a prosthetic

Throughout the start of the apocalypse, he continued to defend the lab as they tried to find a cure to the virus, however an experiment went wrong and an explosion caused the building to collapse, leaving Wild unconscious in the rubble

He was found by Twilight who carried him away and nursed him back to health, though Wild was left with extreme long-term amnesia

Sometimes, memories will come to him in flashbacks

Uses one of Twilight’s old hunting bows to fight (adapted to use with his prosthetic), and is an absolutely stellar shot

Warriors:

Was a Captain in Her Majesty’s Royal Army, had just been promoted and moved base when the apocalypse occurred

Has a twin sister named Linkle, though their father fled the country at the first whiff of danger and dragged her with him

Continued to work at his military base for the majority of the apocalypse to help attempt clearing out the zombies and providing a safe place for survivors

He knows of Skyloft’s existence, and wishes to travel there at some point

Uses his military appointed handgun to fight, as well as a scavenged machete for closer combat fighting. Also has a knife stashed away in case of emergencies.

Similar to Sky, is an absolutely incredible fighter, and has a ton of combat experience

You’d want him on your team ;)

Wind:

Lived on Outset island with his Grandma and little sister Aryll, in an archipelago off the coast of Hyrule

Grew up learning how to sail to get to other nearby islands

The apocalypse happened on his 12th birthday :(((

Given how small the island was, his Grandma was quickly infected, but he and Aryll were picked up by a rescue team from Windfall island that was heading to Skyloft

Met Tetra and her dad whilst on the rescue boat

There was an outbreak on the boat, and Wind was mistaken to have gotten bitten. He was pushed overboard, but was first able to source a lifeboat to sail to land, and is now searching to try to and find Aryll

Uses a rope with a rock tied on the end as a grapple to fight, as well as a comically large steel lump hammer (yes this is a reference to in-game Wind Waker items :))))

Despite having less strength, he’s a decent fighter, though the infected terrify him. He would rather die than admit this

Legend:

Lives in his uncle’s cabin in the middle of Faron woods with a Lolian refugee he gave a roof to (Ravio!)

A couple of years ago he had a girlfriend named Marin, who died in a car accident on her way to meet up with him

Obvs he was traumatised by this

His uncle died just before the apocalypse, leaving him and Ravio alone

Ravio runs a trading business with passing-by survivors, this plus their forging is what gives them the resources to stay alive so that they barely need to leave the woods

Thanks to a massive horde that constantly roams the area, Legend has a lot of zombie combat experience and is an incredible, if rather violent, fighter

He can never stick to just one weapon, and has a large range available due to Ravio’s trading business

Hyrule:

Was orphaned young, lived with his grandfather in a small village in the middle of nowhere

His grandfather worked as the village doctor, Hyrule learned medicine from him

After his village was decimated in the apocalypse, Hyrule began to wander the land as a travelling doctor, stocking up on medical equipment from various pharmacies and hospitals and using them to help any survivors he could

He has severe untreated otosclerosis, which causes him to be unable to hear most external sounds. Before the apocalypse, he did have hearing aids, however when the electricity went off these were no longer useful

Fluent in Hylian Sign Language, it is his preferred form of communication

Uses a flamethrower he scavenged to fight, though also has a baseball bat in case he needs it. He is great fighter, however similar to others he very much dislikes doing so

Four:

One of four quadruplets!

Lived in the city, he and his brothers shared an apartment alongside their uncle

Was apprenticing in engineering at a local mechanics when the apocalypse hit

He wasn’t there to witness the deaths of his family, however upon returning home he found zombies and refused to look hard enough at them to discover if they were his family or not

Still living in the city, though exactly where changes depending on where is safe

Lived for a while with an old man named Ezlo and his son Vaati, Vaati tried to kick Four out of the hideout but didn’t succeed. The three parted ways eventually, as Ezlo and Vaati had decided to travel outside of the city and Four couldn’t bring himself to leave.

Fights with whatever he can make out of what’s in his toolbox, including metal pipes, screwdrivers, saws, etc! He’s very inventive :)

Half-decent fighter, but he can’t look his assailants in the eyes.

Summary: Zelda comes to one realization after another in quick succession, which leaves her with one question: what now?

Or: In which Zelda realizes she might already be married.

the writing:

It is biting his tongue and it’s in Alfred’s own volition. In retrospect, he thinks he didn’t notice it when such bright flavor bloomed in his mouth, fresh air down to his throat, and lightness in his lungs. They say that it is much more constricting, a little more breathless but maybe his crisp breath is the spice in loving him.

Where love was thought to be sweeter or bitter or any other taste, he now takes in the mint of Arthur’s eyes. Painting it in his busy mind to indulge in less crowded settings and pine until his love feels too bright, too much to just keep it to himself alone. Months, decades have come and his pockets become too little to keep in the peppermint candy.

Arthur doesn’t ask. Either he doesn’t notice the small litter of wrappers following their steps or he chooses not to. Alfred still doesn’t know what he prefers, yet again chewing on sharp sweets.

“I mean, what on earth are they even doing over there?” The Captain slammed his book down in his lap, craning his neck to get a better look at the trio of youngsters down by the trees. “They haven’t been this loud since the Champion discovered bombchus.”

Time cocked his head, a small smile rising to his face above the sword he’d been sharpening. “You haven’t heard? Why, I thought the Sailor must’ve told you by now!”

Pain.

Throbbing in his head, burning down his muscles, sparking through his fingers. Harsh, but rousing. Familiar, but no kinder to him than his very first battle wound. A warning.

As usual, the pain was the very first thing to register. Barely conscious, it grounded Warriors to the softness beneath him, forcing him to shift uncomfortably and rouse his sleeping limbs. Pain, like an old friend, told him who he was before his memories could even try. Kept him steady whilst his jumbled brain failed and failed.

And yet, when those memories did finally bob to the surface, all that pain suddenly didn't quite seem like enough.

The smell of woodsmoke and frying microwave noodles hanging heavy in the air, Wild crashed back to consciousness with a jolt, nearly ending up with a mouthful of ash from the fire as he drew breath for what felt like the first time in minutes.

He blinked dazedly, visions and images from the recovered memory dancing just at the corners of his mind. It hadn’t been a very long or impactful snapshot into his past life, just a snippet of an old good day. Blurry faces of his past friends laughing, passing smores around a campfire.

A campfire very similar to this one. He supposed that must’ve been the trigger.

Luckily for him, it seemed it'd been a fast enough flashback not to draw any unwanted attention— the clamour of happy voices still drifted through the cooling air, and amongst the easy chatter Wild could still make out the gentle hum of a horse-hair bow against violin strings, their official 'Find of the day'. The house and it's garden they'd set up camp inside seemed to have been some sort of instrument shop before everything went to shit, and whadayouknow, of course, both Legend and Ravio knew how to play.

The scheming grin that had emerged upon Wind's face the moment he'd found out would probably have Wild chuckling for days.

They all knew as the day drew nearer to its close that they'd soon need to stop making noise and head back inside the house, but screw it, for now they were having fun. Fun, with no strings attatched, no costly price to pay. In the midst of a global apocalypse, fun was a resource about as hard to come by as decently smelling soap, and like a decently smelling soap, once you found it you'd treasure it for as long as you were able. Heck, Wild just wished he could properly remember what it was like to experience fun without death looming just over the horizon.

A particularly loud slosh of the boiling pan before him quickly drew the Cook's attention, and he tossed such thoughts from his mind with a gentle shake of his head, turning back to the dinner before it burned. Looking to the future was just as foolish as looking to the past; if you were going to survive in such a world as this, you had to stay firmly rooted in the present, where noodles were boiling and friends were laughing. No point thinking about what might've been.

He pushed his wooden spoon about the pan, the one Sky had so kindly whittled for him with the Captain's knife in the time they'd been waiting for Wind to make a full recovery, and noted each of their smiling faces as they watched Legend and Ravio improvise a string duet. Yeah, the present wasn't so bad at all.
