So, we know that Noctis is the 114th king, and that itâs been about 2000 years since Somnus. However, 114 generations, if *everyone* had a kid at 25 (which we know Regis didnât, he was 30), that would be 2850 years. So either the timeline isnât accurate (totally possible) or there have been a fair few kings that succeeded their siblings/cousins.
While we don't know much about the previous kings, one of the more notable ones, the Rogue, ascended to the throne in an age where queens were not seen as fit to rule alone because her father *and* her brother (presumably older one) had both been killed (by daemons, according to the wiki). That coupled with how quickly Regis was seen to age and have failing health in canon, and you can assume that Rogue was not the first or last time a sibling had to ascend the throne, and that in times or war or notable trouble, Lucii had a much higher mortality rate than the average royalty.
FFXV Timeline Makes No Sense
Hey there, Iâve never made a post like this, but I swear, this has bugged me for months at this point. Truly, since I really started to dig into Final Fantasy XV lore, this has truly made no sense. According to the newspapers the year is 756 ME. But we know that Ardyn and Somnus lived nearly 2,000 years ago, 114 generations ago. So, so, there are a lot of questions for how those timelines meet up. According to the Final Fantasy wikipedia, the only explanation is âthe four nations agreed to use the same calendarâ. There is a lot to unpack there. Who was the stronger nation? Whoâs calendar are we following? Why are we following that calendar? This means a lot culturally for the other three nations about why they suddenly agreed to change the years of their calendars to match everyone else. Was there a war? A massive peace summat? The developers leave nothing to us to let us know. Instead we just left with a giant hole in the timeline for a massive cultural shift for all four cultural entities for no one to explain. Fanfiction writers, do you have the time? Iâm a bit busy? But I have so many questions? I want to explore this so much!! Perhaps have I tackle this other project? Cultures just. .. donât change the year stamp easily. Romans and their conquered lands had the massive shift to Christianity to do so, and the eventual mass conversion of everyone else to change to time A.D. (now ACE) but, I cannot think of any other major reason why cultures just, change how they count their years. Why, why did Eos just, start recounting their years in the middle of the reign of Lucis Caelum? What major historical event happen to make them begin again?
The more I drive into ff15 extended canon the more I think Noct and by extension Prom where aged up last minute. There's a wired time gap where they had both clearly graduated high school but seemingly did nothing? Fan fic like to use that time to have Prompto train but nope. I checked he got only a few months before the trip. Add to that I just watched brotherhood episode 3 and I know it might just be an art style thing but Gldio look way older than Noct
ACTUALLY TECHNICALLY- According to their birthdates, at LEAST Prompto is technically 19 when the roadtrip starts and Iâm pretty sure Noct is too. Itâs just that the timeline counts years funky. I think it counts age by new year? Or something? But Promptoâs birthday isnât until like- OCTOBER, so at the least he was still 19 when the roadtrip started. So itâs not entirely unsurprising he hasnât gone to college, especially if his Crownsguard training was relatively rushed. He probably wanted to go into Crownsguard after graduating high school, but his training was pushed through to make him eligible for the roadtrip or something.
But yes, it would make a lot of sense if they were aged up at the last minute. You can see little lore hiccups like that in a lot of spots if you look closely. I think several of them are just because the devs were trying so hard to keep FFXV from falling back into development hell and getting abandoned that they just- made changes and then didnât smooth the bumps over (and then the DLCs come in and add *so many more hiccups* but we arenât here for that today).
Not sure if this is the place to ask but im just a bit confused. I just finished FFxv (I know it came out in 2016 but better late than never?) And I'm a bit confused on why Arydn and Noct have the same last name. Like they're related but how?
Congrats!! Yay, welcome to the fandom!Â
Before I explain have you played all the DLCs for FFXV? If you havenât do play them because my explanation goes into a bit of spoiler territory for Episode Ardyn, so read the next bit if youâre willing to be spoiled if you havenât played that particular DLC.
Per the official lore of FFXV, Ardyn and Somnus are from the Lucis Caelum line. Ardyn was to be the chosen King of Kings but was denied by the Crystal due to all of the Starscourge he absorbed from people infected with it. The scourge was twisting and making a monster of Ardyn, so Somnus banned Ardyn and became the first King of Lucis. Somnus and Ardyn are brothers, Somnus is Noctisâs direct ancestor, so Ardyn is technically Noctisâs ancestral uncle.
Hope that helps!

should nyx have been the protagonist?
Nyx IS a protagonist in the Kingsglaive movie.Â
In the grand scheme of the FFXV Universe, if Nyx was THE protagonist we wouldnât even have a game to play because heâs dead at the end of the movie.
Even if he were to somehow live at the end of the movie, he wouldnât be able to save the world because heâs not the Chosen one by the Crystal.
Also, the movie events happen in real time as Noctis and Co are making their way to Altissia, just after chapter one in the game...common knowledge for those that have played the game, unless you havenât played the game then go play it :)
Excuse me for meddling in but has it been disclosed who are the other messengers besides Gentiana, Pryna and Umbra?
You have been excused, no worries xD
There hasnât been any disclosure on who the other messengers are besides the ones you listed.
Famitsuâs Episode Carbuncle comic #17, Umbra & Prynaâs playground (x):
Talcott became a hunter in the 10 year time skip
Gladio, Ignis, & Prompto helped train Talcott
Talcott takes on Promptoâs personality in particular (Not too sure about this)
Talcott grew up watching his grandfather Jared master the fundamentals of fighting, and also yearned to fight also.
Talcott wants to be strong and protect those who are important to him he decided to become a hunter
Thereâs mention of some Episode Ardyn material:
Ardynâs favourite thing is wine and chess
Ardyn used to play chess with Somnus
Somnus was a strong chess player as he would win the games without any handicap
