I just discovered the Welcome to The Eye tag -_-
From ffullmoonphobic:
I saw you were among those who felt very strongly against it and because since so much of the those didnât go beyond âsheâs a piece of shitâ and âi fucking hate herâ i just wondered if you had or hadnât looked haha. but yeah while i completely understand your misgivings, if you get a chance or even want to, you could check out my thoughts about it in some most recent posts in my /tagged/lady+gaga, which iâd say here but theyâre basically elaborations on 1) she didnât actually come out as straight and 2) she didnât say âstraight people need pride tooâ. idk i really hope maybe it can help because while all the points you made are very valid (!!), i think there is still a lot of misunderstanding. like the way i see it, you gave great reasons against this one problem (straight people coming out/straight pride) but itâs unfortunately not the problem present. Let me know if any of it struck a chord or anything :) P.S. please donât read any sarcasm in this at all; iâm writing to you very genuinely because i truly believe itâs just a misunderstanding and open discourse about real problems that exist is the only way to get anywhere and progress as humans and yeah please donât take any of this personally or anything!
Answering this publicly again, for anyone who wants to read it.
No, I totally get it. It always bothers me when no one seems willing to actually talk about things, they just spew insults. I'm often left scrolling through posts just scratching my head, so I'm almost always going to be happy to talk. Okay, but here's the thing: you don't have to outwardly say something to understand that that's what you're implying, whether you meant to put it there or not. I mean, she literally called herself 'a straight,' and if that's not a coming out, I don't know what is. I've never, ever known a queer person to - even jokingly - call themselves straight. So, yeah, she did come out. I don't know how you can refute that. As for the 'straight pride' thing, that's the part that's sort of left up to interpretation, and what I'm hoping she comments on. I recognize that the caption was very ambiguous, and I think she has enough sense and genuine love for the lgbtqia community to understand what value pride has to a lot of us. However, anyone who injects cishets into queer spaces is awful and needs to stop, which is one of the reason this is so upsetting. So basically, I understand all sides. And trust me, I don't want to hate her - I have a fucking Lady Gaga tattoo, I've given her presents at every concert, I waited 12 hours for Monster Pit, like, I get it. But taking advantage of queer people for notoriety is awful, and injecting yourself - that you describe as 'straight' - into a queer space is deplorable, ESPECIALLY after calling yourself a voice for queer people. Also, what do you mean this isn't the problem? Like, this is literally what happened. We have a well known queer artist, open about her sexuality, being a speaker for the people often silenced, LITERALLY CALLING HERSELF STRAIGHT. AND THEN ASSOCIATING IT WITH PRIDE. HOW IS THAT NOT THE PROBLEM.Â
you are an angel. i will never understand why people would rather hate blindly than even for a second consider another point of view.
That was sweet, thank you. :) I agree with you. And i assume youâre referring to the lady gaga post? I read some of the newest text posts in your blog and i must say i was also thinking that is it just me or are people being bi/panphobic.
hi~! i was just wondering if you read that article or saw the caption/pic in question, because a lot of people seem to not have done so and seem to misinterpret what's actually present.
I have, actually, and Iâm glad you asked.Â
The article Iâve been seeing is this one (http://bit.ly/1pR364Q), which includes a screenshot of the Instagram post.Â
Look, I understand that my reaction could be completely out of proportion, and I really hope that in two days everything will be copacetic and no feelings will be hurt. I used to be a devoted Little Monster, but my support for her has been rapidly declining, especially after she supported Justin Bieber in his drunk driving charges (http://bit.ly/1e1FRBd).Â
The first thing people need to understand, especially Little Monsters, is that Lady Gaga is a shock value artist. A lot of performance art is like that (I mean, look at my love Amanda Palmer), though, so thatâs totally okay. And itâs not like I was unaware that thatâs what a lot of the appeal was - of course she lives on shock value. But, at least for a little while, I thought she was actually a great role model and stood for wonderful things, and I was proud to have her as a voice for the queer community. I know this wasnât a widespread opinion, but whatever. However, using a whole type of people as a shock act is disgusting, and Iâm glad she showed her ass and the fact that bisexuality meant as much as slabs of meat and mermaids. The way the post is written is almost like bisexuality was a âjokeâ to her, or just another piece of her act, which people called her out on many times and she vehemently refuted, something I had a lot of respect for.Â
Now see, hereâs the thing: I could accept her saying bisexuality is a phase. I get that everything is fluid, and it would be grossly hypocritical of me to not accept a change in identity when Iâve been doing the same thing for the past few months. The reason I canât get behind that is because of the way sheâs talked about it in the past, stating that itâs something sheâs always been and that she was âborn that way,â to use her own words. The way sheâs now âcome outâ (which is horrible to say in this instance; you donât need to come out as a cishet) almost insinuates that she was âjust kidding,â or has rescinded anything she said before. Thatâs whatâs so disgusting. It also brings to light the fact that sheâs been capitalizing on the insecurities of queer youth by pretending to be âone of us.â I think thatâs the absolute worst part about it: donât pretend and lie to make money and establish a name. Thatâs taking advantage of a group that already gets trampled on enough as it is.Gaga on her âbisexuality:âhttp://huff.to/1vpzH37http://huff.to/1r8jOAphttp://exm.nr/1rR6XA5I guess I could also be okay with her changing what she likes to be called based on who sheâs with. However, she needs to be aware that that is NOT something people commonly do and bring attention to that. Because so help me god, if she perpetuates the theory that bisexuals are not always bisexuals, I will lose my shit, and thatâs what will happen if she doesnât elaborate the way she NEEDS. That is probably the ONLY instance in which I will be okay with what she said. If thatâs the case, I will happily apologize for my rage, and I will still hold a modicum of respect for her.
Otherwise, her âcoming outâ as straight, with that jacked up caption that reads like âstraights need pride too!!â, is disgusting and makes her a literal garbage can. I also encourage everyone to read the articles, look at the information yourself, and form your own opinions. Also, donât ever insinuate that I donât do my research. This ainât middle school.Â
