Florida Film Festival 2019 - An Evening with The Blair Witch: A 20th Anniversary Celebration
In case you missed it: Here’s the video archive of the makers of The Blair Witch Project chatting after the Florida Film Festival’s 20th anniversary screening at Enzian Theatre.
Starting around 34 minutes in, there’s about a 12-minute segment where the guys talk about how the film came together via connections made at FFF and Enzian, and how their “marketing” for the film — arguably one of the first examples of what we now call “transmedia storytelling” or “viral marketing” — developed just as organically, as a natural extension of the storytelling itself.
If you’re interested in digging deeper, check out some of the other elements mentioned in the Q&A:
John Pierson’s Split Screen TV segment “Enter The Blair Witch” (the film’s first piece of publicity, aired in 1998, 10 months before the film played Sundance)
“The Blair Witch Connection,” John Pierson’s write-up of his firsthand experience working with Haxan Films to bring the film to the public
Curse of the Blair Witch, the Sci Fi Channel special produced and directed by Ben Rock (BWP production designer who devised the iconic “Stick Man” figures)
“The Making of The Blair Witch,” Ben Rock’s excellent five-part write-up on his experiences for Dread Central
