Sphinxyâs Final Fantasy 14 Drabble: No Need for Sacrifice
(Warning! Spoilers for Shadowbringers if youâre not caught up in story.
Saw I gained a FF14 follower so thought, why not share the drabbles I wrote? lol Been thinking of sharing them for awhile now since Iâm pretty happy with how some of them turned out! So here is one featuring my Warrior of Light OC Shay and Gâraha Tia!)
âThe Exarch, has he ever shown you what lies beneath that hood of his?â Emetâs question was sudden. They had been talking about how the people of Eulmore were now actually doing labor, how she changed the whole country. And then he suddenly brought that up. Shay eyed him curiously then shook her head. He looked surprised. âReally? Not even to you? Interesting.â
She felt like he was trying to get a rise out of her but the Miqoâte wouldnât let it happen as she simply stared. He shrugged. âWell, maybe you should ask him. Surely he wonât keep it hidden from you forever.â And with that he turned away with his usual wave and disappeared into the shadows.

âI wonât let you die! You are their savior, my savior! Even if it means my death, I want you to live!â The Exarch was standing before Shayâs crumpled body as the Light threatened to consume all of her. Why, why was he doing this? Was she really that important? Perhaps. The only one that could handle Primals, the only one who could take in the Light. Or so she thought.
But before his sacrifice could be complete, he was taken from her. The boy from the tower. She remembered him now the second his hood flew off his head. So many questions riddled her mind. And with Hades defeat and the Light calmed within her, she had time to ask as they rested in the Ocular. Urianger had explained most of it, the lie he had to tell to set them on this path.
Shay was a little miffed at him for it but understood why he did it. Because she and the others would never have agreed to any of this if it meant sacrificing a friend. Already the Scions were content with staying as souls detached from their bodies if it meant the Exarch could live. After everyone left to search for ways to bring them back home without a sacrifice, Shay stayed behind to talk.
This seemed to surprise Gâraha as he blinked at her. âShay? What is it?â He averted his gaze a bit, as if embarrassed for her to see who he truly was. âI remember you. From the tower. How you were locked inside. I was...rather upset we couldnât stop it. Cid had to hold me back from trying to pry my way in.â she admitted. Now it was her turn to avert her gaze in shyness. Gâraha turned to her now. âIt...had to be done. I saw no other way. But I had no idea it would lead me here, to the future. To, well, you and the others again.â
âWhy didnât you tell me who you were? Was it because of your plan? That if I knew who you were, I would never have allowed you to save me?â Shay gazed straight at him now. He said nothing so she continued. âI had grown to trust you. You seemed so wise and kind. All you did, you did for others. Even if it meant being stuck here. It reminded me of me. Before I became the Warrior of Light. All I wanted was to stay and protect my family back in Ul'dah. I would have stayed if they hadnât urged me to join the Scions.â
âThis world is changing and it is thanks to you primarily. I couldnât, absolutely wouldnât, see you turn against your friends after becoming a Sin Eater. I had a feeling you too would be the one to bring your friends home, so what was I needed for? If it meant saving you-â Shay ran up and hugged him suddenly. âStop. The others and I have already agreed that you donât need to sacrifice yourself. Or do you want to be flicked by Alisae again?â Shay was grinning now. The Exarch blushed sheepishly, ears bent back as he mumbled, âNo, I suppose not.â
Shay realized she had her arms around the back of his neck now and blushed as well for a completely different reason. He now stared back, the two face to face. âDonât try to sacrifice yourself for me. Iâll find another way to solve things. I always will.â she whispered and leaned in closer as did he when suddenly the door burst open.
âAnd another thing-!â came Alisaeâs voice when she paused upon seeing the two, a smirk now on her face, âAm I interrupting something?â Both Miqoâteâs jumped away from each other, fur, ears and tail standing on end. âN-No, no not really. What is it Alisae?â Gâraha replied, trying to regain his composure despite his cheeks burning red. She laughed. âOh, donât let me bother you two. I had a feeling something would spark. I had just come to nag the Exarch some more but it seems I donât need to.â
Still grinning and before either the Exarch or Shay could protest, she waved and went back out again. Both gawked after her. Then after a moment of silence, Gâraha spoke up. âYou...Do you think there is something between us? Despite me being stuck here? Despite my...condition?â There was both concern and hope in his voice. Shayâs head glanced towards him in surprise then she smiled and almost tackled him to the ground, causing the Exarch to let out a yelp.
Gently she kissed him and nuzzled her head against his. âI have no doubt.â He slumped with her hugging him against a wall and the two cuddled up to each other. Softly, Gâraha began to purr as he held the Warrior of Light close. Shay followed suit. A head peeked into the door along with several eyes. There was a soft âHow cute.â then they all ran before they would get caught.
