Warning- Lengthy Ianthe ramble, because I cannot stop thinking about her
Okokokokok but like, we need to talk about the almost two hundred year age gap between Tamlin and Ianthe. Again.
It's specified they were childhood friends, but for all we know, Tamlin was already High Lord by the time Ianthe was born! Or very close to the time when his family were killed.
If they were such close friends, it only makes sense to me, that in actuality, Tamlin just got dumped with babysitting duties.
Which actually works so fucking well. It makes perfect sense.
Especially since Ianthe's father, despite never being on page, comes across as extremely cunning and sly, I highly, highly doubt she learned to try and seduce men as a form of manipulation because she just happened to learn that. Considering that was also what Nesta was taught to do by her parents. I find it highly probable that it was the same for Ianthe.
Meaning that I doubt Ianthe and her father have a fabulous relationship. And if Tamlin was having baby Ianthe shoved onto him enough, it's also highly likely he played a significant role in her upbringing. Which stands to reason, he could easily view her as a younger sister/daughter.
And if this is the case... it does make sense why he would prioritise her over anyone else, including Feyre and Lucien, specifically when it comes to her voice within the Court.
Not only is she one of the 12 High Priestesses, she's been training alongside him since, we can only assume, birth. She would know the Spring Court's inner workings inside out, she'd have more than likely been Tamlin's right hand man since before Lucien ever came to his Court.
And to have such a deep emotional bond to her, especially with the fact that he not only didn't have a great relationship with any of his family, he also lost them in such a horrific and violent way, could only intensify his want to protect Ianthe, and listen to what she has to say.
This is why I can't take people who say "Oh Tamlin listened to Ianthe over Feyre and that's why he's evil he should have known!" seriously.
Ofc, SJM hasn't explicitly written their relationship this way, but... she kind of has... The massive age gap exists in canon, it is explicitly noted in canon that they were childhood friends. With that as the foundation of their relationship its quite easy to draw the conclusion that Tamlin saw Ianthe as one of his own family members.
And she probably saw him as family too. Ianthe goes to every length not really to claim power for herself, but to claim power for the Spring Court.
Ianthe is a girl, who has clearly grown up being taught that she needs power to be secure, that power is the ultimate goal. Power is protection. What would Ianthe want to protect? Her home. The place she is in such a High Power in. The place where Tamlin is. The place of which Tamlin is in charge of.
Now, I also know, Ianthe fully sided with Hybern, but when you think of it from the lense that Ianthe doesn't care for the rest of Prythian, only her home and her family, it makes sense why she would. It guarantees the Spring Court's safety.
Ianthe is a true morally grey character, who could have such a complicated and complex story to tell. And instead, because of SJM's shitty, shitty, shitty writing, she is written off as a sex offender.
Also. Also, Elain x Ianthe????? ELAIN X IANTHE, COME ON PLEASE
Also, also, also, Feyre x Ianthe. FEYRE X IANTHE PLEASE
â You are aware that youâll be married off soon, right?â Iantheâs voice whispered as her fingers brushed through Feyreâs hair. They were laying in her bed and Ianthe had come rushing in after another nightmare with claims of making sure that Her Lady was okay. With a gentleness that Tamlin hadnât given her for a long time, Feyre had been laid down with Ianthe curling up next to her.Â
â So?â A sleepy Feyre asked while pulling Ianthe closer and pressing her nose against the High Priestessâ chest.
â Which means that this canât keep going,â Ianthe replied, gesturing to the both of them. Feyre pulled back and looked up at her and frowned.
â Are you leaving me?â Feyre asked quietly, her grip on Ianthe tightening.
â I donât know,â she whispered back. Feyre could suddenly feel that dark hole inside of her growing and as if Ianthe knew what she was thinking, she quickly said, â You know I donât want to, Feyre. But if someone found out, Iâll be taken away. Iâd have to leave. I canât - I wouldnât be able to bear something like that. Iâd rather watch you from the sidelines than not see you at all.â Feyre didnât want this to end. Not now. This was worth so much more.
â What would happen to you?â Feyre asked, pulling back to look up at her fearfully.
â I donât know, love. Whatever my punishment is, I donât imagine itâd be good,â Ianthe said so calmly, youâd think she wasnât even worried. Feyre knew what would happen to herself. Sheâd be kept with Tamlin and heâd lock her up and suffocate her in this house. In this prison. She wouldnât be able to endure something like that. Not without Ianthe.
Feyre rolled on top of Ianthe and looked down at her. â We both knew what we were getting into after that first kiss, Ianthe,â she murmured, her fingers delicately brushing over the ink on her forehead. They both remembered the soft kiss theyâd shared in the gardens the first time. â Whatâs so different now?â
â Whatâs different is,â Ianthe started, one hand resting on the back of her neck and the other in her hair, â that I canât keep delaying this wedding any further and Tamlin refuses to even allow any of your training. It wonât be long until you two get married and you become Lady of the Spring Court. And not to mention that thereâs a certain High Lord of the Night Court coming after you too. How much longer can we keep going, Feyre?â
â I canât lose you,â Feyre rasped, her hands now resting on Iantheâs chest and she could feel her heartbeat. â You mean too much to me to let go.â Feyre leaned down to kiss Ianthe forcefully and let out a sigh of relief when she responded immediately. â Iâm not losing you, Ianthe. Weâll figure it out some way or the other.â
â Cauldron, what have I done?â Ianthe whispered more to herself. Feyre smiled down at her and kissed her lightly.
â Youâve fallen in love with me,â Feyre said teasingly, feeling her fears slowly receding. Iantheâs smile turned into one of awe and she felt Ianthe cup her face in her hands.
â I really have, havenât I?â Ianthe whispered in such shock that Feyre looked down at her with a look of surprise. â Iâve fallen in love with you,â she said again, while her eyes seemed to study every inch of her and Feyre felt her fingers starting to trace the lines on her face.  " Iâve fallen in love with the most beautiful woman in this world,â she muttered again, still in complete shock. Feyre blushed brightly at her words and laid down beside Ianthe again and they both were facing each other. One hand still remained on on Feyreâs face as it slowly traveled over her face again and again. â Would itâŚI mean, is it okay if Iâm in love with you?â Ianthe asked nervously after a moment of silence. Feyre nodded and kissed Ianthe gently to reassure her that it was more than okay.
When they pulled back, Feyre wasnât sure what to say. She wanted to return those words to her but how was she supposed to know? She wasnât as confident in her feelings as Ianthe was. She couldnât reach into her heart and say those words as easily as Ianthe could.
â You donât have to say it back to me,â Ianthe murmured softly.
â I donât?â
â Of course not. Theyâre my feelings, not yours, Feyre. Itâs okay.â She melted to her words and wrapped her arms around Ianthe to pull her closer.
â Okay,â Feyre murmured once her head was laying on Iantheâs chest.
Feyre heard a final whisper from Ianthe before she let sleep take her. â I love you, Feyre.â
â
Ianthe knew she was a goner the moment she had laid her eyes on Feyre. At first, sheâd been drawn to the Otherness that radiated off her skin. Ianthe had been curious about the newly Made woman. As she got closer to her, she began to see the darkness in her eyes, the emptiness in her voice and the apathy in her behaviour. Ianthe watched her worsen every day and tried to ignore it at first, telling herself that the High Lord would know what to do. When things only detoriated, Ianthe intervened, trying to spend more time with her and it seemed to be helping. Except, she found herself growing closer the woman and didnât even realise when sheâd fallen in love.
When Ianthe saw her in her room that day, with that far away look in her eyes, Ianthe had dragged her off to the gardens and the first kiss had been a complete accident. But the ones after that hadnât. The glances, the touches, the moments afterwards had all been on purpose. With Tamlin being so busy, it was easy to sneak around and spend time together but Ianthe couldnât shake the feeling off that Lucien knew. With his continous glances at the both of them and the warning in his eyes, she knew that he at least suspected. She wouldnât put it past him either. The fox hadnât become Tamlinâs emmisary for nothing.
After leaving a sleeping Feyre at dawn and doing her daily rituals, she was walking towards Tamlinâs study to give him an update on the preparation of the wedding when she noticed Feyre heading to the same place. Â Tamlin and Lucien burst out of the doors and Ianthe could feel a deep sense of dread settle in her stomach. She tucked herself behind a half open door as she watched the two talk. Without her kowledge, her hands curled into fists as she watched Feyre and Tamlin quickly rise up into an argument.
Feyre was trying to convince him to take her with him and he kept refusing, making Ianthe barely hold in a growl. They started walking towards the foyer and Ianthe silently followed, making sure not to be seen or heard. She tried not to lash out at Tamlin as Feyre kept on pleading and begging to be taken with Tamlin. She knew how suffocated Feyre had been feeling even with Iantheâs help. Despite all that Ianthe was, she couldnât do anything. And when Feyreâs voice cracked, she could see that Feyre didnât care about her dignity anymore. Â Ianthe wanted to drive her fingers down Tamlinâs face like Amarantha had once done to Lucien. When Tamlinâs claws came out, Ianthe knew Feyre was cracking. The deep sense of dread only grew stronger and it was accomapanied by a rage she didnât think she ever could have reached.
Ianthe watched as Feyre walked after Tamlin only to be stopped by an invisible wall. Lucien tried to calmly explain everything to Feyre but Ianthe knew that she could hardly hear any of it. With her fists by her side and her fury clear on her face, she appeared beside Feyre and then hissed at Lucien, â What does he think heâs doing?â She knew Tamlin could hear her. Let him. He had barricaded the woman he claimed to love. Tamlin didnât even pause in his tracks at her voice. Lucien only looked at her with guilt as he winnowed away and Ianthe turned to Feyre.
Ianthe followed Feyre as she desparately tried to open the door and Ianthe only growled when Feyreâs hand pushed against hardened air.
â Ianthe,â Feyre rasped at her, as she walked backwards to only knock against a wooden table and Ianthe caught her as she stumbled in her steps. Her power was useless.
â I canât-I canât do anything, Feyre,â she said with a helpless voice. Tears were pricking at her eyes and she didnât know what to do.
Feyre seemed to crumble in on herself and all Ianthe could do was hold Feyre close. Suddenly, shadows enclosed them in a dome accompanied with fire, ice and wind. Feyre fell to her knees and Ianthe only joined her, trying to reach out to her through all the tears. She stroked Feyreâs hair and pulled her closer, trying to calm her down. She didnât know what to do. She didnât know what to say. She didnât know how to piece her back together. She didnât know anything. And it was all tearing at her. She wanted to to give Feyre everything she could but how was she supposed to when she just didnât know?
Then, there was a break in the shadows and a shift in the air as a figure appeared right behind Feyre. Ianthe looked up to see The Morrigan looking down at her. Ianthe instantly understood what she was here for. Thank the Cauldron. She looked down at Feyre in her arms and gently picked her up and held her out for the Third.
â Please take good care of her. Make sure sheâs safe,â Ianthe said softly, keeping her eyes on Feyre who had curled up against the woman and Ianthe knew that Feyre was too far away to do anything. Ianthe felt a hand on her shoulder and she looked up to look at Morrigan.
â Weâll take care of her. I promise,â she said with such conviction that Ianthe believed it. She swallowed back her tears and nodded.
â Thank you.â Ianthe responded and she looked down at Feyre and her breath caught when she looked back. â Iâm sorry,â she said instantly. Feyre didnât even listen to her words.
â Come with me. Please,â Feyre said urgently, looking up at her with pleading eyes and Ianthe almost gave in. She took a step forward to cup Feyreâs face in her hands kissed her eyelids, nose and her mouth softly. She didnât care if the High Lordâs cousin saw her.
â I canât, Feyre,â she said, her voice breaking and her tears streaming. She didnât want to leave her. She shouldnât leave her. And yet, she must. â I have to make sure Tamlin doesnât do anything drastic. Just stay there, love.â
â No,â Feyre whispered at her with fearful eyes. â Donât leave me, Ianthe. I canât lose you.â A tear rolled down Feyreâs face and Ianthe immediately wiped it away, trying to ignore the ache in her heart.
â We have to leave,â Morrigan said urgently and yet, Ianthe could hear some reluctance in her voice.
â Goodbye, Feyre,â Ianthe whispered for a final time and kissed Feyre for the last time, trying to convey all that she could in that brief second.
The last thing Ianthe saw before they winnowed away was Feyreâs face which wore shattered expression, mirroring her own.
As the shadows unraveled around her, Iantheâs hood was straightened and her circlet was adjusted. Â Now, she had to be the High Priestess and do what was expected of her. She wiped away the hidden tears as she marched throughout the manor, giving out orders to inform the disappearance of Feyre to the High Lord of Spring Court immediately. She would stay strong in the comfort that Feyre was safe under the protection of the Night Court. So Ianthe locked the storm of emotions deep inside of her, knowing that she would mourn later in the deep silence of the night.

đ How did they both realize âoh wait, this is actually loveâ?
water wraith was smitten immediately when feyre gave her the jewellery. people are usually stingy with wraiths bc of the insatiability thing and yeah, it's true and sure, she does take a mile when offered an inch but it's still nice to be offered that inch, you know. anyway water wraith was so charmed that she decided to not just take the inch of jewellery but rather the mile of feyre's whole being as hers.
feyre took a bit longer, she first got abducted by and underwater married to the water wraith but she grew to appreciate her. feyre has her own brand of insatiability but in the emotional sense, she craves constant attention and validation and the water wraith is absolutely willing and able to always shower feyre with support and praise and doesn't judge this endless well of need, she gets it. so they're happy underwater wives living their underwater lives
đ§ď¸ Who steals whose hoodies when it rains?
(I'm making this about clothes in general bc inathe would not be caught dead wearing an actual hoodie)
those two do not have the boundaries of separate wardrobes. they are similar enough in figure that all their clothes are joint property. however, it is largely ianthe who buys the outfits and while feyre hates being given clothes or dressed up outright she loves rummaging through ianthe's stuff. feyre has been known to actively steal the outfit ianthe laid out for herself, but it's all fine, they double, triple and quadruple bluff each other. (plus they are either twinning or their outfits clash violently. no inbetween)
đŤ Ten years from now, what random Tuesday are they spending together?
both stryga and feyre are creatures of habit and thrive on repetition. so in ten years feyre will still be with rhysand and tell him she has some business to do and go roleplay the ring heist (sexy version) with stryga. rhys was invited once but as his role is sitting in a tree while the good stuff is happening in the hut he has refused to participate since. the roleplay is evolving very slowly due to their immortality so it's still quite similar to the original event after ten years. but in four centuries it will be barely recognisable, it'll feature a knife throwing game and loom bondage by then
