I will not dig around in my peat pots with a toothpick to see if the eggplant seeds are doing anything. Won’t. Won’t. *eyes toothpick box*
I started some seeds indoors in peat pots 12 days ago. The cucumbers came up fine. But.
Ancient 2012 tomato seeds (American Seed Co.) I sowed for the helluvit: *two of four seeds sprouting*
New eggplant seeds (Ferry-Morse): *nothing, even though I put two seeds in each pot*
...
*digs in two pots with toothpick*
New eggplant seeds: *not even baby roots*
Did Ferry-Morse harvest seed too soon in the rush to restock after everything sold out? I don’t know how that works. The seeds look fine...
I’ll get another set of pots started and try old seed as a control. If the new ones don’t sprout I’mma contact the seller. I hope the other seeds I got from them sprout. I put the cowpeas, carrots, and a separate round of cucumbers directly in the ground, so we shall see in a week or so.
hallelujah
I HAS ONE ITTYBITTY EGGYPLANT BABY
FINALLY
MAMA IS PROUD
It’s from the newer packet of seed that I suspected of being 0% viable after a round of failure so we shall see if any more sprout. Cross them fingers for me.
eggplant patience over, press START to continue
I waited a couple more days. Took a toothpick and dug up all of my teeny-tiny peat pots like a grave-robber. Not a single eggplant seed had even a hair of a root.
Okay.
ok ok ok
So I went overboard and took the rest of that new packet and spite-planted every single remaining seed, like 5-8 to a pot.
Then I drew on my hoarding resources and dragged out a packet from 2012. Also Ferry-Morse, but I know this packet at least started out viable. So I prepped another eight peat pots and spite-planted very single remaining one of those. The ancient tomatoes worked, so maybe?
I will be writing to Ferry-Morse about this. But I’m waiting to see if the other seeds I purchased do anything. I just planted those the other day.
...Watch all of the eggplant seeds sprout to spite me by giving me WAY TOO MANY EGGPLANT PLANTS. So the seed deities can laugh at my tiny existential crisis because even though I have been gardening for like 33 years, I still feel like I’m guilty of murder for thinning my seedlings.
I picked up a couple more packets of different colored sunflowers when I got the replacement bluebonnet seeds, and grabbed this one because it’s pretty and looks different to the other types I have
But then I actually read it and uh
UH
One of these things is not like the other
I’m growing about five million kinds of flowers including multiple types of sunflowers and a number of native species, so if one doesn’t have pollen it’s not that big a deal, but now that I’m aware of this I wouldn’t have bought this variety. I guess pollenless sunflowers are popular as cut flowers but, yeah. They probably shouldn’t be advertising that as “loved by pollinators”

Below are some more sunflowers 🌻 that were planted the night before last. Ferry-Morse brand Mixed Colors blend. I haven’t planted the whole seed pack yet only the nine newspaper pots shown in pictures. These will be the shortest variety I have. According to the seed pack. Spacing will be 18 inches. I will plant the remaining seeds in the packet. Peace and Love xoxox Rachel Sue

Sunflowers 🌻🌻 Yes, plural!
Two nights ago I did plant a lot of sunflowers. 🙂 in the below pictures you will see in two trays 22 newspaper pots. Each contains one or two seeds. All seeds were planted from seed packet shown. Ferry-Morse brand Mixed Colors blend. They will grow up to 5 feet and need to be spaced 6 inches apart based on the back of the seed packet. These aren’t the only sunflowers I planted. 😙 Peace and Love…
