Giorno Diciotto: Firenze Where the couture is beyond// Lady Gaga . . . Today was very eventful! One of my classrooms was changed to a room in a museum that commemorates Italian Director Franco Zeffirelli (film majors, eat your hearts out). We learned all about traditional clothing in Ancient Greece and Rome, and even had practice preparing a historically accurate Peplo- a tiered garment made out of one piece of fabric, worn by Ancient Greek women- shown in my last picture feat. my very fashionable professor. I’m definitely ready for the next “toga party” I’m invited to, and will absolutely deliver fashion citations to historically inaccurate frat bros. After that, I was privileged to visit the Salvatore Ferragamo museum. The exhibit detailed Ferragamo’s return to Italy in 1927 after working in Hollywood for a number of years. His first advertisement was published in 1928 and mentioned Baltimore! It was incredibly amusing to think that such a famous designer frequented a place that I am familiar with. The big trunk showcases some of his prototypes he brought back to Italy, and the blue shoes are made out of a unique leather. It’s actually fish scales! It was so neat to see such old articles of clothing and to learn about such an amazing designer’s life. If you’re ever in Florence, this is a must see for anyone who enjoys art and fashion! #italy #florence #firenze #salvatoreferragamo #ferragamo #ferragamomuseum #designer #italiandesign #fashiondesign #fashiondesigner #fashion student #historicalcostume #greek #togas #peplo (at Salvatore Ferragamo Museum)
