TO MY FELLOW UNIONIZED/UNION-MEMBER TUMBLR USERS!!!
as you may have heard, there's a general strike being planned nationwide in response to ICE's totalitarian crackdown in Minnesota and the Twin Cities. It is planned to take place on January 30th, 2026.
During this shutdown it is asked that you do not go to school, work, or make any economic purchases. The general strike in Minnesota on the 23rd was one of the largest in decades, and the literal next day, ICE killed another person exercising their legal right to film ICE agents at work. They are trying to scare us into silence and complacency. The Trump administration believes that if they remove Bovino and Noem, they can avoid responsibility and swipe their human rights violations under the rug.
There is an upcoming budget bill being voted on soon that will provide more funding to ICE, and it's incredibly important we try to keep the momentum and back Minnesotans in their fight against fascism!
I understand that not everyone is able to participate in a strike due to economic reasons, work barriers, etc., but if you're in a union, I'm asking you kindly (and fervently) to please, please email your union presidents and ask for them to back your union members in participating in the strike, and have other members do the same!!! The more people who reach out and participate, the more impact we'll have.
We've all seen the deaths of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti, but at least 7 people have been killed by ICE in the year 2026 alone, and we're not even a full month in. This is for Good and Pretti, but also for Keith Porter, Geraldo Lunas Campos, Victor Manuel Diaz, Parady La, Luis Beltran Yanez-Cruz, and Herber Sanches Dominguez. It's for the some 1.8k people who went missing from Alligator Alcatraz. The thousands of people who have been sexually assaulted since ICE's creation in 2003. The people deported to concentration camps and inhumane prisons with no due process. The women and children in color-coded jackets in screaming, "Libertad!" (let us go). The countless victims of their genocide*
*(and it is a genocide; it's ethnic cleansing---why do you think ICE agents are reportedly crushing the testicles of men in their prisons? Forced sterilization is a major tactic of genocides) Part of the reason that the U.S. funds Israel so much because Gaza is their testing ground.
PLEASE reach out to your representatives, and participate in the strike through whatever means you can.
Everything that we have won and that has become commonplace, from the 40 hour work week to suitable work conditions to higher pay, had to be fought for. Follow in their footsteps and fight back!!!
Remember: if this is what they're doing to people on the streets, imagine what they must be doing to people behind the walls of their facilities.
