everything feels impossible and all change feels incremental because we're living in the thick of it, but i reject the notion that there's actually nothing to be done. sunk cost fallacy when it comes to our world, our lives, and our planet isn't going to help anyone.
as for hope, hope is good for everything. people don't fight without hope. people don't rebel without hope. people don't live without hope. to steal the words of andor, rebellions are built on hope. the only way to 100% ensure that things will never get better is if you decide it's not worth trying. that's what the fascists and the bigots and the elites want us to do.
trust me, i understand that it feels inescapable, but no climate initiative is ever too late. no social program is ever too late. no positive change is ever too late. too late for the people who we lost, but too late in general? never.
for our entire history, people have lived amidst horrible circumstances, and we've made progress, made changes, and made a difference in spite of that. even if your activism only helps one person, that's better than giving up.
we're not done, because we're still here.
how can i avoid the doomerism mentality and fight towards substantial environmental and social change?? usually i'm pretty good at remaining optimistic, but the lack of any human empathy from politicians (and much of my own family) and the terrible summer summer heat making breathing feel difficult (and knowing that it's nothing compared to what's happening in places like india) is really weighing me down rn
i just want to help, and to live on an inhabitable planet with nature, art, people, and kindness and community. and more and more each day, i feel like i don't know how to achieve that
