SOMEbody has me thinking about Horrortale!Overgrowth Papyrus aka Fern now so here’s some fluff- (Was about to say headcanons, but he’s from my own au so..? Idk)
-He’s awful at setting up surprises, but he still loves to try! Unfortunately, he’ll get too excited/nervous and his magic gives him away
-When he’s crushing, he does the “they love me, they love me not-“ thing ALL the time. He’s got plenty of flowers to pick petals from, after all. Fern is always really happy when the last petal is “they love me” because the flowers are from him, so surely they must be right!
-Someone could kiss him on the mouth and later he’ll still be thinking it was an accident or that he’s reading too much into it somehow
-You’d probably have to grab him by the face, look him in the eyes, and tell him you want to date, otherwise he’ll spend every hangout trying to manage his magic, only to absolutely burst into flowers later from how happy he is to spend time around the person he likes.
-Fern will write very—excuse the pun—flowery poems when he’s in love. He might not share them, but he’ll fill pages and pages with all sorts of random things he loves about them. Like, laying on his bed kicking his feet while he writes in his diary
-If he’s getting his partner flowers, he’ll often buy them flowers. Sure, he could use his own, but at the end of the day, fishing an entire bouquet out of his ribcage is honestly kind of weird to him.
-If someone buys him flowers, he’ll add his favorite to his flora. Plants that aren’t from his own magic won’t last forever, but even if they’re cut, they’ll stay alive for up to a few months!
-Fern is very passive in romance, tending to match his partner’s energy. He’s the type to sit around checking his phone every five minutes hoping for a text.
-He likes to carry things for his partner, even if it’s something light. He’ll carry groceries bags, luggage, etc. without being asked.
-Fern isn’t able to have pets (too much risk of his plants making them sick) but he LOVES pet shop dates to just go look at puppies through the glass.
-The first time Fern has a friend over to visit after he and his brother have a home on the surface, he buys like 30 air purifiers in an attempt to keep them from getting sick, either from his pollen or from Spore’s, well, spores. Probably not the best use of his money, but you know he cares!
-Winter is his worst season in regard to his health, which tends to manifest in major fatigue. He’ll still try to invite his partner or crush over to spend time together, but he’ll be visibly fighting sleep. Fern will also apologize profusely if he actually falls asleep, even though it’s not his fault.
-At the beginning of a relationship, Fern steadfastly refuses close contact. He doesn’t want his partner breathing in any poison from him! They’ll gradually start to build a tolerance to his magic if they’re around him enough, but he doesn’t know that yet! This results in a lot of hand holding during which Fern is extremely obvious about wanting to hug or cuddle, even though he insists it’s no big deal
