SO shady and the secrecy is even worse for hawke in DA2. in DAO you’re ~in on it and even then you don’t know everything. aside from wanting power, maybe the GW think revealing the “absorb taint/die killing archdemon” thing puts people off even more?
even in origins, what was Duncan thinking?? Alistair was a Grey Warden for 6 months, Duncan was p sure a Blight was coming, and he never told him the sacrifice required to kill the Archdemon?! seriously. he knew the battle could go awry and didn't prepare his two new recruits I mean that's bad leadership to me.
it's worse for the Warden precisely because they are in on it without even having a choice, they can't say no, they have no idea what they stumbled into. idk maybe it's because I feel really attached to the Cousland origin but I feel like Duncan abused people's trust and especially Bryce by "saving" their child only to throw them into the bear pit and hope for the best
also the Wardens recruit desperate people I'm p sure even if they were upfront about it people would still want to join because it might be the promise of a better life and like Archdemons don't run around the streets it's only a pb during the Blight plus it's usually Wardens near their Calling taking the blow so that's not really a pb to me?
what the Wardens did in DA2 with Corypheus, the way they blackmailed Hawke's father, this all adds up to show how freaking rotten this organization is.
