“Oh, it’s you.” Even Priscilla wasn’t sure if it was disappointment or relief that she said it with. On the one hand, this guy was Hilda’s friend? Priscilla couldn’t exactly see herself and the customer from the butcher shop having movie nights and gossiping, so that was a bummer. Apart from selling the show of their marriage, this night was supposed to be about making friends so she wouldn’t go stir crazy until she could fake her death. On the other hand, it took some of the pressure off of the night for her. She’d already met this person, so that was one less first impression to nail.
Unfortunately, second impressions could be even harder. Especially after making quite the liar of herself. “I never found the cool people, in case you were wondering,” she tested the waters with a little joke. Priscilla could not imagine this man thinking about her or their conversation even once after leaving the butcher shop. Which instantly annoyed her, actually. But not for any sane reasons. “And I also didn’t personally handle any of the assorted trayed meats, so don’t worry about that.” ‘Trayed’ was a stretch. So was assorted. There was some corner shop prosciutto on a plate. She thought about the parties at the Velari estate, decadent and indulgent. Priscilla put a hand to her lower back, which ached.
