#ToneHenge™ is whole again! I had to slip the '61 #LesPaul Junior into the shot to make it qualify for #GibSunday, but this post is all about my (October) 1963 #6G2 Tuxedo #Fender #Princeton. . I just got the #amp back from servicing by my trusty tech @marshalllespaulfan who rebiased the output tubes because it was running super hot and just killing them. It was pumping out something crazy like 19 watts when it's supposed to be 12! Now the amp sounds just as good but with two notable improvements: the tubes aren't going to fry by the middle of next week, and the tremolo actually works again! He also resoldered the original footswitch (pictured) which had a broken connection, and cleaned up the mess a prior tech made in the chasis by silicone-ing down a bunch of the components (presumably to stop them from vibrating at high volumes? Whatevs: It was a godawful mess in there!). . So happy to have it back in tip top shape! The 1963 #Fender "Tuxedo" Princeton is currently in the capable hands of my #amp tech @marshalllespaulfan to fix the malfunctioning tremolo, resolder a detached footswitch wire and just give it a general checkup. Hopefully he'll make some recommendations for tonal improvements too...not that you can improve the sound of this amp much! . Purchased from @theguitarshopca a few years ago for a real bargain price, I won't mind fiddling with this one to improve it because it's already a "player", with a changed speaker and God only knows what other internal components. But at least the exterior (faceplate, cab, tube chart, tolex, and grill cloth) is original and it is an incredible sounding amp so I don't mind at all that it's not 100% stock. . One of the coolest things about bringing your amp to @marshalllespaulfan for servicing is that he gives you a full written report on your amp, which includes a list of what parts are original and what parts have been replaced. When I bought the amp the shop told me it was formerly owned by a gigging musician that kept the internals up to date for reliability on the road...so I expect that the stuff that wears out (like the capacitors) have been already changed. I'll be curious to find out about the transformers as well. Yes I know I could have checked that myself very easily...and I probably did when I first bought it...but my memory is spotty at best in my old age! 😆 .
