I won't grow up!
It’s scary how quickly time goes. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always loved being a kid. LOVED it. I know it’s hard to believe, because we always hear about kids counting down the days until adulthood, when they can do all the things they have never been allowed to do before. It is only after the fact, when the children are fully grown and out of the house, that they start to look back on their lives and wish that they hadn’t been in such a rush to grow up. That’s never been the case with me.
Growing up, I was not only the baby of the family, but also the only girl- And let me tell you, it was a PRIME position to be in! In the eyes of my family, I was always “just a little girl” who “didn’t know any better,” and I used it to my advantage. No matter what I did to my older brother, it never made a difference. I got away with MURDER!
Now that I’m approaching 19 years old (my last year as a teenager), it’s beginning to dawn on me that I can’t keep going about my life playing the whole “little kid” card. It’s about equally as exciting as it is terrifying. But after speaking to my mother, I’ve realized something:Â
Physically growing older doesn’t have to affect how I feel internally. Being a legal adult has yet to stop me from watching Disney movies and quoting Spongebob every chance I get. And I can’t imagine any age getting in the way of that in the future. Just call me the female Peter Pan. So here’s to getting older, everybody, but never truly growing up!!
