1. Who is your favourite historical person?

another one of my absolute favorites is st. hildegard of bingen, a chronically ill, somewhat controlling lesbian who wrote to the mother-freakin POPE to keep her much younger girlfriend, richardis of stade, from leaving her abbey. didn’t manage to do it tho. richardis left and then died shortly thereafter. actual words hildegard wrote in a letter to richardis, quoted in “hildegard of bingen and richardis of stade: discourses of desire” by susan schibanoff (i can send the pdf to anyone who wants it btw):

i so loved the nobility of your character, your wisdom, your chastity, your spirit, and indeed every aspect of your life that many people have said to me: what are you doing?

7. Historical dressing, uniform or costume?

i like those sandals of tutankhamun’s that have images of his enemies on them, so that he’s always stepping on the opposition.
