On the true opening day for nearly all of baseball, Hanley Ramirez did Jason Heyward one better. After seeing Heyward’s big game for his new team in the opener Sunday night, Hanley came out swinging and put up two homers while driving in 5 for a memorable first day with Boston. The last player to reach those marks on opening day for his new squad was Richie Sexson in 2005 for the Mariners. Meanwhile, he and Dustin Pedroia became the first teammates to each hit two homers on opening day since the dynamic duo of Tony Clark and Felipe Lopez for the 2009 Diamondbacks, a pair who went on to hit 9 total homers the rest of the season. Something tells me the Boston’s stars will make it past that number.
