thinking about feligrid’s angst potential again || twitter
Its Ingrid rarepair week in twitter. Day 1 prompt is childhood
On the whole felixX Ingrid pairing its funny since Ingrid was originally engaged to his brother ( and in asoiaf. Ingrid would have been engaged to Felix once Glenn died. And ( I have to be honest my favorite route is crimson flower though I am sad that most of the endings for Felix are sad in the other routes the only ones that seem a bit nice or Annette and Ingrid ones
Honestly that’s one of the things I love most about it. I know a lot of people think that Ingrid wasn’t necessarily in love with Glenn--and I’ll admit she was quite young when they were betrothed--but for me it’s more... satisfying, I guess, in a character arc and narrative sense, if she was. Because first of all, in the words of Zelda Spellman, “When you’re 16, it’s always true love.” And secondly, I just... I love the arc of healing she goes through--and, in her potential marriage to Felix, the idea that they both suffered an extreme loss. Ingrid didn’t just lose a boy she didn’t mind marrying, she lost someone she loved, and was picturing spending the rest of her life with. And Felix lost his brother.
And I think, for a very long time, Ingrid saw Glenn’s shadow in Felix’s face--and Felix kept seeing the shadow Glenn’s future, of which he was so cruelly robbed, in hers.
They both handled their traumas differently. Felix devoted himself entirely to training and attempted to repress his emotions entirely. Ingrid devoted herself to her friends, and her kingdom. Her greatest dream was to become a knight and serve her people. But she also wanted to care for her friends--the other Blue Lions, but especially Felix and Sylvain. And with Felix there was an added level of pain--he looked so like Glenn, at times she even saw a smile that reminded her so much of him that it hurt. There were times when she could barely stand being on the same team.
But any time there was danger on the battlefield, somehow Ingrid always found herself at Felix’s side.
At first, Felix thought he was just honoring his brother’s final wishes--a letter, which he didn’t receive until after his brother was dead--that he keep Ingrid safe, whatever else happened. But slowly, he began to realize that he only felt... whole, and at peace, when she was around. And for Ingrid, that pain slowly morphed into something infinitely sweeter--closure.
.....sorry I took this ask and kind of ran with it into meta-land, but the TL;DR is that I just... so deeply love the whole ‘you were in love with my brother, and we both lost him, and as we help each other heal from the pain of that loss, we slowly fall in love’. That’s what I get from Ingrid and Felix’s marriage, and I love it so damn much.
(Incidentally, I do wish Felix had a broader range of happy endings. I think I just got lucky and settled on a pairing that fits him so well that I can imagine it ending in happiness, even if the card is bittersweet.)
