The most heart wrenching and life changing event while we were in Guatemala had to be the landfill. We had the opportunity to stop by on one of the three day a week when they provide the children and adults who live in the landfill food and drink. We were able to help feed some of the people and then take a walk through the field where we saw children walking over hot coals and through smoke as they headed back into the landfill to collect pieces of glass and other materials to sell for up to .25 cents a day. Seeing their faces and knowing their circumstances as we served them rice, tortillas and stew brought a whole new level of realization and appreciation for the life we life and the blessings we have. If they are able to smile and laugh while living in those conditions, you can definitely do the same as you go through your week and the stresses you endure!
